Yeah well, Ned Flander taught u that
I was watching joker with my dad and he loves finding symbolic meanings in movies. And he told me do you notice how every time something bad happens in Arthur’s life he is going the long stairs up. That means he still has a tough life and he always starts from the beginning over and over again. The first time we saw him coming down was the dancing scene where he slowly turned to the joker. It’s crazy how the director showing us so many details and a lot of people don’t even see it.
Yes we see it, thanks to the Canadian lad!!!
It also shows how hard to rise up and how easy to fall down in life.
The stairs symbolise his mental state. The first half he's going up them, meaning he's trying to find a way out of his duldrum. Once he stops taking his meds he starts going down the stairs, symbolising his decline into madness.

When Joker says, “When I was a little boy and told people I was going to be a comedian, everyone laughed at me. Well, no one's laughing now”. This is a direct lift from English comedian Bob Monkhouse. It was probably his best ever line.

Todd Philips also directed "Hated", a documentary about GG Allin. The portrait of GG on the original movie poster was painted by noted serial killer John Wayne Gacy. Gacy was an occasional clown and went by the name "Pogo". The comedy club where Arthur performs in the film is called "Pogo's".

That kind of behavior is reminiscent of the Imposter from Among Us. Won’t you say ?
Well Arthur also went and touched his son and strangled his butler so....
Yes and no. If someone keeps laughing in your face it comes off as quite condescending which grows on some peoples nerves very quickly, or eventually. This could lead one into decking someone in the face. But, this also causes the same defensive response as well.
Then you also need to consider how Arthur touched Wayne's son, assaulted the butler, so it's possible Wayne was not taking any shit today...
It's still impossible to know due to the ambiguity and equally likely scenarios. It's one or the other, and frankly there's no way to determine which is correct.
This is thee best version of the Joker I have ever seen. Joaquin Phoenix did the hard work, excellent actor.
I still believe Heath Ledgers interpretation of the Joker was much better. Joaquin had the luxury of having the movie focus on the Development of the Joker. I feel if Ledger had been given a similar opportunity to demonstrate his acting skills via a movie dedicated mainly on the creation of the Joker, Ledgers version would be better than this...Just my opinion...

My dad always says 'How can you watch the same movies over and over again?' As I've always explained, it's because with exceptional movies, you can't take in everything the movie has to offer the first few times. Masterworks are littered with nuances and subtle details you only notice on repeated viewings. And your appreciation for the film just grows!
I've done it with many films. Heat is one, for example.
The Shining is one.
Employee of the month for me lmao
That's so true. I'm more into this repetitive stuff with music, but this phenomenon applies to the best movies just so perfectly as well :)
Exactly. Also, realize, the directors and others watch all the cuts over and over and over and over hundreds, thousands of times, all for working these details into the work.
This was a VERY disturbing movie, one that Mr. Phoenix definitely should win an Oscar for.

Only SOME actors and SOME directors deserve any kind of notice. Because the majority of them are sick, selfish subhumans
Phenomenal film - foreshadowing is amazing and Phoenix deserves an Oscar!
Heath Ledger played Joker like what the right Joker is, and Joaquin Phoenix played Joker like what the true joker is. Phoenix showed the real, complicated, simple and the most profound Joker ever. A joker with strong and humane conviction.

