I've sailed both the Garcia 45 and 52. Both in light air (less than 10 knots) and heavier (20 -25)... both sailed extremely well in all conditions and on all points of sail. I come from sailing Wauquiez Centurion 40s, no slouch. I was duly impressed with both boats. The are a bit pricy when you put all the options on. The 45 came in at 725K € and the 52 at 1.0M €... I am planning on going back to France to look closer at the Allures 45.9 and the Boreal. Quick run of their option list puts them both from 550K € to 650K €... depending on your selection. All the boat are very very good sailing vessels and although I was a skeptic to the swing keel, I easily close hauled both Garcias at 35 degrees without even trying hard. Hoping to make my choice early spring!

This would be a great option to the Explorer 45.

Its difficult to choose, I am more inclined to the Garcia 45. These are not production yachts, but are have very specific capabilities for going into high latitudes or be in the tropics. Single rudder vrs dual rudder and helms and a real inside helm position for watches....either way these are not cheap true blue water sailboats. There is no perfect sailboat but, Garcia seems to be (for me) to have my specifications I require and Allure is a supplier. The Garcia 45 with dual rudders and helms is not a dock side condo, its not fast, but it is very stable....rather get there slow and comfortable then fast and beaten to death. its 6 of 1 and half a dozen of the other, just depends on what you choose, or need.

I get where you are coming from. Personally I don't really get the garcia. I mean, it's damn expensive, tall, heavy, complicated and still vulnerable with the twin rudders. To me it seems that boreal does everything the garcia does but they most likely sail better, have a lot less vulnerable rudder design, refleks heater with central heating system, slightly less expensive and a damn sight prettier (albeit in a very utilitarian way). Interior volume is smaller, but meh.. But the allures makes a lot more sense to me. It brings the benefits of lifting keel and alu body to a package that is better suited for the temperate and tropical areas. Not ideal for high latitudes due to the lack of interior steering/ watch keeping position, which translates to more areas to lounge once you find that shallow cove with palm trees. Personally it would be a difficult choice between boreal and allures for me. The former for Horn, the latter for ten years in the tropics...
That said, while I generally like the 45.9, I wonder why they ditched the twin roller the old 45 had? I wonder if the good bow ladder thing is still around too. And yeah, the boat would be a less ugly and probably easier to use in Scandi natural harbors if the bow was more raked with stubbier sprit. Also, still no proper sea bunk in the saloon as far as I can gather?

Every sailboat is not perfect and it depends on application. What is your plan for what your going to do. If your goal is to have a boat at dock side as a condo, pretty much anything will accomplish that. The sea bunk is very well located on the Garcia 45 as its right near the helm and forward to port and a few steps away. Its beautifully designed IMO, but its not a dock side boat and its a heavy boat even with retractable keel. This is an expedition Yacht for long term cruising in higher and lower latitudes and not some weekend cruiser, but a full time cruiser.

Shawn B what about the Amel 50? Is that a good yacht for cruising around the world with my partner

I will be buying an Allures Yacht because I prefer the single level interior layout vs the dual level Deck Saloon layout of the Garcia. It’s going to be a few years though but sometime after the 2028 Olympics. Hopefully the 51.9. If not, then the 45.9
