  • Madhu Trehan puts journalists on the hot seat.
Arun Shourie speaks to Madhu Trehan on "being sacrificed" by Ramnath Goenka, fatwas and kaafirs, the Manu Smriti and the need for a Hindu soul with an Islamic body, the culture of appeasement, Modi and the "coup against Vajpayee", BJP not being a particularly religious party and more.

He had issues with Rajnath and he did not like how Jaswant singh was expelled. he is actively involved right now. but more against Cong. than for Modi. he had also stated in another interview that he had informed Manmohan about the impending 2G danger before the papers were signed and that he was extremely distraught by Manmahon's lack of courage to stand up against Raja n co. & had lost all the respect he had for Manmohan
But yeah...he is one of my favs too.

Incredible interview of Arun by Madhu! I absolutely love the way Arun puts his arguments in a systemic way to identify the needs for religions to evolve and how Hinduism is a way of life rather than a diktat of a book to be blindly followed with reason. As a Hindu, I feel proud to have people like Arun and Madhu articulating the beauty of Hinduism very well, particularly when Arun says that nothing in Hinduism is beyond critique and reason and that is how it needs be in all religions.

Probably that become one of the reason why he quit BJP he must have enrolled in the party thinking that they will Channel his energy in right direction but as soon as he realised that now even BJP wants to mimic Islamists he must have felt that he is either being misused or BJP is no longer a place he should be.

I have a request to such people. Let's assume for once that these people are wrong. Why don't you falsify all the arguments presented objectively and with proof.. Madhu ji, thank you for wonderful interviews. I went through interviews of Karan Thapar, Rajdeep, Ravish Kumar, Talveen Singh & now Mr. Shouri.
Out of all these journalists, only Shouri is only & still bigot. Sometimes, ask him following questions -
    1. He got 18000 pages & translators to understand Quran & Fatwa but he didn't get copy of Manusmruti.
    2. He wrote worshipping False god but he didn't examine White & Black Yajurveda & Purushsukta, which was examined by Dr. Ambedkar. He asks us to learn from traditions but did he ever examine Hindu religion & traditions?
    3. Each village in India is nothing less than a Ashwitz camp for OBCs, Dalits, NTs-DNTs. Yes, like Quran or Fatwa, no one read Manusmruti (including Mr. Shouri) but it is followed wholeheartedly.
    4. Bigotry won over erudite Shouri in such gamaut that he critisizes Khap Panchayat but didn't point of 'Father' of Khaps i.e. RSS.
    5. He is trying to paint himself very tolerant & saintly person but he even don't know that Jainism was existed even before Vaidik (Hinduism) Dharma. So Jainism isn't offshoot of Hinduism.
    5. Likewise, Buddhism & Vidikism (i.e. Hinduism) are north & south Pole apart in their scriptures.
One day I would love to meet Mr. Shouri and write an article on him as how to remain bigot through out life! So there's no difference between internet Hindu and Mr. Shouri except way of presenting the points.

So his observation and somewhat critical analysis of quran and hadith makes him a bigot and for this you counter him by asking him to study manusmriti the usal rss gibresh and what not ?It is amusing that you mention Ambedkar maybe you should also read regarding ambedkar obsevation of quran and Islam ..and how does his analysis of quran and hadith compel him to study hindu scriptures ,Many historians have done critical analysis of hindu scriptures so it a pre restique for them to study islamic quran too ? They are not termed bigots rather scholars ..have the capacity and capability to understand not get emotionally charged because here the one is questioning aspects of islamic scriptures

Here is a random thought that i would like to share with you all - Can the Govt gift its citizens some sort of a perk in tax exemption of 25% or 50% during the month of August ( our month of Independence ) If the particular state or country (more tax benefits) has experienced NO communal violence.

In Hinduism each person can be a vehicle to realize the ultimate reality/Truth/Sat (and they were like the numerous rishis/munis/sadhus) while in Abrahamic religions they need a Messiah, Prophet or Son of God. They have to be 'told' what Truth is. So whatever is 'told' is sacred, sacrosanct and cannot be refuted. Ideas/mentalities of people stem from this HUGE difference in how one views religion/spirituality.