I never really see people talking about this, maybe because it's obvious or what, but when Arthur is in the therapists office and it cuts to the white room, the white room has the same dimentions as the therapists office. The clock is in the same place, door is the same, room is the same size, everything. This would imply that the entire movie is all in his head and that's the joke the lady wouldn't get. I'm sure that's blatantly obvious but i wish more people mentioned that the therapists room and the white room are the same room.
I'm never a fan of "it was all just a dream" interpretations of movies. They don't offer any additional insight to the story and characters and would seem pointless.
@@mohammadalirashed3103 i think the whole movie is up to interpretation, and that's my interpretation based on that one scene being added. If it wasn't for that quick flash, then i would take the movie at face value.
@@clipperkid3753 your right because the joker is a unreliable charecter he might event think that's how his room looked
I noticed it too
It’s fair imo but only due to Jokers lore. He is meant to be unreliable and to have an uncertain history. Giving him a solid origin story would be unfair.
Anybody else notice the arches everywhere? I took that as a reference to Arkham Asylum, and how at the beginning he says "is it just me or is it getting crazier out there." When he's feeling comfortable, the arches disappear and it's long, wide rectangles like in the back window of the bus, the TV camera, the mirror in the bathroom, etc.
That was a well rounded explanation of the film. Thank you. As a psychology major, I love this fila as it shows the great effects of childhood trauma. Joker is simply a victim. All he was looking for is love. The world we live in is so cruel.
I think Thomas Wayne's limo was the only one on fire because he was the only person who brought a limo while everyone else had regular cars.
The murder was waiting for them and normal car doesn't necessarily imply cheap. I get what your saying, rioters target the symbols of power, but there is definitely the potential for it to have been set up.
@Porra Caralho maybe they had a novelty number plate "Wayne" or a bumper sticker that said "proud living parents of mentally stable child who won't turn to vigilantism to cope with our murder, not that that's ever going to happen either"

In most Joker adaptations he doesn't hate batman, just uses him for entertainment
Yea joker doesnt hate batman. But he does try to show that they are the same type of people
No, Joker loves Batman. In fact Batman is the only thing that keeps Joker alive.
I might be alone on this, but I really don't like the idea of Joker being Batman's brother. The trope of the villain secretly being related to the hero has been done to death. That's the kind of reveal gets retconned within a year when it happens in comic books.

I have to say I didn’t even recognize Joaquin Phoenix until late in the movie. What a performance.
Outstanding! I've watched this film a dozen times and didn't catch these thing. I look forward to seeing it again.
The great thing about Joker is that because he’s an unreliable narrator, we have no idea whether anything that happened in the movie was real. It may have all been an elaborate joke he was telling to the psychiatrist, maybe he was just imagining “what if I did this instead of that” or maybe he really did kill Murray and start a mass citywide riot. It’s all ambiguous and left to interpretation.
On a side note, I really hope they don’t do a sequel to this movie, Joaquin was amazing as Joker and I’d love to see more but a sequel could possibly ruin ambiguity of this movie
I think the sequels been confirmed sadly
I would love to see how they expand on this film next, ambiguity is cool but they clearly have a plan to flesh out this character, given how much more successful it was than most of the recent DC films I wouldn't be surprised
I would prefer it being a standalone movie since the first one is amazing but I would also like it to be a great trilogy. I would like to see a final scene where Batman takes him down but we never really get a good look at Batman. We have seen it so often from Batman's point of view but never the bad guys. That dark scary figure that pops out of nowhere. With Joker's mental state they could make the scene look less realistic and it would still work. But if they make sequels and it ruins the first movie I would also prefer only one movie. So many first great movies are ruined by bad sequels.
I think the end where he stood on top the car was a daydream because you never see him get arrested and it cuts to him in Arkham looking off to the side like he does when he daydreams earlier in the movie
@@basedgodly1623 If I had to choose one reason why the scene might not be real is that it's the first moment where he finally gets the praise and love that he so desperately wanted. The cops were already onto him before he went on TV so it could only be a matter of time before they catch him again. We don't know how much time passes between the car and the end scenes. I want to believe that the entire movie is Arthur's inaccurate version of events but everything did happen.

