Personally I would have "still you turn me on" by Emerson, Lake and Palmer in the top five.
Nope no greenday
Bro, the spongebob campfire song song? It's in the name!
You guys that are doing these videos need to highlight more on the drum machines if they have one. I would have bought a new practice amp by now however it's taking longer because no-one ever discuss's the drum effects, just say'en!!!!!!!!!!!
It was almost sacrilege to play Led Zeppelin on a Rickenbacker. When we all know he used a Fender 12 string electric to play them in studio. On stage he used the Gibson double neck.
I like 12 string,
I think I'm going to learn good riddance now.
I really like mine , I’m amazed at the sound it puts out and features , I my only complaint is that I have trouble uploading the firmware, I gave up and use it like it came, I’m a BASS player anyway, but when I want to jam on my Les Paul, it’s enough for me. F
Thanks for the great review and the great playing.
So a Squier 12 with locking tuners….
Both sound okay. The Spark seems more convenient and needs less devices to get different sounds
Livin Lovin Maid is one of the very best!
Agreed. I just watched a video by some guy that listed Jimmy Page as the 4th most overrated guitar player ever. Needless to say, I clicked away from the video. Thanks so much for checking out the video. I really appreciate your time and comment. Enjoy the rest of your week. Mark
Too much talk, don’t have time to hear what I already know.🀄️
I appreciate you checking out the video and for your honesty. The poor execution of the rif doesn't help the video. This was like the fourth video I ever made. Thanks so much. Mark
@@8MinuteAxe Glad you read the response as it was intended :constructive criticism. All too many of these videos tell you repeatedly, what you are about to see:so frustrating. My standard:if it is more than three minutes and I keep hearing what I’am to then I consider it “click bait “,so I move on.🀄️
Hey, Mark. I've been forgetting to sign up for the Vangoa package giveaway, and that makes me sad. Is this how you do It? Leave a comment? Ok, to the meat of the comment: Led Zeppelin's Jimmy; Beatles' John, Paul and George: David Gilmour; Jimi, sometimes, and my personal favorite, Alex Lifeson; and of course the master of the 12 - Leo Kottke, all took the listener/wannabe player/pro - twelver to new heights of the Tower of Sound. And you can play them all. Good job. Love the channel, and maybe you can start another channel. Maybe, lessee . . . 12 Minute Axe? Good day to you, Sir, and I wish you and yours the very best. P.S. Eff Don H.
You're entered for this month! I saw Leo last year in Atlanta. He can't play the 12 anymore. I really appreciate the kind words. Have a great evening. Mark
Ventura V-697 was a beautiful sounding guitar, after many years of playing it, It was stolen from me, Miss It So much, I haven't been able to find anything that sounds as good, I've felt musicly crippled ever since, was my Best Friend for 34 years.😢
Hey Larry. Could the guitar just be on vacation? I'm trying to make you smile, not rub it in. That sucks. Maybe it's time to treat yourself to a new one that you've always wanted. I appreciate you checking out the video. Please take care and be well. Mark
Maybe a good eq pedal would get it in a closer ball park. The 12 had strong mids and highs. The PRS pickup is producing a lot of bass frequencies.
That's a great point. It's funny, because I have at least three videos in which I talk about the importance of using an eq pedal. Sometimes the answers are right in front of my face. Thanks for weighing in! Mark
That’s what makes this an awesome community. Oh, don’t forget a decent compressor pedal. @brainstorming Cheers. Maybe we can get an updated video. Many 12 string emulators are here in 2024 now.
Are you getting the new one?
Honestly, I've done 5 spark videos and they've all performed exceptionally well and they still haven't sent me a free one. I asked at the NAMM show and they said they'd look into it. They send them to youtubers much smaller than me (please don't take that as arrogance, I realize how lucky I've been and I am very grateful). I have the smaller one that's portable. Sounds great too. Thanks so much for watching the video. I do appreciate it. Please take care. Mark
Solid choices, all. And all nicely done! 60's music is kinda my home base; it's when I transitioned from classical to pop. I knew about half of these; Hazy Shade of Winter I do a little differently, but I like your arrangement and will have to learn it now :-) Thanks, Mark! Fred
Hey Fred. I was going to say long time no talk but that's on me. I haven't been able to answer comments lately and I'm just not willing to automate the most important aspect of the whole thing. I was having trouble with fretting after an open note and getting some buzz. My arrangement is a matter of necessity. :)
Good teaching ! Thank you .
