    ABOUT THIS VLOG:
➡ The biggest MUST do activity on Madeira is going on a whale and dolphin watching tour. Madeira is located in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean which means a boat trip is the equivalent of going thousand miles off the European coast. In other words, Madeira is smack bang in the middle of all the ocean fun. Here you can see literally all the most interesting and fascinating sea creatures whether it's massive fin whales or rare false killer whales.

In the Madeira sea, you may see: Blue whale; Fin whale; Sei whale; Sperm whale; Bryde's whale; Humpback whale; Minke whale; Killer whale; Curvier's beaked whale; False killer whale; Short-finned pilot whale; Sowerby's beaked whale; Blainville's beaked whale; Risso's dolphin; Bottlenose dolphin; Rough-toothed dolphin; Striped dolphin; Short-beaked common dolphin; Atlantic spotted dolphin. And if you go to the Desertas Islands you may find sea lions and could cross with turtles on the way. Some living here some just crossing so depending the season you could see several species.

I went on my first whale watch in San Diego long before both of you were born. In those days we were not restricted in how close we could get. We were near a small skiff with two guys fishing on a lazy, calm Sunday morning. A beer in one hand and a fishing pole in the other. Suddenly a whale surfaced about two feet from the boat. Beers went in one direction, fishing poles went the other way. I never saw a boat head for shore quicker than them. Made the trip all worthwhile.

Thanks, to you two, Happy Wanderer’s... I plan to visit, Madeira... as soon as travel restrictions are lifted. With the idea of perhaps, living on Madeira, and visiting the rest of Portugal, on occasion when Island fever strikes! As a SoCal native... there is a slight Santa Barbara, feel, in Madeira. (I’m retired, and have the options.) It looks like a great place, to “Eat, Drink... Be Fat And Drunk”. (As my Post-it note suggest!) Then join my fellow whales, at sea! (I promise, not to be “The Ugly American” and ruin it all!) Thx again, for the inspiration!
