Just stumbled onto these videos, and haven't even purchased Logic yet -- thinking about switching over from Studio One and wanted to see what Logic was like first -- and I have to say, these are the best video tutorials I've ever seen... And I've legitimately watched probably over a thousand hours of tutorials on all kinds of topics. And not just the best for music/production/daw/etc tutorials either, the best for any tutorial period. Concise, informative, to the point yet very in-depth... Just needed to tell you what an incredible job you're doing man. And that I myself, as well as countless other people I'm sure, are deeply grateful and appreciate all of your work and effort. You're a great dude, cheers brother
These are by far the most helpful tutorials on Logic. Other videos are too long with an overwhelming amount of information but yours are straight to the point and easy to understand. I appreciate these videos so much!! Super beginner friendly!
Dude, ive been dying to find a tutorial series like yours. thank you so much. keep up the good work. looking forward to the 201 and 301 series as well.
just superb! Been working through this series as a refresher before I dive back into logic after a few years away, extremely well put together thanks so much for putting in the effort!
Just found your Logic tutorials on here and I'm loving it! I've been playing guitar for years and have never taken a step towards learning how to actually records my own tracks (always depend on someone else to press the record button) much appreciated on the lessons!
Hey gotta say, Music tech help guy vids are by far and away the best Logic Pro videos out there and probably the only notification I look forward to recieving. You are such a wonderful guy, to spend so much time and effort putting this stuff on here for free. I'd like to say thank-you big fella, your a great guitar player/musician and an amazing teacher. Thankyou mate.
These videos are great. Made it to video 3 and I think im going all the way through cuz theres alot of value. I like how u explain the short codes for what you're doing which is what I was looking for initially
Loving your to-the-point teaching style. I was using Audition for a while simply because I pay for the whole subscription service being a photo/video guy, but I wanted something more... and something easier to digest. You have sold me on Logic. Purchased and installed today. Thank you. I look forward to watching more of your videos!
Thank you for your descriptions. I’m completely blind, so I appreciate you using the terms that Logic uses, and also keystrokes. Voiceover uses the Logic’s terms to identify things, so when you use the term Inspector, that’s what Voiceover uses. Or if you were to talk about piano roll and other things. Even if it’s not visually name, the fact that you are describing it that way means that I can find it. And the fact that you are describing what keystrokes to use also means I don’t have to look it all up in the keyboard manager all the time. I really appreciate how you do your videos.
Just saw this comment because I’m watching through all of the tutorial series now. This comment made me smile so wide. So awesome that you’re able to overcome such a disability as blindness to pursue something you’re passionate about. It’s really inspiring. Thank you for your comment.
@@shanebreece Same here! This channel is an amazing resource for Logic Pro and seeing this comment made me realize just how spot on he is with the words he uses, and the accuracy of the information he is publishing. wow after a half year fooling around on Logic Pro X on a daily base I see a lot of features in your tutorials I not discovered jet. Very helpfull and very usefull.I forget to take notes so I gonna watch part 1 2 3 again but thank you
love these videos! i mainly do worship music for my church and thinking about switching from PT11 to LPX. my PT is having a hard time staying stable and crashes a lot and freezes. happy mixing!
You are a really amazing teacher-- and a tremendous musician. I love how you work hard to not to assume that people know all sorts of fundamental tech, jargon and related things. As someone who has been around music/midi/digital music tech since the mid-80's, I try to keep that in mind, but often don't do anywhere near the great job that you do when I try to help friends and others. Great instruction btw.
Hey MTHG, this video is super helpful! I'm running into an issue with my takes going silent at the end for some reason, keeps happening and ruining decent takes. Complete novice just tryna di some stuff to my producer and I could use your help 👍
for recording ideal, light years better as my ableton, especially using the logic remote control via ipad. Only warping in ableton is light years better. So i have to use both.
Cool stuff Jman. I love these LPX run throughs because even though I've been using LPX for 2 years or more, I always find additional little tips tricks and shortcuts with these vids you do. Just wondering why you don't pan the principal geetarz hard L/R ?
