Avengers: Endgame Did The Impossible And We Failed To Realize It
Alright lads so it's been 5 years since the release of Endgame and I'm gonna say it out loud, Avengers: Endgame is the best comic-book movie of all time.
I just watched the movie again and I thought I have to make this video because what this movie did 5 years ago was actually quite an impossible task! I mean think about it, some of the recent Marvel shows like Secret Invasion, She-Hulk or Thor: Love And Thunder didn't stick the landing at all.
While Endgame was a culmination of 22 movies! Now if Endgame hadn't existed, Infinity War would have been the best comic-book movie of all time.
But all of the efforts of Infinity War would have gone into vain if Endgame hadn't stick the landing. So you're not just tasked with writing a finale to 22 movies, but you're tasked with writing a finale to Infinity War! And that in and of itself should seem impossible. In this video, I point out 5 important reasons why Avengers: Endgame is probably the greatest comic-book movie of all time and let's see if we both agree on it.

    I git in a really bad car crash about 2 weeks before infinity war came out. This wreck was causing me to just fall asleep anyand everywhere. I fell asleep all throughout this movie, not once, not twice but 3 times in the movie theater. My son tried to wake my butt up and said he gave up about the 4th time trying. I got lucky and was finally able to watch it on DVD at home before Engame came out. Now as far as one being better then the other one. I will say this. At the end of Endgame, I told my son with tears in my eyes. There will never be a greater movie series then this. Going back to Ironman in what 08 or 09. I'm 48yrs old now and I have seen movies fall flat and others stand TALL!!! These movies stood TALL and we all enjoyed them for it. Thank you Marvel for this. Even though it's all about making money, the fan really appreciated this. I wish you all the very best.

    I think Infinity War is a better movie. And maybe there is other better comic book based movies like Dark Knight, Joker, Logan, etc from a strictly cinematic stand point. But I think Endgame is the better representation of a comic book universe in all it's idiosyncrasy unashamed of any part of it and for me this make it the best comic book adaptation (hell they have the massive two page splash screen with hundreds or thousands of characters, who ever imagined that one day we would have something like that in live action?). I also love how it's is a celebration of the MCU up to that point, with the time travel plot point giving the audiences and characters the opportunity to reflect on what came before in a different perspective. It will also be a long time for it to be reproduced. The MCU/Infinity Saga is a weird ass phenomenon. To have a corporation making consistently good 20+ films (hate as much as you want but is undeniable that up to that point Marvel didn't make any unwatchable movie, boring? Yes, unwatchable not. Even Captain Marvel that I hate and don't consider canon because of the atrocious thing they do to Nick Fury and contradicts Winter Soldier that is arguably the best MCU movie in cinematic terms after Infinity War, is watchable) for a decade. They were also pretty consistent with themselves, character development throughout multiple films done by different filmmakers and written by different people, and their internal universe rules. This is not common and will not happen again anytime soon. Most movie franchise are ruined by executive and focus groups research trying to maximize profit trying to reach every single demographic group (and ending up reaching no one) after 2 or 3 installment at best. And today we have the cultural wars that will not end anytime soon, and corporations fully pushing entertainment as propaganda for indoctrination of people on what they think is the right mindset that people should have to live on their corporatecracy "You will own nothing and be happy". So it's very unlikely that any time soon someone will repeat this feat. Specially now that the novelty has warm off and if you don't have the consistency and brand/storyline investing since the beginning your shared universe is dead on arrival. Which means that the Infinity Saga and Endgame will be something unique and special for a very long time, a few decades at least.

  • @slinger5206

    I disagree with the Audience not thinking that Thanos would win and the snap would kill half the universe. Practically everyone knew. The story is based on the Infinity Saga comics (loosely). The only people that would not have known that Thanos kills half the universe would be people that knew nothing about Marvel. Even those unfamiliar with the comic side of Marvel would have seen that coming a mile away from the build up in Infinity War. End Game was good, but Infinity War was still by far the better of the movies over all. Also, we get the absolute worst version of the Hulk and Thor ever to hit the silver screen. They literally turned Thor into a complete joke. Thor taking a step forward in no way shape or form make up for what they did to Thor.

  • @truongnguyennhat8983

    One detail I trully love about Endgame is, before that, The Trio always has "a break point in their heart". Tony with his daddy, Thor with his mom's death and Cap with Peggy. All of that they never have a chance to "cure". Endgame is the end, so we love to see how they are fullfil their last memory, that means time travel was a only way. Right after Infinity war ending, I've already known that Avengers 4 would be a time travel movie.

