    This is one of the best places to snorkel in Hawaii, and an absolute must do. The free parking lot is likely to be full, even if you come in the morning on a weekday, so bring $5 to park in the lot near the beach.

    One of the best video guides I've seen yet for snorkeling on BI Hawaii. Thanks!

    So helpful, THANK YOU! I watched several videos looking for specifics on parking, facilities and water entry and you gave the best info BY FAR! Well done!

    We loved it there! Had to get in the groove of the movement of water to go out with the waves and come back to the step WITH the waves. So much sea life. Definitely one of the best on the lower West Side of The Big Island.

    Your snorkeling guides have been very helpful and are very well done. Thank you.
    Do you have any recommendations on the best place to rent a mask & fins on Hawai'i?

      I’m so glad you find them helpful! Rentals are hard to come by but there used to be a used water equipment place in Keauhou Shopping Center (unsure if it is still there). You should check with your accommodations too. Often they will have some to use. Have a blast!

    Excellent video! I’ve snorkeled two-steps a couple times and had some trouble getting out of the water, due to the sea urchin being on the steps 😕. I’m coming there again in August by myself, any suggestions? Also, where at two steps do you have the greatest chances of seeing dolphin? Thank you SO much for your help and I look forward to watching more of your videos.

      Most of the small urchins stay in the holes but I still just keep my fins on until completely out of the water. There is also one small step further north that some people use to get in and our too. Dolphins may come by in the mornings and cruise the bay, but be mindful that they have recently made laws about approaching them. Typically, if you float in one place, they will circle past every few minutes when around. They tend to stick to the deeper areas in my experience. No way to predict. Sometimes they are there, sometimes not. Have fun!

      I just returned from BI, and I went to Two Step twice. The best access place is on the right side, there is a small bay at the very right, and the very end of that bay's left side (from the shore) is the most convenient. You can just sit on the rocks and enter or exit without problems.

      Depends on the day but typically around 7 to 8 is best. Definitely not an every day thing either

    How deep is it approximately near the two step?

    • @AdventuresinAviators
      @AdventuresinAviators  Před 2 lety +2

      The coral and fish are extensive around the edges of the bay where it ranges from very shallow to as deep as 40+ feet. In the middle of the bay (where boats hang out) it gets significantly deeper such that you cannot see the bottom.

      @@AdventuresinAviators How shallow is it to the edges for few feet. Asking because I am a beginner snorkeler. Thanks!

    • @willinguyen1
      @willinguyen1 Před 2 lety +1

      @@twilightfresh4459 at two step entrance, it's drops off to 5-6 feet but you shouldn't stand because it's all coral. Bring a noodle or life vest if you are not comfortable. There's also a beach/sandy bottom shallow entry area 100 feet from two step area with snorkeling where you can "get your feet wet" to feel more comfortable.

    where is a good place to eat Breakfast and a good place for lunch near this area?

      The non fancy answer to this is Korner Pocket - but you have to be okay with a non-touristy experience.
