This is awesome! I saw the notification on my phone and thought you were making a huge announcement đ€Ł
I also thought so but the mother in the thumbnail didnât look like Shaneâs wife đ
đ€Łđ€Ł No...no more kids for me đ
This is great, Shane. I am a big fan of showing unified SmartHome tech, automations, and scenes for specific rooms that folks can use to upgrade their rooms and/or to create new ideas for automations and scenes. Better still, it was a well timed release for a nursery video đ
Thanks Dr. Cole!
I get the feeling that you're a real sweet guy âșđ Also, was about to say congrats until I watched!
Using tech to help others is the best đ
What a fun video! Really glad to see Aqara being used. We're so happy with all of our Aqara products, you can't go wrong!
Thanks for watching Jeff!
Dude. You got me. The CZcams Notification I received totally had me all like "Are Shane & MzWhatley having a baby?!?!?!". :)
I would be watching regardless...but that thumbnail/notification was all manner of clickbait-ey. :) Well done.
Awesome video. Great content for Mother's Day!
Congrats to your friends. Great setup.
LOl honestly did not even think about that AT ALL! đ€Ł it never crossed my mind that people would think Iâm having another kid. Maybe because the thought is so far removed from my brain. No more kids for me!! đ
But it was really cool to do all the things that I WOULD do if I was having another now. I often say, âI wish I was in to all this smart home stuff when my kids were babiesâ.
@@ShaneCreates - LOL. Same here regarding more kidsâŠand knew when I saw the full-sized thumbnail that it wasnât you & MzWhatley.
But. Based on the tiny notification on the Lock Screen of my iPhone, I was like OMG. đ
Same here, I saw the video in my feed and was like, "oh sh*t, they're having another baby!" lol
Love it! The nursery is beautiful!! Great video
Thanks Mary!!
Really enjoyed the video. Perfect for being Motherâs Day. Did I spot a new tat on the back of your arm?
Please wish your wife a happy Motherâs Day from your smart home family. Iâve always appreciated her feedback on smart home tech.
Thanks for watching and for the well wishes! No new tats right now, but I think I am ready for a new one!
This is absolutely amazing!! I hope to do this someday when I have a kid!
The switchâs for light and fan can be done with Lutron caseta I have it that way and works flawless
Omg thatâs all awesome.
This is brilliant! I kinda want to do this too! Sounds like an awesome job actually to make homes smart đ
Super cool video. So glad you released this on Mother's Day. Very nice touch.
The only thing I would add right away is one of those White stick-on cord keepers on the wall to put the power cable in for the camera, and maybe the SwitchBot hub. That way it will be less likely to get snagged and pulled off and hit the baby by accident.
Thanks for watching Frederick!
Good idea on the cord organizers. I've been using some in the studio on a recent installation. I'll make sure the parents here are happy with the location of everything and don't plan to move anything around. Then I'll offer to add some of those.
Awesome video idea. The new smart nursery turned out very cool!
Thanks George!
You mean, "Dad, was a gamer.." đI game for a solid 30 minutes a week now after having a child.
I definitely want to see what you do with that ceiling fan. I have a dumb fan and my wife is buying a hunter HomeKit fan for kitchen thatâs already on a smart switch so that switch will have to stay on.
Thanks for the comment. Maybe thatâs something I can show in a future video. Seems like many people are faced with a similar dilemma.
I think I found a solution to the fan issue, lookup Meross MFC100HK
Awesome video. Iâd love to see more projects like this
Thanks!!
Shane, you're doing a great job man, i really enjoy the content.
đđŒ thank you for the support!
I have a smart nursery, Arlo baby monitor, HomePod mini for ambient sounds, smart plugs, a night light and Tado, but I wish I saw this video before my daughter was born around 2 years ago.
Nice video Shane!
Thanks for watching!
Awesome video Shane! Iâve been searching for something like this few months ago đ need to makeover my nursery nowđ
Damn you Shane lol
I would love to get an update in 100 days on how she likes the crib
As usual itâs a great vidĂ©o. But I was expecting more tips and features that could be used. I was expecting tips to build automations to receive alerts when the baby cries using sounds detection from the Aqara G3 camera for instance, cause the crib is amazing, but itâs expansive⊠to expansive for the most of us
Hey man whatâs up, Nice you did this. Our toddlerâs bedroom is smart room since birth. We do use arlo baby cam bc it has a nightlight and two way talk.
