- This week we taking a look at a wedding dress we completed for Ashley!
Ashley fell in love with an Allure Couture wedding dress in blush at Ava's Bridal.
With her wedding in a few months, there was no time to order another size.
After shopping at several bridal salons in the DFW area, she knew this was HER dress!
Ashley said yes to the dress and trusted the process - wow!
It's terrifying to let someone do this level of work, but hopefully sharing these projects will show you how it's done and end result.

Every seamstress & alteration business has their own career path + customer service that make them a good fit for you.
When it comes to letting a dress out, here are a few tips!
1. INTERVIEW - Use a seamstress/tailor who communicates effectively, shows you their work and can give social proof.
2. EXPERIENCED - Seamstresses/tailors who specialize in bridal tend to have access to the materials needed to match and know how to make brides feel secure through the process.
3. FABRICS + SEAM ALLOWANCE - don't allow your seams to be vulnerable. Have ample seam allowance to allow the bride to sit, dance, and move without breaking delicate formal fabrics.
4. SAMPLES - the seamstress/tailor will be able to open your dress and show you what it will look like/feel like in the correct size (end result). Before investing into the labor, I recommend a small deposit to allow the seamstress/tailor to open your dress with the samples I show in stories on Instagram. We offer this service with our clients + they love it!

I knew it , I knew it and I knew it ! ...lazy seamstresses out there .... Geesh ...well I have a short story that was sad and turned to joy especially now I have seen your video ... My original dress is beautiful but I sadly had a wallet stollen proceeding to the downfall of losing my overskirt in a storage facility that was to be paid the exact morning or was stolen by pickpocket .... Horrible luck I have... so infuriating.....it so happens that I have hand sewn this beautiful skirt and by machine to add dimensions and a whole new look to my dress plus I had lace and embroidery rhinestone patches with some pearl to add to my plane Jane dress ...... Well ... Sadly I have no longer the additional materials for my dress and I'm stuck now with only the shape and not the look I want ...but I recently have found a gorgeous dress that I love for an absolute great deal except I have gained little weight due to stress and the size is quite snug ....so it needs to be altered to 3 or 4 sizes larger ...it just barely fits but the back is questionable..it does have a corset back and panel so I know this can work with the right seamstress..... Please help .... Please let me know what magic ✨ you can offer me 😅😂
It takes a specialized skill set to alter up, especially a fully beaded bodice and skirt. This is definitely a custom alteration. Can you possibly share your price range for something like this?

I have a much bigger frame then my mother , my shoulder are more broad yet I truly want to wear her dress so much, but it’s a size 12 and I’m a size 16

Question, Is there a way to make a dress longer with the extra material that was hemmed off the bottom of the dress? (Ie make a dress that was hemmed to 5’7 fit a 5’11 bride?)
Absolutely! A dress with a textured skirt like this is easy to blend in extra length too! Lace is easy as well. Have you purchased your wedding dress for your wedding day and needing extra length added to it?

This is so reassuring as I'm in UK and seamstress is putting in a side panel my dress was made by a friend who unfortunately isn't in a position to alter it anymore. ( Due to the Ukraine war) I been so worried it will be obvious it has been made bigger. Just a plain stain a line dress but this gives me so much hope it will look good!

I am here for an odd reason. I am currently watching General Hospital and they are taking a vintage wedding dress to use it on someone who is larger than the previous wearers and was wondering if it could be done or if they would just fake a new dress. Thanks for the info.

I'm sizing up 5in on each side of a beaded short bodice wedding gown. The bust is sticking out any ideas?
When the bust is sticking out, you need to take in the FRONT but add to the BACK. You can do this in the side seam or add a panel to the back.
Can y'all work on dresses that aren't from your Bridal shop? I found a gorgeous vintage dress but it doesn't fit but my heart is set on it and I live close to Dallas.

@@AvasBridalCouture Wow thank you so much for responding so quickly and so sorry I didn't respond sooner! We don't have a date set yet but we're thinking maybe spring 2024 or 2025. I know it's a bit early for me to have been wedding dress shopping but I fell in love with a vintage dress and I couldn't help myself. I'm so glad that y'all are able to do alterations on dresses that aren't from your shop and I will definitely reach back out whenever it gets closer to when we're thinking about getting married. How long before the wedding would you recommend I reach out again for alterations?
10-12 months ahead is what a lot of brides do for vintage dresses (if they have the timeline! )
You can also start the process when mentally + financially ready to get the process started!

A 10 US is a 14 UK. But bridal sizing runs small in both places
