Excellent Tutorial. Thank you for sharing. I have a big bust and have such a hard time finding a dress that fits me. This is a great way to make the dresses fit my body.
Thank you. I'm glad it is helpful for you :D
I have the same problem. If the dress is longer than I prefer I can take off a couple of inches from the hem and then use this matching material to expand the sides of the bodice. If the dress has sleeves then you will need to make a shorter triangle insert in the sleeve where it connects to the bodice.
SO SO THANKFUL!!!!! I cannot explain how huge a blessing this is!! Absolutely love you!!!!!!
Thank you so much for the love 🥰
Her voice is so soothing relaxing. Undercover ASMR. Subscribed! ♡
Thank you very much … you just give me hope to fix 3 dresses that don’t fit me from my back!!!
Blessings!! ❤
Really helpful ! You explained everything easily! Thank you so much 💗
That's a great idea, I wish I had found this before I had already unstitched the zipper from my too-tight dress xD
A
Thank you so much-this is so clear and helpful!
The black layer may be interfacing, used to give body to the garment in specific places, or strengthen stitching.
Thank you sosososo much!! You saved my prom dress!!
Brilliant , even the fabric chices were fabulous
This looks great. I am still searching for how to make more room in the bust in dress with a side zipper. With the side zipper, there is nothing to be let out, and no vertical seam in the back to increase upon. Any ideas? Thank you!!
Excellent!! Just what I needed.
I got a new dress and my back is too big for it this is great
I love it I wish I can do that, but I can’t. Just wanted to show you some love.🦋
Thank you so MUCH for helping me with this same problem. I have a 1974 Gunnesax dress ready to make it fit. My sewing hobby has become my label Lavoie Boho if anyone wants to see the finished product. Merci beaucoup! Robin in NC USA 2024 (PS the insert is called a gusset and results in a football shape insert.)
Explained very well...I'm going to try this...x
Thanks for your beautiful tips
Thank you so much this was very helpful for me even though you posted 4 years ago. Thank you!
What a great tutorial 😊 Thank you*
Clever idea. 💐
I am glad this worked out so well for you! I also feel rather stupid since I got an older dress from a shop recently that fit perfectly everywhere but the bust and decided to change the zipper seams instead of the side seams. It just barely worked since it was a hidden zipper before with a wider seam allowance, but changing the side seams definitely would‘ve been easier. I will certainly use your method in the future 😂
Haha, that was my first thought too, but it would not be enough room if I let out more fabric from the zipper. 😋
Great video, thank you!
Aww, thank you, I'm glad you like it😃
Awesome DIY. I hit the red button :)
Thank you. And thanks for the hit :)
Omg this would be the life saver hack for me
Very useful thank you for sharing
Good idea! I usually get the zipper replaced with elastic if I can find a cleaners that does alterations, sometimes they give me a hard time about doing it. I’m gonna learn how to sew so that I can do this, dress looks really good I like the see threw fabric adds a little 🌶 to it lol.
Thank you!
You are a clever girl! I do not think a larger size dress would have worked either. It fit you in the waist
Hehe, thank you😝
The black layer inbetween could be vlies fabric. I can t really see it well but thats fabric that you press on to the left side of the fabric to make it a bit stiffer and stronger so it would probably be that, just cut through it and it shouldnt come off completely.
Great vid! =) you are very sympathisch and nice how you showed ever step. =)
Greatt
Thank you for the explanation for that fabric, mystery solved 😁. I appreciate your kind words❤️
Wow, thank you x
do you have any tips for upper bust alterations. I have these dress that fit the way I want them but the upper bust is just a bit tight. any ideas or videos on this would be very helpful
That really looks simple, and worked well. I was just wondering would it work with a dress with a deep V-neck cut. The dress that I want to alter fits everywhere except the bust. But, this gives me a starting line. Thank you!!
