He did not (sarcastically or otherwise) say “may our friendship remain”,
AND
He did not run away.

Seriously? Is this what you call giving Karan Thapar a taste of his own medicine? Towards the end when she realized that Karan's smooth and calm answers won't let her win, she decided to pull off a comedy skit and tried to imitate him and that too very poorly. Karan didn't loose his temper and kept his calm, and that irritated her. And also, that "you looked like you were gonna cry" argument was completely baseless and ridiculous.
He totally screwed her book once. Totally bashed her in reviewing her back, this is where the retribution is coming from

karan was enjoying the show, not taking matters to heart, being very friendly. he was completely on a lighter note, letting the woman burn her calories. it was height of professionalism. maybe he lost the interview, but he won a lot of hearts.

Madhu Trehan was more vocal and loud doesn't mean she fucked him.... if you look at the interview more closely you will be surprised to find out that Karan actually answered all questions with ease maintained his composure..while towards the end Madhu Trehan lost her patience and did not behave well with him...she even used the word chup and refused to listen to him......Nowhere in the videos she put forward did Karan actually look as if he will cry...though he looked a bit sorry and shocked for offending the other but that is natural for a normal human being....
Irrespective of Karan Thapar's interviewing style (which is certainly debatable), it's puerile of Madhu to bombard him with accusations that seem rather personal. First of all, I would trust a journalist of her stature to bring up points more substantial than whether Karan looks like a crybaby or how narcissistic he is. Further, Madhu's overflowing resentment towards Karan (for whatever reasons) is difficult to ignore right from the beginning to the end. She's trying really hard to prove a point, while failing to camouflage her ego within relevant information and facts. Besides, her point about 'him letting Kapil Sibal go' lacks an insightful argument or a convincing base.
Also, I think Madhu is evidently nervous in this interview, which is causing her to jump from one point to the other without giving Karan the opportunity to finish his answers. And if her excuse is that Karan Thapar would do the same, forgive me, I don't think she really understands the Karan Thapar style of interview. You see, Karan would pick upon an answer and grill the interviewee, ask questions after questions to poke them (and interrupt when he's excited). But he'd be confident enough to scoop out of a certain topic and not let go. Madhu here on the other hand, is only throwing rhetorical questions at him, one after the other, and then letting each one go. The moment Karan starts to make sense, she stops pursuing that question.
Now I have my issues with Karan's impertinence on Devil's Advocate, he has his deficiencies, but I can't understand Madhu's fascination with all the personal attacks. She seems downright frustrated, scared and rude.
Exactly, this is not the place for her attention mongering childish cat fight. This is national TV. A junk interview at best. If you call someoen with the sole intention of not letting him speak, this is ridiculous. I would have appreciated her had she beat him to sane arguments.
Despite her open denial, it was personal vengeance plain and simple. Not, as she claimed, an intention to give Karan Thapar a taste of his own medicine. If Karan had written a flattering review of her book, the interview would have taken an entirely different shape. For sure.
I totally agree with you. It was indeed a very immature interview. The whole point of her finishing the interview within 18 minutes and not letting Karan answer a single answer logically shows how nervous she was. She just wanted to prove her point quickly and finish the show before she is proven wrong.
And what's with "cry baby face", being friends with a shark etc ??? Isnt that petty journalism? I think more than Karan, she needs to growth up first and learn to let anyone answer her first for a meaningful conversation !!

This isn't an interview. This is a teacher scolding a student. Madhu Purie Trehan doesn't give Karan Thapar a chance to speak. She doesn't give him a chance to explain anything. And he didn't look like a cry baby or a bully at all. He just behaved like any interviewer would when is interviewee gets angry. He wasn't begging or pleading, he was just trying to get the interview back on track. I believe that a journalist should bring up points more substantial than whether Thapar looks like a cry baby and then scold him till he accepts it.
Trehan here, on the other hand, is only throwing rhetorical questions and baseless accusations at him and not letting him defend himself. She does not let him speak. It really did look like Trehan bears a personal grudge from a previous experience when questioning him and his calm irritated her. She keeps saying 'shut up' and 'chup' and then declared herself classy. She's not classy !!! The really classy one here in this interview was Thapar.She didn't beat him at this interview. She simply scolded him till he became silent. I'm not sure why people are supporting her. Poor showing, Madhu Purie Trehan, this wasn't just an interview for you, it was quite personal.
It's meant to be personal as they are not discussing agendas or are following up to any news of the day. It was related to his behaviour and character so it will have such questions! And she came up with facts n videos! Regarding her words 'chup', 'shut up'...are all part of the format of the interview and also the rapport they share.. Karan Thapar does all that she did and more importantly without facts and evidences or rather twisting them and putting words in their mouths!

Allow the other person to communicate instead to protracting your elaborate harangue. She keeps accusing him of doing things and doesn't allow him to respond to it in a sufficient manner. She's acting in an abominable capacity and opposed to what you might think, this actually reflects an abominable dimension of journalistic conduct which blemishes it's prestiga altogether
The format is "Can you take it?", with a journalist who turns his interviews into ruthless interrogation. Trehan has done such a good work. Absolutely love her. I have seen his interviews with Jethmalani, he is always peddling for answers he wants.

If you can't take it don't consume formats like "Can you take it?" Or "Roast". Newslaundry has many other formats as well "I agree with ___" and other interviews with same journalists. If you an access Journalist, how did you survive in Great Britain doing shows. Madhu mentioned you used to anchor two shows, eyewitness is all that I remembered and you dappled in print media too. But how did you survive there, perhaps it was a civilized country. You very tightly said that here innocent people from marginalized communities and Dalit community mercilessly. Who will call them civilized doing what fringe elements indulge in. your both the interviews were splendid and stupendous. Congrats.

Obviously Madhu came in with an AGENDA to bully Karan Thapar to give him a lesson! Then Newlaundry wants public money to run! I hope she maintains the class claims!
While most of the people here are appreciating Madhu for some lame "gave him taste of his own venom" reason, I think this was a junk interview, more of a cheap personal revenge than anything else. Also, here this attention mongering woman was being more childish (or baby like) than Karan Thapar unlike what she claims. Whatever is his style, you just wanted to mock at him with senseless arguments. This is not journalism. If you ask question with the sole intention of NOT letting someone speak, just don't call him rather than wasting everybody's time.

Maybe if you couldd just step out of your situational comedies and switch on your tele for some time or maybe just go through his videos(except from some he did with congress biggies), you'd realize. . .he really drops his own judgement on people rather than being an actual journo. . get my point!
Karan Thapr Sir fully professional journalist ,goes straight forward no double standards ,so guests unhappy with him because his straight forwardsness,.his own style of interview. No putting butter at all with any VIP,

It is derogatory to term Karan Thapar as Pakistani ,wise people are able to see and present the other party,country or enemy's point of view ,it speaks of his being educated and awakened citezen Karan Thapar's journalism is worth appreciating
This is pure rivalry and conspired to down rate Karan for his review on her book - 'Prism Me A Lie Tell Me A Truth: Tehelka As Metaphor. Grow up Madhu and get some substance into your interviews.
The lady (whoever she is) degrades herself in this interview.Its a pity she could not hide her grudges to Mr Karan in this interview. How Karan Thapar should conduct his interviews i believe is his prerogative !! and I think he does his job well. full marks for Mr Karan for not losing his cool! I am a regular watcher of his news programme because I feel he does not entertain any fools on his interview and always has complete control over his panel unlike Arnab Goswami!!