    *Steve Rogers* In 1st Avenger: Steve Rogers [pre serum] , tells Peggy about all the fights he's had and lost. She asks why he kept fighting [why not run away?] His answer - as a scrawny young man - who had polio as a kid - is that he always had something to prove. Peggy's reply: _I know something about that._ (as a woman - as opposed to undersized man - who had the heart of a fighter) When it's suggested that he find himself a girl (try being a lover, and not a fighter all the time) - Steve replies that girls: _terrified him._ Go watch the film again, because some of the Steve stans deny this, cuz they are like little kids and actually share the characters insecurities. lol. Peggy then coyly says: _Maybe you just have not found the right girl._ And this leads to their romance - in which Steve promises to come back to Peggy. But in the climatic final scenes of the film - *He breaks his promise.* Steve choses to go down with the ship - to finally realize his goal of dying a hero, and thereby SKIRTING the one thing *he stated* he truly feared....girls. Love. Can't be overstated: He didn't just prevent the plane from hurting others...he could have jumped out...nope HE WENT DOWN WITH THE PLANE. He "died/not/died" - *rather than* risk going back to Peggy. Talk about standing up a date! lol. [it's Peggy *not Bucky* that he broke his promise to - but again Steve and Bucky stans view the film as 12 year old boys would and they completely ignore all of the above because the 'girl' from their perspective is just getting in the way of the Batman and Robin comic book for little boys....they are trying to sustain in their heads] In Age of Ultron - Ultron calls Steve out, and understands his story - better than many people writing in these forums: _Aaaagh! Captain America. God's righteous man. Pretending you could live without a war. I can't physically throw up in my mouth, but..._ Mind Stone enhanced Ultron gets it. And so does Steve - when Wanda hexes him and see's the life he ran away from.... _Are you ready for our dance? The war is over Steve? _We can go home now!_ - Peggy When Steve travels back in time - he sees that Peggy never did forget him - never got over him. He realizes their love is mutual - and timeless. *He can go home now.* When he travels back in time and returns the stones, he then makes the choice that is opposite of his 1st Avenger choice. He choses the lover this time - over the soldier. He choses Peggy *over* Captain America [again unacceptable to 12 year old boys, but the film is written for adults]. In doing so he also answers the Challenge that Tony 1st put to him: *To get a life.* To try cutting the wire for once - instead of trying forever to fall on the grenade. Stop being afraid of living, and so trying to give your life - and *get a life* instead. And it was beautiful. In so doing Steve Rogers completes his character arc, [some 'fans' don't even get that character arc implies change due to the narrative- not repetition despite the narrative. Just writing 101, but they haven't gotten that far yet, lol]

      I 100% agree. This is one of the reasons the MCU worked so well up to this point. There was a plan (maybe not known entirely) and they kept to it. Just like with Tony constantly upgrading his suits to counter his past failures. Goddammit, I love these films 😂

  • @tylerkloever4442
    @tylerkloever4442 Před 9 hodinami

    Infinity War is SO MUCH BETTER THAN ENDGAME. It’s not even close! Endgame was pure fan service that had to use time travel, the laziest cliche in film, to formulate its plot. It’s a perfect sendoff gifted to the fans, but to say it’s better than Infinity War would be straight blasphemy. I enjoyed Endgame, but stop saying it’s better than Infinity War. The opening scene with Hawkeye was the only good thing in Endgame which is basically a part of Infinity War in terms of its tone.

    • @summertyme5748
      @summertyme5748 Před 8 hodinami

      - Both films are great but Endgame is the better of the two which is why this forum is about Endgame. If it were about Infinity War it'd be dead and *I don't think even you would be here,* so your salt is pointless and self defeating. - Time travel is not a cliche anymore than space travel. With Space travel: You can make a film like 2001 A Space Odyssey about space travel which is a masterpiece, or you can make something like Rebel Moon, which is garbage. Same with time travel. Endgame is a masterpiece. A Christmas Carol (a time travel story) is also masterpiece. Or you can do something like Flash....which is garbage. No filmmaker or writer dismisses Space or Time Travel as being inherently worthless. It's in the way that you use it. "but stop saying it’s better than Infinity War" Stop being so sensitive and catching feelings just because most people disagree with you. It is a fact that Endgame got better reviews from critics and audiences alike and of course it broke every box office record in cinema history at the time. The video does a good job of explaining why. Deal with it.

    • @tylerkloever4442
      @tylerkloever4442 Před 8 hodinami

      @@summertyme5748 it IS better than Endgame though, and most people agree on that statement. The way they handled Endgame was significantly less impactful because of the excessive fan service and the deconstruction of the Infinity Saga’s finale villain. They even had to throw Captain Marvel out of the movie because they didn’t know what to do with her. Endgame was a great tribute to the longtime fans and story, but as a film, it’s not really that good. Lazy writing, deconstruction of characters, and lazy plot drag Endgame through the mud. Infinity War, minus the stupid Dr. Strange dialogue where he states that there’s only one outcome where the heroes win (bs because if Thor went for the head, the Avengers would’ve won, so clearly there was more than one way. Heck if someone holds Starlord back, the heroes win), is a better film in every way. I would argue it’s one of the BEST superhero movies of all time. I watched Endgame eight times in theaters, so I have a ton of fun moments from watching it, but I can’t be bothered with denial by lying about the greatness of Endgame because it was a bad and lazy story. I theorize that the Russo’s didn’t really know how to undo the snap from Infinity War therefore took the sloppiest way out possible, time travel.