Hello! I'm really struggling with my acoustic guitar recording. I can't reach -5dBFS easily like you. I needto strum very hard! My setup is: Acoustic Guitar Lakewood A-32 CP with LR Baggs Anthem System plugged directly into my RME-Babyface Pro audio interface. When I set into Totalmix the maximum gain allowed (+9) @ -10 dBu standard (it's louder than +4dBV), I can reach -10 dBFS when playing soft and -5dBFS when strumming very hard! Now the point is: I can record my guitar quite good while strumming, but it's impossible to reach 0 dBFS, even though I strum extremely hard!!! Instead If I try with my cheaper Acoustic Fender CD-60 CE, I can easily reach overdrive 0dBFS! P.s. both guitar physical volume knobs are set at their max level. The LR Baggs guitar system has just been replaced, it's new and it's ok, maybe I should set the gain of the system with a specialist (my guitar store seller told me this kind of possibility to increase the gain). As I read on the lr bagg anthem system install manual: --------------------------- "MIC GAIN CONTROL (Adjusts the level of the Tru • Mic relative to the level of the Element) IMPORTANT: Setting this control correctly is vital to the sound of the Anthem system. First, you must roll the mix control completely toward the neck. Play through a P.A. or acoustic amplifi er while you are making adjustments. A small fl at- head jeweler’s screwdriver will be needed. Your amplifi ed tone should be well balanced and true to the acoustic sound and feel of the guitar. If it lacks clarity and top-end, increase the mic’s level by turning the control clockwise. Back it off slightly If you experience excessive handling noise and/or brightness." --------------------------- But the point is: When I try to add a new track below the strumming part, for example recording some riffs or solos or harmonics sounds, they sound really low compared to the strumming part!!! How could I solve this? I'm really struggling. Should I use the compressor? Thank you in advance.
Great video. Thinking about adding Logic to my studio along with existing Pro Tools. Question: After you comp the guitar tracks, are you still able to go back to the original tracks and re-comp? I would assume so.
When I add the plugin to my guitar, it shows up when I record, but when I'm not recording my guitar just sounds clean. Anyone know how to fix this? Also, great videos! I am new to Logic and these are very helpful.
Rock on! U have mad guitar skillz! When you were recording your guitar DI, what level of gain where you recording into your computer? I heard -18dbs, and -20dbs, suggestions based off of the Vu reading are best. It's been said this amount of level is a sweet spot by which audio plugins work best, Is this true?
Came out pretty strong. I always ignored comping so thanks!!!!. Anyway....Isn't it better to end up with 2 mono files panned? Easier to work with in the mix no? Thanks!!!!
Hey, love the video. Curious as to the signal chain from guitar > interface. Is there a DI between them? My current issue is when I record guitar, sound is recorded but the tracks have next to no waveform for some reason 🤷♂️
HI!! First of all, thank you very much for your incredible work, it's amazing!! I was just thinking, why don't you share the raw audio tracks you use in your lessons so we can work on the same materials that you create? It's just an idea, what do you think about it? Thanks again for your work and have a nice day!!
I do. It’s extra content you have to pay a little bit for but it’s available. I think around video 7 or 8 I have links to the session content for mixing.
One question though, When I'm trying to record a track while having the drummer play along Logic tells me that the live drummer can't be during the record and that I would have to switch to a similar midi drumkit. Yet he manages to record his guitar track with the drums in the background. Is there something I am missing in the settings or anything?
Great video! Very clear bro just one question when u recorded another guitar sound for the right why didnt you use copy paste from the left one? Is it because two sounds should differ a lil bit ?
Yes, if you just copy and paste, the stereo image won't sound any different. It'll just sound a little louder. Having to slightly different recordings is what creates the enhanced stereo image.
Is there any possible way to go back to previous takes on one track ( something like a pool in Cubase ) and reuse them? Does anybody knows how to that, if at all, in Logic? I made a mistake and I've deleted some takes and I don't know what to do. The undo doesn't work at this point. Thanks!!
So I'm sure I messed something up but I'm not sure what I did but I get my sound of my guitar when I don't record. When I do record, I lose my sound. The weird part is when I stop recording, it shows what I record but the level of the track is much lower than it was before I record. if someone can help that will be cool, thank you
Awesome tutorial man! So just wondering since you’re saying you’re only recording the DI, are you using a DI box or just from guitar straight into the interface? And. How are you monitoring the sound? I also notice you have no latency. I’m having lots of trouble here! Also, anybody ever tell you you sound like Jason Newsted? Lol.
I see your regions dont start on 0 position but on the start of second bar. I do it the same way to catch all the waveform including tiny parts before start. But there is a mess about bar counting then. It would be nice to have an option to set start of edit window on -1.
+Michal Pacalaj you can. You can drag your sessions start point to -1 or even -5 if you want. I don't necessarily find it important to start on bar 1 for any reason
Nope, you need to have at least 2 good takes to put on the left and right. It's the subtle differences between 2 takes that create that sense of space in between.
Setting up my Electric Guitar I get a signal going to the strip but the only sound I am getting is highly distorted noise. I used the amp designer and it makes no difference. what am I doing wrong?
When the takes folder track is selected the line icon should automatically appear when hovering over the two takes under the composite track which is on top (in the tracks original position). Hope that helps!
Anyone could tell me why my LOGIC PRO X record cycle modes, but I can[ t open the track folders when I double click the track!!!?! It just shows one take at a time! Not all take one above the other like in the video..... I Did all the configuration, recording preferences and shit....
What do you do when one of your takes doesn’t line up with another (they had their own click not coming from logic and i had different starting points) can I move an entire take over before Comping after I line them up?