I really appreciate you taking the time to let me know that. Five years ago this week I made my first video which was the out of focus version of this one. Have a great week! Mark
Great job. Another excellent video.
Very much appreciated. I've been terrible with the comments lately. I'm going to recommit. Thanks for the support. Know that it is appreciated. Take care and be well. Mark
One better than the other. What a pleasure! Grazie.
Hey Carlo. I really appreciate that. My family is from Abruzzo. I've never been but my wife and I are starting to talk about it. Thanks so much for the kind words. Mark
I'd dump The Joker for Tequila Sunrise in a heartbeat. You can never go wrong with any crowd playing an older Eagles song. They resonate with everybody. But picking just 5 songs ends the campfire before the first log is half done.😂 The list should be as long as the night lasts.
Hey Daryl. For sure. I agree. Sometimes it comes down to necessity. I really do try to make every video exactly how I feel but every now and then I need a layup. LOL. Thanks so much for the comment. Know that it is appreciated. Take care. Mark
So good to hear someone sing the praises of the 12-string guitar. I think it is not being used enough. I love the sound of it. It is really harder to play, though, as you pointed out with the "donut" tip.
Hey Kees. I've done about 120 videos on the 12 string (a little more than half the videos on the channel). I've thrown myself into it completely. I'm even learning Wabash Cannonball on the 12. About 1/4 of the speed of Buster B Jones. LOL. Thanks so much. Mark
If I was going to go with a cheap electric 12 string it would be the Danelectro single coil version. I have both the 360 Rickenbacker and Dano and love them both, but the Ric feels a little more special and is more inspiring.
Hey Bushido. You know, I have 15 12-string guitars now and I don't have a Dano. They were supposed to send me a demo version last year and then I saw the rep at NAMM this year and she blew me off. I've owned two Dano 6 strings. They always feel kinda cheap to me but who knows. I love my squier strat and I love my Taylor 562. I love guitar I guess. Thanks so much for checking out the video. I do appreciate your time. Take care. Mark
I hear what you’re saying, but the Dano 12 doesn’t feel that cheap to me. You should definitely give one a try. I like the metal but they use and it does sound great. Thanks for making the video!
Not really carbon fiber, it is just a composite. 2 totally different things.
I know. It's broken down into two camps. There are the $2k and up guitars and the $250 to $500 guitars. It's 100% carbon fiber composite. LOL. I reached out to them. I don't hawk anybody's guitars and I've never been paid for a review (at 50k subs the going rate is $600 to $800 for a full video and $250 for a 45 second preroll, not enough money to sell my soul for). Thanks. Mark
@@8MinuteAxe Carbon fiber composite only means that it has ground up carbon fiber mixed with a polymer. That does not make it a carbon fiber guitar, it's just a selling trick to make people believe it's something that it's not. A true carbon fiber guitar is made of carbon fiber cloth which is what gives it it's strength. I know this because I used to work with fiber glass and carbon fiber for a living. That makes it a 100% plastic/composite guitar.
Even with EQ, the sound is unnatural compared to a real amp, or higher end modeler. High gain is worse on the Spark than any Line 6 Spider amp. It's clearly an issue with the actually speakers of the Spark 40.
It's a $250 practice amp that sits on my desk and does a reasonably good job of getting sounds I need when students spring random songs on me during a lesson. LOL. I was a kid in the mid 80s when Peavey (the OLD Peavey) was the only option at my local store. I had the Renown. Piece of crap. Everything sounds good compared to that. I will say though, a lot of people on here (I'm not talking about your comment) talk a lot about speakers and voicings and they don't gig. I've done maybe 900 to, heck I have no idea, 900 is a good guess and nobody in the audience has ever complained to me about the way my speakers sounded. I only do solo acoustic shows now and maybe 4 gigs a year with full bands. I've joined the vast majority of youtube guitar players that just sit in front of a camera. Too bad many of them will never get the joy of a great gig. :)
@@8MinuteAxe Yeah I'll be real, I plugged my Spark in for the first time in months, and it wasn't as bad as I remember. Katana or any equivalent is still better for the price though.
