Kind of.....proving the bosses point there (just a little bit)

This song can be interpreted as a surprisingly well-crafted metaphor about the inevitability and uncertainty of death.
The "chicken duck woman thing" aka "that beast" can be interpreted as the frighteningly unpredictable, but ultimately inevitable circumstance that awaits us all, beginning with the death of loved ones then our own death. This interpretation is reinforced by the account of the father's death in trying to "fight" death but still getting his face ripped off, as well as the sudden death of the "crispy bodies by the door." The verse "I used to ride ... pray I don't find what I don't want to find, waiting for me 'round the corner..." further reinforces the uncertainty and prospect of unavoidable tragedy waiting to strike at any moment. The desert hobo worries about this all day and every day, and is essentially trying to teach Narrator to be prepared for the day - "could be hiding behind that scrap pile." Towards the end, the Desert hobo reminisces of a dead but once cherished relationship "I ain't had to back for a girl in a long time...I've got her picture in my photo-wagon" as well as the realization of the likelihood that she would still want a relationship with him: "She'd probably love to honky tonk..." He realizes it's too late for him now, as he's an old desert hobo with not much time left, but he can still show Narrator the way to not make the same mistakes he did.
Ever considered going to therapy?

I come here and listen to this song atleast once a year. It has a special place in my heart. First time I heard this was on a class trip in the Austrian mountains. We had no internet in the isolated log cabin we lived in and no cellphones where allowed, but someone brought one anyways. only thing he had downloaded where bad lip reading songs, making them the only music we had and damn we heard them alot, to the point where we knew them word for word and sung them as if it was the last time we'd ever sing anything. snow everywhere, the most beautiful days of my life so far. Beautiful nature, lovely ppl and experiences that altered my character in alot of ways. I already finished school a year ago, but I feel like I am still not ready to leave it behind.