question about gain staging, as a times your master level looks like its going into the red...

It would be nice to explain some more on setting appropriate recording levels when recording guitar to a plugin. Great tutorial btwy!
I'm pretty sure it was around -3 as you can see the Brown Tone Metal bar never goes into red and sticks around -3.
Nice👊

Hey, love the video. Curious as to the signal chain from guitar > interface. Is there a DI between them? My current issue is when I record guitar, sound is recorded but the tracks have next to no waveform for some reason 🤷♂️

I don't see the cool pre-amp and channel type selector in my safire mix control - is that something you toggle on or off?
Why in my logic pro x...preferences I can't find recording menu ? Thanks..
how do you create a folder and quick swipe comp in Logic Pro 10.4.2 ? I don't see the little line to edit.
Is there any possible way to go back to previous takes on one track ( something like a pool in Cubase ) and reuse them? Does anybody knows how to that, if at all, in Logic? I made a mistake and I've deleted some takes and I don't know what to do. The undo doesn't work at this point. Thanks!!

How do u add automatic crossfade when u comping ?
what happens to all the takes after you comp them...does Logic delete the orig files? (that would be preferred)
Cross fades are not automatically added to my comps when i am editing? Any idea why anyone?
Is it just me or Metallica Now we are death and that riff of yours sounds fairly similar? I wonder who inspired who?

Also, anybody ever tell you you sound like Jason Newsted? Lol.
To reduce latency, you can go to audio preferences and lower the buffer size
@@tepetti yeh, when recording have buffer size like 32 or 64, then have it max when mixing

Does creating a composite track work the same with vocals?
What benefit is there to Flatten and Merge, rather than just keeping the take folder there?
How to make a 2 waves in 1 track?
Can you record multiple channels at once. For example if I want to record a keyboard and singing at the same time. Can you do that?
What if you don't get the comp option on the top, but only the recorded tracks? I check the settings and they seem to match what was shown.
For double tracking, can you just copy the "left" track and put it into the "right"?
Nope, you need to have at least 2 good takes to put on the left and right. It's the subtle differences between 2 takes that create that sense of space in between.
Setting up my Electric Guitar I get a signal going to the strip but the only sound I am getting is highly distorted noise. I used the amp designer and it makes no difference. what am I doing wrong?
When I add a distorted amp I get constant static (without even playing) how do I fix this??
Try adding a Noise Gate
How do you get the "little bar" you refer to at 20:50 . it doesn't automatically appear for me like it does for you.
When the takes folder track is selected the line icon should automatically appear when hovering over the two takes under the composite track which is on top (in the tracks original position). Hope that helps!
