It's depressing how few content creators have Fantasy AGE on their lists of great fantasy RPGs to play instead of D&D. I am so glad that you decided to cover it. I have loved the system since the Dragon Age ttrpg was coming out in the three separate box sets. The combat always felt more exciting to me, and it never felt too overwhelming to learn. I am stoked to finally preorder Fantasy AGE 2E on Monday!
Also, yes, personally, I would love to see you cover more AGE content!
I LOVE this game, the gaming group were hooked on it for months, almost completely replaced D&D for a while, so I am very happy to see a 2nd edition and will pick it up Automatically as soon as I heard about it, right here.
I'm excited to get it on a table soon!
The pre-order for the physical book and $5 pdf should go up on Monday so you can bet I will be jumping on that asap
So glad to see more folks enjoying this excellent game! I might be a little biased but this is one of the great games out there.
Yes! I have been a huge fan of the AGE system since its first incarnation in Dragon AGE.
I would love a more deep dive into the system and you to cover it more if you can.
I want to run a one-shot set in Freeport for some friends when I can.
I'm so excited for all the new stuff that is on the docket for FAGE2e
I'm excited too! Expect more to come!
@@TheGeekPantheon Excellent. I feel AGE doesn't get enough love so I was super happy when this video popped up on my feed.
So anymore covering you do for it is aces for me.
Glad to find others who love this system just as much as me
Please more AGE content. I'm so eager to try out 2nd edition.
I 100% want more Fantasy Age content.
The Peril Pool and Fortune is The Churn from The Expanse RPG they made and I LOVE that they ported it over to Fantasy AGE.
Please do more content. I am so happy to see this system get more love. I switched over from D&D after the whole OGL issue and I'm happy to say I'm never going back. My players fell in love with the stunt system. I know it can cause paralysis seeing all these stuntd at once but what I had my players do was that in session zero I had them see all the stunts and have them pick their favorites and made them an even shorter list. Every level progression they are able to review their stunts and add more or replace any they no longer use. Also homebrewing campaigns, magic items, and Specializations is super easy.
I am interested in the AGE system as a possible reduction in Analysis Paralysis, since our group plays Genesys - which has dice results that can include advantages or threats, triumphs, and despairs, all of which might need to be spent on various side effects of a roll. The stunt die looks like it has the strengths of that, without so many overwhelming options. More structured guidance.
I saw, in the first edition, many monsters were listed with their preferred stunts. Players also having preferred stunts could help reduce that analysis paralysis.
My partner isn't the biggest fan of TTRPGs. They tried 5e D&D and bounced off it hard. However, they enjoyed Fantasy AGE. I ran Titansgrave using the 2E playtest materials.
I am waaaay behind, but I was just talked into picking this up at a game store. I have not played it yet, but I really like the book and working to get a group together. Thanks for your review!
Yes more Fantasy AGE please!
Heck yea! I'm loving the fantasy age love
Expect more to come!
Would love a rules deep dive into this. Trying to work on presenting a game to friends and this seems like a good option.
Thanks for the Fantasy AGE 2nd edition review!
I'm really glad to see that they added the Fortune system first developed in The Expanse RPG and included it into Fantasy AGE 2e. It's honestly my favorite hit point system and is the inspiration for the Grit mechanics for the game system I'm currently developing, DtwenD.
As far as the stunt system is concerned, having opporunities randomly occur in combat that you can take advantage of is a nice alternative to performing combat maneuvers at a penalty...but I find its execution to be pace-breaking. "I got doubles! Time to consult the stunt chart and mull over which stunt(s) I want to use." That's the best-case scenario; it gets even worse when those stunt charts are not readily available for the players and/or the GM. And now they have class stunts? This is a case of "too much of a good thing ends up being bad for you."
Always been curious about this system. Your review convinced me to check it out. I'm curious to hear about power creep in Fantasy Age. It is an aspect of 5th edition that I'm really struggling with.
I checked out the TOC for the Fantasy AGE Companion (for those who don't know--it's like a Player's Handbook 2), and it looks like they imported the relationships mechanics into that 1st edition, even. They also had followers & mass battles mechanics.
More Fantasy Age content please!

Thanks so much for this video! I spent 3+ years running games in the Dragon Age TTRPG and I truly miss the system. Wanted to get some info before I purchase, which I've chosen to do. :D
As a GM, I would like to see more talk regarding actually running monsters/traps/encounters. I enjoy all the PC talk and options for players, that's important. But more than likely I will be the one bringing this game to may players, and since monsters are what I am running, I want them to be fun to run too. Are the monsters just stand there and be bags of hit points? Do they have unique, cool, CHALLENGING abilities for the PCs to overcome? Are there rules for generating new monsters, unique monsters, new abilities ect?
As my groups GM, I too really wanna know what this game is like behind the screen.
I'm really interested to see how the stunt, peril and fortune system interact! It's a little more codified than a familiar idea in the 2d20, where it becomes onerous for the DM to know when to use threat or how to set difficulty ratings.
I also played the Dragon Age system. I liked the system overall, but the stunt points did cause analysis paralysis and the combat dragged significantly as a result.
I'm interested to see how it goes once I get it on a table. One house rules I saw was that players could only pick one thing, and I think the GM created a 6 SP cost item on the stunt table. This helped speed things up because he found that most of the humming and hawing was over what to do with the last leftover SP after the player did what they really wanted to do.
@@TheGeekPantheon One of the options that is in the Companion for 1e is Stunt pools.
It means you can bank like 2 points that you aren't going to use.
The other thing is I find that unlike D&D where you declare what you are going to do in detail and then roll in FAGE you declare simply what you want to do (attack, use a ability etc) roll and then go into detail using the stunt points if you rolled any.
Rather than saying I'm going to disarm this guy and not rolling any stunt points to do.
They have added a option in to negate that type of situation but still. That's just my 2 cents
More please! 😀
I loved this system but always felt that the fantasy age iteration was under supported by GR. We want more modules and splash books.
I have played the first edition quite a bit, great game!
The maths are a bit screwy in Fantasy Age…otherwise I like it.
I ran FAGE. My players and I had fun.
But I did not like the layout of the rulebook. Very thin, and space was wasted on blocks of text describing what blankets and bowls are. The layout for minstrels was awful. Monster names appeared somewhere in the middle of descriptive text. And there were few monsters in the rulebook. And the monsters in the FAGE version of the monster manual felt were uninspired - and again, too few.
How is the layout with 2e?
Did you get a new shirt?!?! You look cute
Thanks! You bought it for me :D
@@TheGeekPantheon I have no recollection of that shirt but I believe you 😂
