    Really enjoyed the video! My number one tip is to read the online manual. In Logic you have a world class piece of highly developed software and you are denying yourself of it's (and therefore your own) potential if you are bluffing your way through on a few CZcams videos. The manual is online, free, broken up into bite size pieces, searchable, cross-indexed and up to date.

    I completely suck with technology, even the most basic functions are a challenge to me. I always figured id hire an engineer and my job would be to write and record... Well it didn't work like that so I found myself scrolling CZcams and watching hours of tutorials and "how to" videos. soon I learned for every 1 helpful video there's 10 that are not helpful at all.. im so glad I subscribed to your channel ur a major help through this difficult journey. Almost every question I have, there is an answer in your videos. Your page is my first stop every time I have a question I don't even bother with the CZcams search results anymore. I appreciate your help and I will defiantly be telling my friends to subscribe as well, thank you

  • @cjoth

    @9:52 when you said you can't undo volume, you actually can.. Just press Command+Option+Z to open Undo History, and enable "Mixer" in "Include Parameters Changes From: Mixer | Plug - In", and now wallah, Cmd+Z undos the volume! because "Volume" is integrated in the "Mixer". I enabled both the "Mixer" and "Plug-In" for extra convenience :) sorry if someone already mentioned it, but I'm too lazy to read the comments.

    Here are the tips:
    0:45 - 1. You can control automation on MIDI channels. Open Piano roll press "A" to bring up automation
    1:59 - 2. Use Track Alternatives - Right click on track header choose Track Header Components > Track Alternatives
    3:43 - 3. Flatten Your Takes
    4:37 - 4. Advanced Tools - Find Under "Preferences > Advanced"
    6:18 - 5. Option+Click+Drag copies things on drag.
    6:56 - 6. Bounce In Place - truncates MIDI to audio. (And other stuff) Select regions then Control+Command+B (or access via right click)
    8:25 - 7. Adjust Metronome Settings
    9:34 - 8. Option+Click to reset values (Faders, Pan, Etc.)
    10:20 - 9. Make similar channels output to a Bus (He's talking about making sub groups for vocals, instruments, Drums, etc.)
    12:25 - 10. Use "Latch" Mode for automation (Latch keeps writing the last setting once you stop moving.)
    13:37 - 11. Use region editor. Good for reversing, pitch stuff
    16:34 - 12. SMTP Lock - locks to time stamp instead of bar/beat grid
    17:57 - 13. Create Custom Presets - Channel Strip chains, Bus FX, so on.
    18:49 - 14. Vintage EQ Plugins
    20:55 - 15. Strip Silence - Control+X to bring up the Strip Silence Window.
    21:48 - 16. Use Flex Pitch to Change the Gain (of Vocals) Better than automation in some cases.
    22:57 - 17. Alchemy Synth is really good,

    Someone may have already mentioned this but instead of using the scissor tool for your secondary tool I find it's way more useful to use the marquee tool. The Marquee will technically is a scissor tool! Just command click and it will slice right where you click and for even more efficient cutting if you click and drag and then click again it'll create two cuts for you in one smooth motion. This is also great for adding automation points very quickly as when you drag and click it'll automatically create four points for boosting or reducing automation values! Incredibly powerful and compared to what just the scissors can do alone

    • @NathanJamesLarsen
      @NathanJamesLarsen  Před 3 lety +5

      Yes! I have tried multiple times to get into a workflow with the Marquee tool but never could get super used to it to be honest. I totally get it is more of an all around tool but I've been using scissors for literally years that it's tough to break it and get into a new habit haha! Maybe I'm lazy LOL!

    • @iamdannywyatt
      @iamdannywyatt Před 3 lety +4

      Nathan Larsen if you get used to the Marquee you will make another video of “I wish I knew this when I started using the scissors” 😉 you can do pretty much the same thing with the marquee and maybe 5-6 other things. If you select a section in between 2 bars and hit the Repeat shortcut, it repeats that section. Useful for when you have a region that’s not aligned to the grid but you want to make an exact copy and keep the position. The same can be applied to copy-paste. Select the section, hit copy, go to the beat where you want to paste it, click with the marque to set the “in” point and hit paste. That’s it 😊 and there’s more...

    Hi Nathan. Millard Randolph Curry here from Central Arkansas. I just finished watching this video and was super impressed. I was turned on to you by Charles Cleyn, in my opinion, a very talented, great presenter, in a relaxed way of producing his tutorials. I must say you are more energic and move along at a nice pace. In fact, I was so impressed that I gave you a thumbs up, clicked the subscribe button, and clicked on the personalized notification bell. I'm looking forward to more of you sharing nifty tricks & tips. I came from the days of Logic Express several years ago, in fact, I still love & use it. However, I have 10 to 12 upcoming recording projects that should keep me busy for the next 5+ years. Being retired now, I have all the time I need to get it done before I kick the bucket. Hopefully, my 30+-year-old daughter can continue reaping the benefits of my life's work. Thanks for the info & great tutorial. I learned several new techniques. Keep Up The Good Work Nathan. I'm look forward to learning more from you as time goes by. Take care & keep'em comin'!!!