      Oddly tautological reasoning. Actually no one knew there would be an Endgame. The title was guessed at after the cliffhanger of Infinity War. And most plot synopsis had the Avengers chasing Thanos around trying to take the gauntlet from him in Endgame. His dying at the beginning of the film, led both to a completely unexpected film - about trauma and grief, and a recontextualization of the entire MCU. Thanos really did *win* and die, as was his goal. His actions were only reversed years after his death, and even then to unclear consequences. Also the betting line on Endgame was that Steve Rogers would certainly die and Nat was most likely to live. So....

      @@summertyme5748 wrong. The movie was announced in 2014 and went into production in 2017. The only thing that wasn't known until later was the final title "Endgame".

    At the rank of Captain… you’re gonna command a battalion of heroes spreading across hundreds of meters by whispering? Wow! That is why I never liked this human torch guy… ever

    • @summertyme5748

      Wow, you guys are awful at understanding films. I mean it. Steve Rogers does not *command* Asgardians, or Wakandan's, or Ravagers, or Sorcerers. It's a sloppy and lazy mistake *by you* and a plot hole *in your thinking* to imagine that he is commanding anyone. He is a Captain - in the US military only - and he isn't even that anymore as he went Nomad. What he does - is give the Avengers Battle Cry - Avengers Assemble. It can in fact be heard by Thor - the King of Asgard and T'Challa - the King of Wakanda. And then they *not Steve* ROAR and charge. Their armies follow their kings and everyone else joins in. It illustrates shared leadership. A concept likely too hard for some immature viewers in the audience. Something that is obviously required in this situation, but just fails to occur - to you. Also the direction to not scream the dialogue comes from the Russo's. It's not some kind of acting choice by Chris Evans, human torch guy. So your snide remarks about him amounts to saying you don't like the actor because he follows the director's instructions - which he understands, and most of the audience understands. The only one who doesn't understand, well, anything, is you.

      It's not because his character died. It's because the filmmaking and writing is bad. Maybe if you could bring back the Russos and Marcus/Mcfeely - then you would have the same quality again as with Endgame, Infinity War, Civil War, and Winter soldier - Kevin Feige [the producers] 4 best films....oddly enough.

    I don’t disagree with your final assessment but there are important facts that you’re not accounting for. Most people weren’t surprised by the snap since that’s how it happened in the comic series the movie is based on. While details changed the essence stayed; they had a blueprint to draw from. Well established characters, letting them shine, taking it serious while following a blueprint lead to, yes, the best superhero movie of all time.

      _Well established characters, letting them shine, taking it serious while following a blueprint lead to, yes, the best superhero movie of all time._ Yes and allowing them to complete actual character arcs, so that you can have cinema, and not an amusement park ride that repeats over and over while going nowhere.

    Did Thor take himself seriously? They destroyed Thor over all the films.

    • @summertyme5748
      @summertyme5748 Před 9 hodinami

      Thor and Banner both had their greatest character arcs over the 3 films Ragnorok, Infinity War and Endgame. What you want - is a comic book/video game movie where there are no real characters and nothing happens. That's not cinema, it's comfort food as fan service. Endgame was better than that, and of course you don't appreciate it but given what you demand..which is less than nothing, why would you?

    I'll say it because it has to be said, but that captain Marvel entrance was pure propoganda, you had thehulk and Thor right there, but the inclusion crap has left a really bad taste in the mouth of the purists

      _that captain Marvel entrance was pure propoganda_ Little boy want female leave treehouse now!! 😭 Hulk had one arm and was nearly killed by his snap, and blasted away by Thanos ship. Thor had been beaten to within an inch of his life. Neither were in shape at that point to be any match for Thanos. Of course in silly kids movies the heroes are just action bunnies who never can be hurt, never tired, never afraid, but that stuff is just for kids, and it makes the movies unwatchable to (most) adults. It's amazing that any of these films can manage to transcend the more juvenile elements in the self entitled 'fan' base.

    The reason the comedy works yet it remains serious is the fact that the movie wasn’t written as a forced comedy, the funny bits were just realistic tension breakers that some people do in those situations and it felt appropriate. Tony making jokes in a serious situation makes sense. Thor, a suffering god, doing dumb funny comedic stuff during Love and Thunder made zero sense