Thanks for watching! Glad to hear the Arlo baby cam is still a good option. It's been around for a while and I almost forgot about that one. Thanks for sharing!
Such a shame these cameras canât be used portable (like a baby monitor) due to the required connection to wifi
@@marck_ the Arlo is portable. It has a built in battery
I'm pretty sure it's been discontinued. I've been trying to get my hands on one for my baby due in a few weeks and no one sells is anymore. I bought a used one but it was bricked and Argo wouldn't/couldn't do anything about it.
@@kristinotto102 yupâŠ.I just did a big Google dive. Discounted and canât find it. A month ago I was able to find one on Amazon. Whatâs crazy is, itâs a great 2 way baby camera. Why In 5 years no one else has produced one.
Great video. Where did you get the wall plate that allowed for the two switches. 1 aqara and one regular. Thanks.
Got it from Lowes. Thanks for watching!
Nice setup. However Iâd avoid putting humidifiers in a house as if they are not thoroughly regularly cleaned and filtered water used, they can end up causing sinus issues and respiratory issues from the bacteria that breeds in constantly damp locations. The following is a quote from experts in these things.
âWhile moisture can be a positive thing, it also poses problems,â says Janice Nolen, an indoor air specialist and assistant vice president for national policy at the American Lung Association. âMoist environments provide a wonderful breeding ground for mold and bacteria.â If you neglect to clean your humidifier properly, it can quickly become a cozy incubator for germs-one that aerosolizes those microorganisms and mists them into the air you breathe, she says.
Thanks for the advice. I agree that the humidifier needs to be regularly cleaned. That's why I don't use them much in my home... mainly because I hate cleaning and maintaining them. I spoke with the father about this though, so they are aware that it needs to be cleaned regularly.
Love the video, Shane. Did I miss where you mentioned what temperature/humidity sensor that you installed on the wall?
Jup, thatâs the switchbot hub
@@pfr010 Thanks! I actually have the SwitchBot Mini Hub, but didn't realize the Hub2 had those new features. That's awesome.
I have an Aqara single box double switch fan/light switch that controls each separately that works rock solid. Iâve mentioned this switch numerous times before on your channel and live feeds. Please donât start them down the ever suggested Lutron Caseta $$$$ rabbit hole!!! Aqara has them covered!
The Aqara double rocker would still require the fan to be wired to a switch separately from the light.
I love Lutron Caseta. I also think Aqara is a great budget alternative. There are limitations with Aqara light switches though.
I guess I just assumed someone trying to use a Home app Home would wire things for that use instead of out of date pull chain use since most fans can be wired either wayâŠ. sorry my bad âŠ.
@@midgeta6864 that would require rewiring from the fan all the way to the switch. Most people arenât going to do that.
9:19 couldnât you use the HomePod mini for the temp and humidity?
I could, but the SwitchBot Hub 2 is likely more accurate. Plus it has the nice display and I needed the hub anyways to get the SwitchBot Blind Tilts into HomeKit.
May I ask why you did not use a single Matter / Thread devices like Eve and Nanoleaf, but rather went for zigbee all the way with Aqara?
I did use a Nanoleaf light bulb. I went with Aqara for the sensors because they are cheaper, and we wanted a camera in there anyways, which can act as the Aqara hub. Plus they work great. If they did not want a camera in there I might would have used Eve for the sensors and light switch.
@@ShaneCreates : Thanks for the precise to the point reply. I need the Thread support. I'm frustrated by ZigBee. Waiting for the Aqara Hub M3.
Plan to start having kids soon, but not sure a smart crib is worth 5-10x the price.
I like smart homes but I'm never gonna have a WiFi monitor for baby. Too easy to hack into by creeps, there are too many cases of it
Great info but I canât listen to it for more than a minute at a time due to the background music and bass thumping. I donât know why that needs to be there when youâre talking. (I listen on a fully calibrated home theatre system. Itâs a health issue for me. Kind of like the flashing lights problem people have only this is for sound.) Maybe that low bass thumping canât be heard by people on cheap headphones.
But, great info and great video.
