  • I came across this tired and crusty wheeled battery charger by the side of the road the other day. I’ve always wanted one of these, so I decided to pick it up. Apparently, all that’s wrong with it (besides needing a cleaning) is that the charge selector switch appears to have a bad section. I will try to source this part and repair this charger for future use. (11/22/2015)

Great catch. You grabbed it just before the next guy with a multimeter at home would have slammed on his brakes and snagged it. Now please don't leave us hanging out to dry out here. Schmacher may be a good source for parts maybe even (I'd be shocked) the decals for switch functions. But there are so many types of decals and fonts to choose to make it look new after some paint. Please keep us updated every step of the way. Thanks.

+Bob Stinson As soon as I can source the parts, I plan to make another follow-up video showing its repair.

I figured it needed to have the Connections Cleaned up.
Great find ! I like Finding stuff free too !

You should do an update on the f250 and a updated maintence on it.

Made in USA was great to see! I wonder if the transformer was wound here and if the diodes were made here that would be amazing

    Single man are you? ;-p
I have that same charger. i bought it at Costco roughly 20 years ago. I could be wrong about this so don't take it as gospel, but I believe that model was a Costco exclusive. Schumacher made an identical unit rated at only 200 starting amps.
Do you have a follow-up video on the unit?

I would bet you are single, but thanks for the video. Mine quit working today and assuming the diodes/rectifier burnt out after using it 7 hours.

I have one identical to the one shows in the video ,however the wiring to the control selection switch does not match with what is being shown .facing the rear of switch from left to right follows :2 brown ,1 red ,2 yellow ,1blue,1 white ,on bottom is 1 black. I have 1 white wire which's the common from the power cord which has been broken at the terminal on the wire. Where does the common wire connect? I cannot find any marks or pkaces where it may go. I tried stopping the video to see but the pictures blurred out and the lighting is dim
can you send me a brighter photo of the power cord and selection switch hookup?

friend I have a battery charger that has damaged the rectifier diodes and the transformer booted me a voltage of 24 volts I could make an adactation with another type of rectifier, because it is 250 amp if I adapt several rectifiers would do it in parallel to get at 250 amp thanks.

usually the label on the outside shows 250 Amps but that is just for a few seconds. remember when u start ur car, it takes less than 5 seconds to start. thats the meaning of the 250 Amps. technically you cannot just take a few rectifiers and parallel them together although you can still try to do that. the diodes shout all be of the same manufacturer and part number and date code. that is the closest you can get to make them share current. When Silicon diodes heat up their voltage drops, so if one is hogging the current, its voltage drops and it hogs more current and soon it is trying to take all the current and soon it blows up and then withing a few tenths of a second the next one and the next one will go and ure left with nothing, and also perhaps a burnt out transformer

first this is that u had it in your kitchen. could you not have taken it outside and given it a good strong hosing inside and outside. let it dry out in the sun for a day or so, before u brought that dirty thing into ur kitchen? those diodes dont look like 250 Amp diodes.