Thank you for the comment, my guess is it will be ok, but it is hard to tell without seeing the dress. Best of luck :)
I have a dress that is a little tight around the stomach area, but definitely not at the top. Can I also insert fabric in the middle or just add a rectangular piece instead of a triangle?
Perfect easy to do
My dress is full sleeved, do I have to add extra fabric to the sleeves too?
I love it!! Make more videos
Thanks 👍👍👍👍 for showing thanks
thank you!
waooo ab hm bhi ja rhe apne dress ko aisa krna 😁😁😁👏👏👏👏
Thank you.
Thanks so much
You are welcome :)
Dear Jenny, your tutorials are excellent. I've subscribed in the hope that you will make more videos to share your know-how with us. Thank you for your efforts.
I have a similar situation with my beautiful dress.. how much weight did you put on to dress to go that tight? I just want to know if I can lose that much weight instead of alterations
This is exactly the idea I had in my brain for upsizing a vintage jacket I got that's just a little too small. I dont Want to lose the overall shape of the jacket , I dont Want to change the back because it looks awesome as is. Inserting fabric under the arms should be easy enough and not loose the shape or damage the jacket it all
Sounds like a cool jacket, I like vintage too, good luck with project 👍❤️🙂
@@jennyw4629 Its a 1940s red velvet wasp waist tailored suit jacket with black braided trim 😍
Thank you!
Hallo Jenny,
sehr schöne Idee.

I just got a dress from someone and its a little tight, i might try this there us just one problem which is that it had long sleeves, does this still work then?
The black layer you are talking about may be lining for seams, etc.
I wish I could do this but I don't have a machine
I have a lace dress and was wondering if I could do this
Theoretically, yes. As long as you can rip out the seam without destroying the delicate lace.
Any idea how to do it if the dress having side zipper instead?
I think you might need to take out (half of) the zipper, insert fabric (since mesh can not hold zipper well), then sew the zipper on the new fabric. I'm just imagining this, not sure if it can be implemented. I hope if anyone read this can also share their ideas, thank you!🙏😊
Does this also work with sleeved dresses?
Perhaps not, in theory the sleeves would also need to be widened.
So you sew the extension only on lining you didn't make for dress main part part
Thank you! I have a dress that squishes my boobs and i cant breathe
Would this work on a dress without a zipper?
I think it can work.
its good if you use light color dress so wecan see better how you made it
Double or even triple the mesh. It wont be as see through
The black layer could be stiffening for the waist.
This looks so good..but I guess it wouldn't work for a long sleeve dress that have the same problem with
Thank you. I think you are right, I imagine the armpit of the sleeves will not work with this method, wish I could help.
@@jennyw4629 oh its OK. Maybe a corset instead of the zipper might help 🤔😊
@@TekilaCupcake you could use this method you would just need to remove the sleeves first and then sew them back on after your alteration is completed. Hope I'm not too late
Reneenee Young Thank you! Maybe I'll give it a shot 🙃
@@reneeneeyoung8932 That is clever!👍
very nice job, but maybe you could have doubled the mesh, still great job
👏
I love wearing dresses with a long back zipper
Me too, it is so convenient, isn't it?! 😊
Me too
I do bodybuilding now my super expensive dresses are all too small 😭
would be better to show how on a lighter fabric. x
These days there isn't very much material in the seems any more.
зачем для мастер -класса выбирать тёмную ткань?что зря : ни уму .ни сердцу
Wow good tip... what about flowy dress that dont have stretch material. Have zipper... i bought a dress today but cant return to shop as its in sale no return☹☹☹ i love it only size 10 but feel abit tight around my waist when i tried on at home. (Cant try it on in the shop). Feel stupid shouldnt have bought it tho 😒 im more like medium size. (10-12) UK
Time to lose weight/belly!! I think🙄
I hate your camera didnt show good what you did the top and bottom looks like you didn't have to make waist wider to match so should the wider part be at top I can't zipper my dress or should the wider part be at waist
or you could try taking your bra off? some of my dresses just won't fit if I wear a bra