u are appreciated by filmmakers everywhere, ,,they can see their hard work finally get the attention it deserves..
I discovered this chanel few days ago and I admire him it's insane
The “my name is carnival” but, is because that’s the jokers clown name, and everything you see in the movie is a story that aether is telling in his own head, that’s why when he bangs his head against the wall he snaps back into reality for a second and we see him in his cell, thats also why every clock in this movie is set to 11 minutes past 11 (11:11), because that’s the real time of Arthur’s real world, that’s also why the movie finishes with him in hospital thinking of “a joke”, the whole story we see is just a big joke that arther altered to his will, that’s why he shot 8 bullets out of a six shooter without reloading, because he wanted to inflict more anarchy then the gun would allow, so his brain put 2 more bullets in the gun
Actually, some revolvers can have 8 bullets. Dont know if he actually used one of those tho
ThrasherMurat it’s been confirmed to be a 6 shooter, I’m aware there are 8 shooters, there are revolvers that can hold more then 8 if I’m not mistaken
Gaming Nation the closest we’ve gotten to the jokers past is the pale man under Gotham and the 3 joker theory which I think is being turned into a comic book
The whole point of the joker is that he has 1000 back stories but at the same time has no back story, the joker is also one of the rare comic book characters that knows he’s just a character in a book, not a real person, deadpool is another character who knows he’s in a comic book, that’s why these characters love anarchy and chaos, because they know they aren’t hurting any real people
Your comment has more substance than the video it’s for.

The reference of Chernobyl in the newspaper could be a nod to the Joker soundtracks composer who also made the music for HBOs Chernobyl series.
Great point. But is worth giving a nod to mess up timeline continuity? I really dont know.
It could also be that since his relationship with Sophie was all in his mind, that reference in terms of the year is irrelevant.

At 4:09, Arthur's clown name before he was fired was also "Carnival". The movie references this by very bluntly stating that "His name is Carnival".
To look at the history of the world CARNIVAL: 1540s, "time of merrymaking before Lent," from French carnaval, from Italian carnevale "Shrove Tuesday," from older Italian forms such as Milanese *carnelevale, Old Pisan carnelevare "to remove meat," literally "raising flesh," from Latin caro "flesh" (originally "a piece of flesh," from PIE root *sker- (1) "to cut") + levare "lighten, raise, remove" (from PIE root *legwh- "not heavy, having little weight").
Folk etymology is from Medieval Latin carne vale " 'flesh, farewell!
In essence... Joker=Carnival=Raising Flesh -> Raising flesh would be one creepy way to describe smiling. Raising flesh is also what Joker does when he makes all the undead Joker Zombies in the comics, as well as using the Lazarus Pit himself in some stories.
And if you use the 'remove flesh' root meaning, well he did that to his own face in the comics too.

I read your comment in 0.25x speed and Here's What I Found
🤣🤣🤣
This is like the equivalent to waiting for a midnight premiere of a movie
@Scuddy2.0 Scuddy2.0 ha! wow
@Minty what speed
6:11 when joker goes infront of camera his suit can be seen in purple
Thats some facts
How did I not notice it thanks for pointing it out
And what is the symbol of that purple suit?
@@vashudharajedwivedi1088 Jokers suit was purple in the cartoons and comics
Very interesting stuff!! Good work Lad!
I felt a connection to the part when he finally excepts who he is as he dancing down the steps!!! Bravo and cant wait till part 2❤️❤️❤️❤️
The Latin word for "left" is "sinister"
That's correct my friend ;)
there's also the left-hand path and right-hand path in reference to occult magic
Sinistram ...
and the right is dexter
@@TYSLYS sinistram in english is Sinister tho. He is not wrong he just didnt specify. In a thesaurus sinister is legit listed as a synonym to Left. So yea tomato, tomatoe. Lmao
I think that Wayne punched joker because he was pissed off by his story.
Imagine you're rich and all the time everybody want something from you, so you can't even go to toilet alone. Its frustrating and Im not surprised Thomas was mad
I think it's coz the joker literally touched Bruce
Chris but he didn’t have a problem with him until he mentioned penny
It’s also definitely because Arthur went over to his house and harassed and touched his son. Doing that plus claiming you are someone’s son like that could definitely trigger an angry reaction
It was supposed to be a form of Batman punching the Joker.
How come a billionare like Thomas Wayne doesn't have a bodyguard near him?
Looks like the same time is also on the time clock after he’s been fired. Didn’t hear that one mentioned. Good stuff!
This is possibly the last mainstream film that is high art that will ever be made. BTW the date with the girl is different because it takes place in an alternate reality in Joker's mind... A thematic through line of the film.
Seeing this Universe progress with the same Joker and little Bruce Wayne becoming the batman ? Insane potential
Yeah i cant wait for a 60 year old Joaquin Joker.
Ever heard of CG ?
OK, I was NEVER one of those people overly praising this movie, but that Batman image in the mirror from the beginning!!!! WOW
Enjoyed this deconstruction. Nicely done! 💎🤗😊
Pretty amazing the amount of small details that go into production.
Me "hey what is this movie all about"
Director "Decide yourself"
If he’s going to have a past, make it multiple-choice
when i watch these i watch the movie with my dad after and point out these things and he thinks i’m the smartest person
send DiCaprio memes here
Great job! I’m surprised you didn’t mention the photograph of Penny with a greeting from T.W.
by far, the most informative video on the movie! Thanks!
I watched this at 2x speed so I could miss the details again.
then you would still remain below 1x, at a 0.5x playback speed

