    Welcome back to Casually Competitive MTG! We are a group of friends who enjoy playing fast paced semi competitive EDH games. In today’s game we have a matchup between Blue Pod, a Thrasios, Triton Hero and Bruse Tarl, Boorish Herder stax and hatebear based control deck; Urza, High Lord Artificer, a mono blue artifact combo deck; Najeela, the Blade-Bossom, a combo deck whose main goal is to swing.. a lot; and Yisan, the Wanderer Bard, a mono green combo deck that looks to activate Yisan multiple times per turn to assemble a win. I really like the card counter. I have a solution but its a chore to do: you know the amount at the beginning of the game. so whenever someone uses a card that means -1 card and whenever they draw a card +1 card. Or you get a card camera.

    Thanks for the video, I love your guys' content! Quick critique though: have you guys considered putting the commander damage trackers above/below the name/commander bars instead of above/below the life trackers? It seems that almost no one has cards vertically adjacent to the name/commander bars (except for Nate here and his lands could be pushed slightly up to match everyone else's) while the commander damage trackers cover the graveyard which always has cards in it for everyone. It's nothing experience ruining either way, just a small nitpick.

  • @Isolanporzellator
    @Isolanporzellator Před 4 lety +6

    I've probably seen 10+ games with Yisan now and I've never once seen this deck win (or even do much of relevance). I just can't help but wonder why it's as popular as it is, given all the Setup you need to actually go off (tons of mana/dorks and untap with Yisan in play). In your opinion, what makes Yisan good and worth running above other options (most notably Chulane, as noted below)?
    Looking at the decklist I noticed it's very similar to what I run with Chulane (Just a ton of mana dorks + Aluren, Sabertooth and Cloudstone Curio to go infinite) and I honestly much prefer Chulane for a deck that tries to win via this route. Reasons include that you don't actually need to untap with it or give it haste, you get access to white and blue which is very valuable, and you have insane card draw with Chulane which easily gives you as much consistency as Yisan tutor chains in most games.

    • @Sliver_Boi
      @Sliver_Boi Před 4 lety +8

      Mainly I have yisan because I used to have a casual freyalise elffball deck and that morphed into this. I like him cause the mono colored aspect, while yes it does limit what I can have, is fun cause most people try to shy away from mono colored decks so I get to be different. Yisan can also win increadibly fast if things like turn 2 spy glasses and such aren't played. If I can get yisan down turn 1-2 it is very reasonable that I can win within the next couple turns. And with yisan you have some built in protection because all the pieces you tutor for with him are put straight into the battlefield and not cast so you get around them getting countered on the way down. So to me it still feels fast enough to go toe to toe with decks like chulane for this type of win con.

    I think that it should be clarified that the mana that was used to activate Urza was from his mana ability. It's quite possible to see the Mana Vault being tapped for mana, then look at Ouphe which is still on the board at that point, and be very confused as to what's going on.
    Already mentioned is that Arcane Denial should still have resolved even through Veil of Summer.
    One last thing - why enchant Najeela with Pattern of Rebirth? Going to the command zone is a replacement effect, so that the next time she would have been removed she actually wouldn't have died, and wouldn't have triggered the Pattern. If I were the player I'd probably enchant the Mindblade Render, because it's a great card and a threat on its own in a way.

  • @DarkEinherjar
    @DarkEinherjar Před 4 lety

    Autumn's Veil doesn't make counterspells "fizzle" - the part of the spell's effect that says "counter target spell" is ignored, but everything else will have its usual effects, as the spell's target is still legal. I know it sounds confusing, but here's the thing: "can't be countered" is different than "can't be targeted". In the same way, if you target a creature with Polymorph and the targeted creature becomes indestructible in response (or if it was already indestructible to begin with), Polymorph will still resolve as normal: the creature won't be destroyed, but its controller will still reveal cards from the library, put a new creature on the battlefield if one is revealed, and shuffle.
    Therefore, Arcane Denial failed to counter the spell, but the card drawing in the next upkeep should've still happened for both Nate and Adam.

    On the positive, the "cards in hand" counter is really neat.
    On the negative, this is a pet peeve but you keep saying "in response to" when moving through phrases. You respond to something going on the stack, but you can't "respond to blockers" or "respond to going to the draw phase"

    • @CasuallyCompetitiveMTG
      @CasuallyCompetitiveMTG  Před 4 lety +1

      'In response to' as a phrase is used when the non-active player gets priority. When changing phases, each non active player gets priority, and phrasing it like this seemed to be the way that would make the most sense and be the most clear.

      Collector Ouphe prevents the ability from being activated. I kinda question his decision to tutor for Spellskite since he knew he couldn't activate it, both Winter Orb and Torpor Orb would have blocked the win, then again hindsight is always 20/20. Probably just looked for anything that could block stuff to prevent Najeela from winning.