First time, yes The Beatles, the Chicago with: If you leave me now , that's the song that got me real good!
Hey Alex. Too funny, I just recorded a live version of Beginnings this evening on the 12. Thanks so much for checking out the video. Much appreciated. Mark
Hell yeah
Hey Josh. It's a nice guitar. I didn't get paid to do the video. I won't. :)
I've been a wild rover. Proud Mary. Heart of gold. Satisfaction. Bad Leroy Brown. And of course too many chords.
Hey Andriess. All great songs. I redid this with 10 songs and I believe the only one that made both lists was Country Roads. Shows you how fickle I can be. :) Thanks! Mark
How can the "BRITISH BYRDS" STARRY EYED AND LAUGHING be left out?
LOL. I start going that deep and I have to include the first Harmonium album too. French Canadian band that released one of the best albums of 74 with huge 12 strings all over it. Or how about the Comfortable Chair? Be me, see me. I believe SEALs album came out in 74 as well? The lead singer tried too hard to sound just like Roger. I actually got an email from him a few years ago. I did a train wreck of a video called the Riff That Made the 12-String Famous about Mr T man. It was based on an article and the video got 900k views. I had to explain myself to about 1000 people as to why it wasn't Walk Right In (I did a video and full cover of that one too). It was simply a quote from Dick Burke from Rickenbacker. Anyway. Thanks for weighing in. Mark
The intro sound is the intro of No Mercy by YjM
I'm sure you know that Reelin in the Years came out 20 years before No Mercy? Elliott Randall went right into the board. :)
Scratch that. Into a bass amp. oops.
I know this song but I can't remember the name or artist. Can anyone help me?
Reelin in the years Steely Dan
@@stuartgraham8946Thanks mate! 🍺
Elliott Randall used a strat into an ampeg bass amp. :). thanks for checking it out. I appreciate it.
Thanks Stuart. :)
Where do you buy Harley B guitar????
Hey Jack. Thomann music in Germany sells them. It's their brand. They literally have EVERY guitar knocked off. I even have a knock off of the Gibson doubleneck. LOL. Thanks.
2:15 that's what it's all about
When I get comments like this I always wonder why people would watch a youtube video if they just want to hear music. This was like the 3rd video I ever did but these days I'll play guitar for 8 minutes and do a 45 second intro and one of of every 500 comments will be :45. Am I supposed to start the video, here's the riff that made the 12 string famous and then play it and then say thanks? What's the point if you don't want background. I don't mean you per se. And I'm not upset or criticizing you. Heck, I appreciate your time whether you like it or hate it. Either way, I'm grateful. Yours may be justified. I do yap a little too much in this but I didn't know how to do a video. I do cliffs on dover in a video and in this one I can't even play 5 simple notes without choking them out. LOL. Thanks. Mark
Tommy was the album that got me wanting to play the acoustic guitar! Rock on! 🤘😎🎸
I LOVE Tommy. I like it better than Who's Next. Much better that Quad. Great stuff. Great production. Great performances. Music will never be like that again. sucks. ")
Great video!
As much as I want to thank you for the kind words right now I'm hung up on the fact that I have no recollection of making that thumbnail. I wish more of my thumbnails were more creative. I'm grateful for your time and comment. Have a great day. Mark
@@8MinuteAxe you’re very welcome! We all learn and grow! Still working on my CZcams thumbnails myself! It’s an art in and of itself. 👍🏻
Nice!
Hey Lance. I really appreciate the kind words. Or kind word as the case is period LOL. Enjoy the rest of your week. Mark
Wow. The EQ works great. Super happy w my tone using the Blues Amp, EQ, my jazz gtr. Fantastic. I plan on getting the cab, they say they fixed the hum issue.
