Liz is the precise model of how we all must be our own best counsellor. It's not something we are born knowing how to do. It's a life's work to learn how.
Thank you Hadley and Elizabeth. This whole conversation is a needed tonic.

I've been mesmerized by Liz for... how long? 8 years perhaps... I admire her sophisticated and beautiful brain and language... It's such an honor and solace (especially in the lockdown) to read and see her... immensely enjoy her company in solitary confinement of this lockdown in Moscow... I really cherish her extraordinary personality... and sometimes silently talk to her being in excruciating despair "on the bathroom floor" (quoting Eat, Pray,Love) ...

The part about creativity as medicine I took in so much. Thank you Elizabeth for being such a beautiful and eloquent person. The part about mercy at the end immediately made me think of this news story years ago about a naval officer who had forgotten to drop off his baby on the way to work on a sunny day and left her in the car.... when I heard that story my heart broke for him, how he must have felt when he realized his mistake. I could just feel that pain, and yes, I would want him to be forgiven, I can only hope that he showed himself mercy. And I should really stop beating myself up over little things. ❤️🙏❤️

beautiful, elegant and HOLY Liz! its so refreshing to hear her voice - her experiences. I agree this as an opportunity for many of us as to dive deep into ourselves - and as Liz said "Show ourselves mercy ... " YES softest mercy - i love the spaciousness of her thoughts on this. It is also a time to feel what its like for people who are incarcerated in the US (who suffer a great deal) and feel compassion. Rave on Liz!

I always learn so much listening to Liz. She is a gift that keeps on giving. But the advice about only allowing one hour a day for creativity baffles me. This current downtime, as terrible as the reason is, is a gift for people who don’t usually have enough time to spend on creative work/play that soothes, nourishes and honors the soul. Who wants to stare at a wall when they’re in a creative flow? And one hour seems so arbitrary. If you’re in the groove, an hour can fly by. If you have more time and are feeling inspired, why stop? Especially if there’s no monetary attachment or pressure, but even if there is. Did Liz write City of Girls in one hour a day? Sorry if this sounds harsh, it’s just that I’m completely perplexed. I do LOVE her and am grateful for the wisdom she shares. 💛

I love Liz so much it is like you are speaking to me directly. I don't listen to news, watch negative movies on Netflex or youtube, I don't listen to anything about the virus because this is my experience, mostly I am not at the level of most dealing with this and if I listen to everyone's anger and fear I find it brings me down. I am not there. I love love love isolation, love isolation able to deal with Tammy discovering mercy for herself, one layer at a time and now I have an excuse without criticism I don't get out enough...I go to my friends, or if I feel a need to be around other humans, this is on my own terms and I don't need to go find friends especially on cyber mediums that are not real, like facebook. I don't live with anyone but my beloved animals and I could not even imagine isolated with another no matter how much you love them. My relationships in the past were not good at all, I loved them to no end and not to escape them well...this is a time to truly listen to your heart, listen to your heart and if at the end of this pandemic, picturing what your life would be like to escape, for yourself what would this look like once you put everything back together again but for yourself...I escaped my last partner years ago and I am so good in my skin living alone with Tammy with her beloved fur feather clan. Love and cyber hugs to all.

Hi Tammy! Sounds like me! We must be sisters from another mother! Lol! Am enjoying this solitude n time fr me. I think Liz is right about this planet being a school for souls. Because if everything I have been through in my life I feel totally strong and unafraid of the future. It is all "interesting" like Liz said. Loved her book n film Eat, Pray Love. Can't wait to read City of Girls etc. Hoping world has changed for the better after this. Stay safe sister! Keep laughing from Scotland.

Mrs. Gilbert tells us a lot of wise things you can agree with. Some of it is advice to follow. But - and here I ask for the mercy of her fans, but I can't help it - why am I disturbed by her "smile"? It seems so artificial and put up for me. She is surely a great person and does not need to hide behind an expression like this. Anyway, I wish her, the very sensitive interviewer and everybody in confinement all the best. We do all need it.

That last story Liz told is poignant. A priest once told me not to worry myself sick over the pain people often suffer at the end of their lives because we don't know the deal their souls have made with the Creator, and that maybe those final hours of pain are the cleansing that is required in order to fully free their souls to heaven. So if this lady had done bad things in her life because of her addiction, maybe she needed those three days of pain in order to free her spirit in full humility. At the end of his life, Alexander the Great suffered through 12 days of fever, one day for each year he had unleashed war upon the earth. These things happen for a reason.

Well, I've seen people take real good care of themselves, and that is all that matters over anyone else, and which excludes others. I see a lot of self importance in people and it crowds out having care or compassion towards others, especially toward the weak and disabled. It makes me kind of nauseous. It can be so vain.