theaters often reshow older movies, especially in the 70s and 80s due to home cinema being in its infancy. So it is possible that the movie is set in 86, not to discredit your argument that he is unreliable because he is. Just stating that there is an alternate explanation
The observation was about Chernobyl hitting the news while a movie that showed years later was happening around the same time, not the other way around
@@Hanex94 the movie he mentioned came out in 1981, and he even states it himself. Chernobyl happened five years afterwards. So it is not the other way around, He is trying set the motif that the gap between where the movie would first be in theaters and the chernobyl accident makes him unreliable but it really does not. since theaters often replay movies. I watched the Empire strikes back in theaters two months ago.
@@yourracistcousinleo He was also on a "date" which we know is false. You could say that anything seen during the times he is with his fake GF is fake as well and not true. So the Chernobyl incident could have been on his mind for some strange reason while he was narrating his date.
This could also lend to the theory that at the end of the film he is much older. Maybe we see in 81 what really happened to him and he is retelling it in 86 with the current events going on then.
The director said it's supposed to be 1981
Fascinating. Great job on this!
Good catch!! Excellent video.
I feel that the clown nose make up is the depiction of what made him the Joker - the punch in the face by Thomas Wayne
Yeah.. i think you are right.
Yeah but almost every clown has a red nose
@@lester3917 self-fulfilling prophesy
An important pass on this video is that every time Arthur laughs maniacally is because he is actually feeling really bad, and i mean extremely bad about what's happening or about how he is being treated at that moment. For some reason people in the movie and we the audience don't realise it, and it some how adds to the extreme awkwardness and crazy scenes.
Well...
I noticed this as well when watching! Which makes sense if it's easily triggered by stress but still brilliant.
Thought I've already subscribed but now you have a new subscriber
Kudos! All your video posts were like a forensic scientist 's work
Another thin I've noticed is that every single time the Joker kills somebody.
He dances or does something that he loves, as if he enjoyed killing them.
Edit: Oh wait, I forgot to add something. He probably does this so that he can put it behind him and focus on the present. Or, just to make him feel better.
i think his dancing is a way to cope with what he just did
Wayne hitting him isn’t too out of character for a wealthy famous person. People like that get ambushed constantly, & hit w/fraudulent claims all the time.
We’ve seen plenty of celebs act violently, it’s not out the question Wayne would be irate that he can’t even take a piss without someone wanting a piece. Let alone the child of your stalker.
When he's dancing behind the curtains, just before he goes out, he poses like a jester on a joker card.
Also, I don't know how you didn't catch it but it pretty much confirms that Thomas Wayne is Arthur's father after he kills his mother. Arthur goes through her belongings later in the film and finds a picture and I don't think Arthur actually sees it but there is a note on the back that read 'I love the way you smile.' -T.W.
Wow, man, that's some interesting finds !
Good work !
Ledger’s Joker wanted to watch the world burn because he saw the world as a joke.
Joaquin’s Joker wanted to watch the world burn because the world saw him as a joke.

He wasn’t wearing a straight jacket. You can clearly see a part of his arm.
Go, Canadian Lad! Nice observations!! Thanks! From B.C.! 😜
Had to drop a like after the first minute only lol good job