Nice take by Arunji on the 2002 riots. Seriously it's easy to point fingers at Modi but when you are at that point when everyone is berserk in riots it's very hard to think rationally and keep yourself organized. Commendable job by Modi though to handle the riots and none such thing in past 13 years. Too bad the Indian Media sells-out too quickly.
Riots happen in a split of a second due to years upon years of suppression towards the Hindus by almost everyone. Things have reached to a boiling point off late which resulted in Babri demolition and what not. Personally I blame Congress and their appeasement policies post-transfer-of-power in 1947. But more importantly us Hindus must also try to keep calm in most situations.
Hopefully he can serve as a minister if the BJP wins the general elections in a few months.

Overall, it was a good discussion. But, when it was about islam, they were not clear enough because of their shortcomings. Can someone say after following 'internet hindus' that hinduism is uncouth, they don't let anyone disagree or having different opinion? No, you can not. In the same way, you can not judge islam after observing some muslims.First, I am not from the 'Hindi belt', the reason I mention will be clear later in my writing. I don't know why many north Indians stuck with the word 'fatwa'. Perhaps that's what the NI muslims use for their advantage /disadvantage in their day-to-day lives, it seems. 'Fatwa' simply means 'Opinion' or ''Advisory Opinion". Its given when a questioner asks for it [Fawa-Advisory Opinion]. So, that depends upon the way he frames the question, if he is clever enough, to have it in his favour. This is the 'Fatwa' thing. To continue, I too read that story and followed it up that AlAzher ulema giving a 'Fatwa' about the 'breast-feeding' of a non-relative male. That is totally ill-constructed or mis-construed, played for the gallery or out of their ignorance about the matter, I think, in their conversation. And, 1 more thing Madhu Trehan brought up was about an athlete giving penance by "feeding 1008 people" is completely wrong, either by that muslim athlete who was about to do that or Madhu reading too much in the internet blogs about 'backward muslims'. If one has to skip a day of fasting due to certain circumstances, he/she has to compensate it in some other time within that 'Islamic year', i.e., 330 days approx. before the next Ramadhan starts. If he/she is not physically/medically unfit to fast, they can compensate by feeding 1 to 40 poor people as per their capacity. More interesting is when Madhu asking why didn't MF Hussain want to draw Allah or Mohammed? That is where, I don't know why or how, most of the genius are get flummoxed. Where will one can show a authentic picture of Allah or Mohammed? If Madhu had one, she could have sent it to the painter and asked him to draw them 'naked' and he would've done it - perhaps for a sum or for art. So, where is the question of drawing someone naked arises when there is no 'pratima' -i.e., “natasyapratimaasti“. Funny geniuses.

Most hindus do not understand true "hinduism" or "sanatana dharma" as it is better called.
When manusmriti talks of duties of varnas, it is talking from a different point of view. In ancient India, a brahmin was not just born a brahmin. He became one by long years of scriptural studies, self-restraint. He is an educator, a teacher, a performer of "vedic ceremonies". The society looked upon him with awe and respect much like a society would look upon a nobel laureate today (in India, the standards have fallen so low that the place has been usurped by bollywood actors and cricketers).
Ancient India was great because the best among these brahmins from time to time gave instructions known as "Smritis" or "Sutras" that told the society how to conduct itself. These varied with time and place. These were kind of guide to the rulers of that time. Manusmriti was one such. It was not binding on the king but latter took such instructions seriously. There was a check and balance with knowledge of the brahmin keeping the 'power" of the Kshatriya (the warrior class) in check. But manusmriti is also severe on transgressions of a brahmin much more than by other castes.
When Manu says a shudra who hears Vedas should have molten was poured into his ears (not sure it is true as I can't find the original quote in sanskrit), he would have meant that true knowledge should not fall into false hands. This is like Osama bin laden having knowledge to make nuclear weapons. Today we worry about such weapons falling into hands of Taliban. Ancient Rishis took care to not only preserve but protect such knowledge.
Vedas are not understood by Indians of today as they have no knowledge of Vedic sanskrit (which is even different from classic sanskrit which some of us may understand). It is deeply symbolic with lot of mysticism, mantras etc that do not make sense today but did in ancient times.

I watched this when it came out. I’m watching it again after all this time. It’s too bad Shourie ji couldn’t fit into Modi’s BJP. Both are poorer for it.

One must avoid these "Lutyens' Delhi" geniuses. Or even better shifting our nation's capital to some other place. They are enjoying the total wealth comes from across the country. Whoever settled in NCR, finds a way to be near the 'corridors of power' to stuck and suck on.
