Great to see someone fixing old German luxury cars themselves! I subscribed to your channel ages ago but CZcams must have unsubscribed me - now it looks like I have a lot of catching up to do!
Hi Dave, Thanks for your video on the console repair. I also own a 2001 740i and love it. Owned it for 19 years now. And, on a different subject, as you probably know the air conditioning on this car can be extremely musty and produce fowl odors. Have attempted to unsuccessfully fix the problem long term. Have you ever resolved this odor issue. If so, I'd really, really like to know the answer. I've been struggling with this for well over 10 years. Any help would be very appreciated. Thanks much for your help, Alan
Just sold mine finally. Parts are getting hard to find now. But to answer your question I never had an odor problem. I had replaced the carbon intake filters in the hood and all the carbon cabin filters but always had clean air. My guess is you have something bad in the condensation tray. I did have a rat die in the air duct of my wife's car.
It's amazing the mythology that BMW created in selling these vehicles. Tha plastic is so cheap and unreliable, (timing chain guides) and the poor quality of many parts are consistent with every 2001 740i, (consistently bad). You really have to be a "fan" to keep one, (costly to repair) and be able to DIY.
And still; can't find any "worthwhile" video on this as this video is ridiculous in not showing all that was done. Sorry, but I wanted to take the whole mid console out.
Thank you sir, it had been years since I had to remove this and had forgot how it was removed.
Most welcome!

When I saw plastic on the floor from the wheel well liners I said enough. Get behind the wheel of a Volvo XC40 R design!
I always heard that BMW stands for "Bring Money With ya" =)
U B correct which is why I always try to repair things myself. But have to expect things to break after 18 years...
Brings Me Woman
I also drive BMW. Not as new as Dave ofc.
