50K TRAINING WITHOUT TONS OF MILES? Building A Fitness Base The Smart Way

- When you think of running an ultra marathon (anything over a marathon) it probably brings to mind visions of long runs, hours upon hours of training and not much of a social life. Yet, that's not necessarily the way that Ben Light, an elite ultra endurance coach has me training for my 50k.
While everyone's training is vastly different (and based on their current fitness level and lifestyle demands), one misconception is that you cannot train for ultra endurance events while having a family, career and other demanding responsibilities in your life.
In this video, I explain why Ben has me focused on hours (not miles), and some of the tips I find helpful (like how to run outside when it's cold) during the "build consistency" part of my training program.
IMPORTANT: I am sharing my training plan, not so you can blindly follow it, but so you can see that a busy single mom and entrepreneur can train for ultras while having a family, running businesses and getting some down time.
If you are interested in learning more about a custom training plan for triathlon, running, ultra running and/or strength training, I encourage you to reach out to Ben Light, who is an amazing and knowledgeable expert in the field of fitness.

As always, I hope you enjoy this video and it proves that anyone can train for an ultra!
Stay tuned for my upcoming videos where I go into way more depth on specific running workouts, warm up examples and share my feedback on completing the first 3 weeks of training!
ROCK ON!

Good luck with your training. I am looking forward to seeing your progress. 💪
Thank you so much! 🙏
Good job getting out on chilly days!
Thank you! I still don’t like it haha but I have to do it 😆

I wonder what a famous beatboxer would do with 50k
How do you determine your “base” or zone 2 pace/effort?
I personally use the MAF (Mafetone) method. The equation is 180 minus your age. So if you are 45 years old, you want to keep your hr as close to 135 bpm as possible. I wear a Garmin watch, which automatically adjusts my zones as I get “fitter.”
I don’t focus on pace at all right now. It’s all done on heart rate :)
I hope that helps!
