  • This video briefly goes over the process of replacing the left and right rear flexible brake lines on this 1970 W108 Mercedes-Benz. The design of these lines is quite simple, with straight fittings on each end. The main thing to keep in mind for this job is to use the proper flare nut wrenches to avoid rounding the heads off the lines. Also for stubborn lines, lots of cleaning and penetrating oil should be used to avoid damage.
To protect the threads on the brake lines, I coat them with a product that sprays on as a lubricant, but dries into a semisolid wax-like substance to offer protection against corrosion. Also, the brake linings (pads) are replaced. I chose EBC's Green Stuff as these pads have a break-in coating that will clean the rotor and help the pads bed in. These are the same kind of pads that were on the car when the stuck piston issue occurred, but were ruined from the heat. Another good quality brand of brake pad to use is Pagid, Mintex, or Textar. These pads, along with the EBC pads, are ECE R90 certified. I try to use only ECE R90 brake pads on any vehicle, whether European or not. (4/2/2013)

    Question
So when installing the brake hose line, one end of the brake lines is turned and tightened while the other end is disconnected, right?
Then, the other end of the brake hose line is positioned against the spring clip where it meets the hard line with threads.
At this point, the brake hose itself is longer capable of being turned so the threads from the hard line are turned and tightened against the hose.
