As a non Sonic fan who has played a few Sonic games in his life, this was a interesting experience on playing a 2D Sonic game. It was also interesting to see the characters old design (Amy and Dr. Eggman) since I grew up with the modern version of them and I never heard of Fang before. The Trip and Last story almost made me rage quit, but I was able to do it.

I remember the year I got Sonic Heroes for Christmas. I also went to see A Series of Unfortunate Events in theaters and they had this Series of Unfortunate Events Sunny D that I would drink. What a time to be alive.
This playthrough of choc was significantly less chaotic than sidequest’s.

I truly loved this game. I played this game for up to 50 hours. Such a masterpiece. I 100% the game with all 7 chaos emeralds and completing trips story, last story and ranking up to bronze rookie in the game. I beat the game with every single character allowing me to see there own ending and beginning cutscene. The only problem I have is that its glitchy. The super sonic music theme was playing stilll even when I crossed the finish line. The final bosses are hell And I nearly cried out of rage when I glitched through the floor

So far I’ve only completed Sonic’s run (only got it recently), but yeahhh, I’ve noticed most of these things too. It really feels like the levels weren’t built with Super forms in mind, as with Super Sonic, it’s easy to miss triggers that change your path, meaning sometimes you simply overrun the end of the area, and fall into a bottomless pit. I’ve had the same bugs you’ve listed as well.

Fun fact: in the eggmobile section every character has their own unique eggmobile. Sonic has the original, Tails has the Sonic 2 model, Knuckles has the Sonic 3 & K model and Amy has the model from Sonic CD. I'm not sure what Trip's is, haven't seen it yet.
Edit: Got to Trip's eggmobile, she has the Egg Burner mk 1 (I think that's the name) from Sonic 3, the one you fight at the end of Angel Island zone.

The eggmobile for amy is actually the eggmobile from the tidal tempest boss fight with the many bubbles!!

The vibes the hydrocity stages gives is the best
I love how Trip's jump animation is the same as Vector's in Knuckles Chaotix, given they're both lizards. Armadillo girdled lizards also ball up like that naturally in a donut shape too, it's super cute.

Choc absolutely locking in as soon as Fadel got close to 50 coins really brings me back to co-op with my brother.
20:09 for me, it's the rush/ colors DS version of the sonic 2 stages because you can control sonic via the touch screen and it's so responsive.

Cyber Station Zone looks like a level taken straight from Pulseman.
and fun and completely unrelated fact: Pulseman was developed by Game Freak for Sega in 1994, which would go on and create Pokémon Red and Blue in 1996 for Nintendo. their art are from the same designers.

Trip's spin dash looks basically like how Vector's spin dash looks in knuckles chaotix.

Touhou is generally Bullet Hell games, with a wide cast of characters. Made by ZUN, and starting all the way back in PC98, but being better known from the first game of the Windows games (Touhou 6 ~ Embodiment of Scarlet Devil). Lots of hard games, with even Easy Mode sometimes being a pain to beat fully. You should really try it out though Choc! I suggest both Touhou 8 ~ Imperishable Night & Touhou 15 ~ Legacy of Lunatic Kingdom! The series is still going, and right now the newest game is Touhou 19.
There is many other games in Touhou Project, with fighters being one of them. I highly suggest the series to you, since you do a fair share of difficult games, so it would fit in well! (Perhaps full playthroughs of the games? Including Extra Stages?)

The Egg Mobile that Amy is using is the version from Sonic CD. Tails would have the version from Sonic 2, and Knuckles from Sonic 3.

For me it depends on the game if I use d pad. Most 2D and fighters yes. My girl loves crash and I try to get her to use d pad cuz she’s like how are you so good? I’m like not only have I been a gamer since 3 but the game literally says use the d pad to be more accurate lol. However she still can’t do it. Wow I was waiting till I beat this game to watch this and now I know I have a secret boss to beat , well 2 lol.
