Another great video! I'm still amazed at how favorably the Vangoa compares to your Taylor in tone and sound quality. There's obviously tonal differences, the Taylor seems brighter, but the Vangoa really has some low end growl combined with the octave sparkle. Regarding the tunes themselves, it was cool to see some lesser-known hits in the countdown. You should do an alternate universe video where Harry Chapin, Jim Croce, Gordon Lightfoot, Cat Stevens, Joan Baez etc used twelve strings instead of six. It would make their signature songs sound a lot different.
Vintage Thrifter: Gordon Lightfoot has always played twelve string capoed 2nd fret. All his online videos have him on twelves. I got to see him in person last March. Played a twelve string the entire concert, capoed on two, and he's over eighty years old!
Really enjoyed your playing today (and always) Mark. Was there any special reason you picked the guitars that you did for certain songs? I noticed the Taylor got the most exposure, but that is a really great sounding git-fiddle! I liked the clip-on pickup you used, too, but couldn't make out the brand. Anyway... super great job as always! Sorry I couldn't get here when it started. But I'm still a big fan!
Hey James. Please don't apologize. I REALLY APPRECIATE all the time and support you've given me and the channel over the years. The Vangoa sounded great last week but I just put new strings on the Taylor and I bought a used UA Apollo Twin. I'm not sure if you're familiar with the Universal Audio stuff but the plug ins are based on all of their classic vintage gear. Some of the stuff is great. I just slap a template on everything. LOL. I believe I recorded 16 tracks out of the 20, all but two on the Taylor. I liked the way the Vangoa sounded on Over the Hills. All but a couple were done live, many in front of the camera and a few I dubbed (not the tracks, just the playing over the live track for the video). Thanks so much! Mark
I rarely set anything up but I did do a pretty significant adjustment to the neck of the Taylor this week. I change my strings often. I've become very proficient at it. My current record is 4:45 off and on for an electric with locking tuners, 6:30 for an acoustic (it takes just as much time to take them off as it does to put them on, and I forget what my 12 string time is. I believe it's around 14 minutes. I've never really cared that much about string selection until recently (brand I mean, I'm very picky about gauge). The Ernie Ball Silk and Steel Soft are the best. They are so much easier on the fingers. Between teaching, practicing, playing, recording, and making videos, I play a lot. It really helps. Thanks so much for your time and encouragement. I hope you have a great week. Mark
@@8MinuteAxe Hi Mark. Thanks for the detailed reply. That’s really quick string changing! I’ll have a look at getting those strings. All the best. Mark
Have we talked about it? When I was a freshman in college, my roommate would periodically pick a song to play for 24 hours straight. The only three that I remember for sure were Taxi, Dirty Work, and The Wizard. I know that song better than anybody should. So spoke the Wizard from his mountain home, the vision of his wisdom means we'll never be alone. Brings back great memories. Thanks!! I will definitely do it soon. Enjoy the rest of your week. Mark

Awesome playing, Mark! I saw your post on Facebook and now you've got me all motivated! Do I win a guitar now? LOL J/K It was well worth it to visit your channel and subscribe. You have a new fan here :-)
Hey! I usually put the capo on the same fret as the original. If I'm singing, I will change it sometimes depending on the song. For instance Hotel California is a 7th fret capo but I don't sing like Henley so I play it with a 6th fret capo on a good day, usually at the 5th. LOL. Thanks so much for checking out the video.
Mark
hi mark - have you done the intro to uriah heep's the wizard, yet? a nice 12 string sound would be be great fit, cheers!
Mark

#2 Crazy on you on on 12 string?? Have you played the whole thing before? I need to search through your videos just in case. (I am not sure I fully understand the contest, but this is my second video of the day.?
Awesome playing, Mark! I saw your post on Facebook and now you've got me all motivated! Do I win a guitar now? LOL J/K It was well worth it to visit your channel and subscribe. You have a new fan here :-)
Interesting that the higher up on list list you went, the higher the proportion of songs which were actually played on a 12-string.
nice. how do you know when to use a capo?
I really appreciate it. Mark
Don Henley wants his 12 cent.
I'm surprised your nemesis Din Henley hasn't appeared from a puff of smoke to demand you take this video down! Lol, he has more lawyers then you!
Funny you mention it Brett. I had to cut HC in half. I got a claim. LOL. He's there, just lurking behind the scenes...with his 60 henchmen!!