They've done a great job with all of the products that they put out . I have heard from a few people that the customer service is not what it used to be which is typical for companies that grow too fast they either don't have the infrastructure or they don't care anymore. I've heard good things about the cab. Thanks so much for checking the video out I do appreciate your time. Enjoy the rest of your week. Mark
That's what I do on Bass too.
I've only been in professional Studios five or six times to record my own albums. I'm not good enough for real session work but I've heard that bass players usually take down the strings when they're playing specific Parts on sessions to keep it really clean. I actually used that method when I made my Van Halen tribute video because I couldn't play the Riff to ain't talkin about love perfectly without removing a little string noise. Thanks so much for checking out the video. Mark
Oh, I was expecting "... but when I do, I use Straploks!"
Touche Michael! :)
Careful! He might have a "no backwards playing either without paying clause". I've not heard anything by the Eagles or members in years, but all the other well known bands from their time, plenty of reminders from little videos pop up. Even one hit wonders get more attention , and plays on subscription music services and maybe even sales because they won't be forgotten so easily from no exposure. Maybe if I listened to radio anymore I might hear them, or if I still had any Cds (it would have been vinyl though, back when I ever liked them). Oh well. Oh, wait, I do get some Joe Walsh and James Gang stuff.
Hey Michael. I used to always joke, does anybody really need to hear Magic Man ever again. FM radio killed Steve Miller, Heart, and several others. Take care. Mark
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👍🏻👍🏻 I may have watched this when it came out? You did a great job Mark!
I appreciate it Jim. I must be getting better finally. Because I revisit stuff from last year and I can play it with more feeling and less effort. The practice is finally paying off. :)
Hard to believe you listened to all that Cream while this was going on! I had a buddy who listened to nothing but Aerosmith in the 80s. I introduced him to music and he’s now in an 80s cover band
Everything changed the day my brother brought home the blue and the red album (the two Beatles greatest hits albums)
Do you have the total dimensions of the case? I wonder, how would it be carried in a plane, fees for excess luggage, etc.
I'm gonna go measure it right now....45 x 21 x 4.5 weighs 30lbs. It would be over the 62 linear inches max that airlines allow BUT musical instruments have different standards. You'd be fine. You'd have to check it but it would cost more. I hope that helps. Take care and travel safely. Mark
@@8MinuteAxe Thank you!

You always ask us to suggest a 12 string classic that you might have overlooked. I stumbled onto this classic this morning that you might want to check out: "Question" by the Moody Blues.. czcams.com/video/kXMADvPoa5g/video.html

Civil war buff. I am a huge American history buff. Have you read Doris Kearns Goodwin's Team of Rivals or David Herbert Donald's bio of Lincoln. Both exceptional. I've done Question a few times now. This video opens with it. czcams.com/video/6duHamC62nA/video.html&ab_channel=8MinuteAxe. I hope you enjoy it. Thanks so much for checking out the videos and supporting the channel. I sincerely appreciate your time. Enjoy the rest of your week. Mark
The rock and roll era is over? That is the mast asinine statement I have heard this week.
I don't know what mast asinine is but I do appreciate you checking out the video. If you think the mainstream music being put out these days is Rock and roll, all the power to you. Personally, I think the nu metal of the 2000s (which I'm not a big fan of) was the last gasp. I've been at NAMM the last couple of years and it's great to see all the new young bands still churning it out but they aren't getting deals. Drugdealer, Tennis, Deerhunter, and a few other bands are making new music that is at the same time derivative and original (which most of the great music of the rock era is, we stand on the shoulders of giants in our finest moments). I'm guessing you're a Swiftie or however you spell it. Three chords and a capo and a melody following the root. Hit me up with some new bands that are getting airplay or are making inroads on the national scene and convince me otherwise.
Great, the sound is really good 😊
Thanks so much. I appreciate your time and comment. Enjoy the rest of your week. Mark
Thanks I’m gonna have to learn the rest of that song now
