Expanding Dress Waist by THREE INCHES! Little bit of weight gain? No problem!

  • Hello friends! As many of us have been at home for the past couple of months, it is very normal to have put on a few extra pounds. Not a problem at all though! It's natural ... like hibernation! In today's vlog, a customer wanted me to expand the waist on her beautiful gown by 3 inches. She also requested that the job be reversible so that when she goes back to her pre-quarantine weight, it can still fit. This process is quite lengthy but I wanted you all to see that many things can be accomplished with alterations!

    The thing that I'm learning from watching your videos is that sewing is messy. I thought I was doing something wrong because when I would try to sew, I'd have fabric bunched up here and there, and things moving around, but when you watched the TV shows, everything was neat and pretty. So I thought I just totally sucked and couldn't do any of this. But now I see, you're for real! You're not just trying to make a video for cred, you're trying to help people and I can see that all the moving and twisting that I was experiencing was NORMAL! YAY!! So now I feel like I can try some more, now that I know I'm not doing something wrong.
    p.s. I love your videos!

      Thanks so much. Something very important I'd like to point out is that is very important to keep all your garment over the table. Otherwise it can get damaged with oil, dirt, caught with Something and get ripped, broken, etc. This is why you see the whole dress over the machine at all times. Just be sure to let it free. When working with bigger gowns I hang the dress so I have on the table just the part of the dress I'm working with. Or I use a chair as table extension. Cheers.

    I have always been told that adding inches was impossible. I’m glad to know that it can happen although it prob would onLy work for 3 inches or less.

      It's pretty much impossible most of the time. This customer was told that it wasn't possible on another two alterations stores. Sometimes we have to think out of the box. She was very happy with her dress!

    I’m familiar with this gown. I believe it’s a David’s. They usually add extra ribbon in zipper area. But as a rule David’s are impossible to let out. Ugh. Great job

    I am curious. Did you replace the waist ribbon? If not, where did the extra 3” come from on the ribbon.
    ALSO, can you possibly make a separate video on that zipper? I’ve never sewn a zipper that way.

      @jaelynrae6045 Před rokem +1

      @1:30 you can see that there was approx 2" of ribbon folded over on each end of the ribbon and sewn into the zipper area...so plenty of extra for this, it just won't fold over anymore and will end at the zipper.
