I'm 72 and have been listening to Kenny since I was in my teens when he was in the First Edition! He's not with us in body anymore, but he left a legacy that few will ever achieve! He was one of the good ones! RIP Kenny!

Love Kenny Rogers music from when he was with the First Edition (60's-70's) to his solo career. He was a great story teller in many of his songs like "Coward Of The County" & "The Gambler". He had so many hits "Lucille", "She Believes In Me", "You & I", "Ruby, Don't Take Your Love To Town" etc. He did a lot of duets such as with Kim Carnes "Don't Fall In Love With A Dreamer", with Sheena Easton "We've Got Tonight" & with Dolly Parton "Islands In The Stream". He also did quite a few duets with Dottie West.

Lionel and Kenny collaborated on "Lady" when Lionel chose Kenny to sing that song, and then he started producing Kenny's songs. This one definitely sounds like a Lionel produced record.

Lionel and Kenny weren’t just friends. Very good friends. They really loved each other like brothers. They vacationed together etc. Lionel refused the first several request to be interviewed after Kenny’s death. He was polite and everyone wanted to know all the details and knew that Lionel would know. Lionel sent out a message. I will share my feelings and thoughts on Kenny soon but as of right now I can not , it hurts to much and I am in mourning. I thought that was cool……just please give me some time.

Kenny was able to sing in a way that touched women's hearts not unlike Humperdict and Jones. Now, given the lyrics of this beautifully romantic song, women, young and old, weep at hearing it so wonderfully performed. Young women weep because the song represents what they all seek and pray, yet older women shed tears and give praise for the recognition of the life they have been blessed to lead. I also think that it is important that a man like Rogers performed this romantic song because many men feel this way but struggle to say it or express it in any way that is as romantic as Rogers though we, regular, untalented and not very handsome men try. More romantic songs are difficult to find and greater performers than Rogers are also. I'm very glad y'all have continued to learn about Kenny and the value of great music and its commentary on life, love, devotion and passing.

My mom was in Vegas playing poker at a table in a casino, And she kept hearing them play Kenny Rogers songs throughout the casino because at that time that Kenny Rogers was just starting to become really famous ... They were playing the songs like the gambler, coward of the county etc
Well, after playing poker for a couple hours with this gentlemen with a mustache and full beard and wearing a cowboy hat - the man had decided he was finished playing poker .. he got up and he said goodbye to everyone at the table ... and it was THEN my mom and her friend realized that they had actually been playing poker with the KENNY ROGERS !!
My mom was like Omg ! We have been playing poker with Kenny Rogers this whole time ! No wonder they we're playing all these Kenny Rogers songs ! They found out that he was actually performing and staying at that hotel.
She said he was so good looking, very polite, soft spoken - and was such a down to earth kinda person - had she had known it was him, she would of asked for his autograph ...

top 3 Fav KR song for me. This is my mom's favorite. I grew up with KR on the radio all the time, my mom just adored him. So everytime I hear Kenny and this song specifically, it makes me think of her.

Cool fact... Kenny's mother used to live here in Crockett, TX. He loved Crockett but couldn't live here due to his work. In the Senior Citizens Center where his mother frequently went, there was a "Kenny Rogers room" that was full of his pictures and memorabilia.

This song’s lyrics came from the pen of songwriter Marty Panzer. When he went over to collaborator Steve Dorff's house for dinner, he showed Dorff the lyrics in progress. They rushed over to the piano, and the rest is history.

I know this was a song that they used for a mega soap opera couple from the 80s--like Bo and Hope (Days), Cruz and Eden (Santa Barbara), Kelly and Joe, etc. I remember this being used in a couple montage from back then. Love this song and those montages. Sigh. 80s ballads are the best.
