Dude you’ve been playing for less than 2 years. I know you’ve made disc golf your new identity and it’s tough to not feel like a failure, but you need to show yourself some grace.
I mean, Waco was your highest profile event and nobody rated lower than you finished ahead of you, so that's pretty good. 🙂
Didn’t drew point that out ?
That he came in the lowest rated player and finished +15
Your transparency about your struggles and what you need to work on is admirable. I’ve been following you for about a year and seeing the change in your mindset, approach and skill level has been awesome! I’m nowhere near as good as you are on the course but I hit a lot of the same roadblocks and your persistence helps me to go back out and throw another round
The pro tour is hard
Quite literally can't get harder! Lol
Trust the process. Trust the process. Trust the process. It’s probably safe to assume you are in it for the long haul, so the process will get you there and keep you there.
Interesting take on your forehand “discovery”. There is definitely a sweet spot for everyone’s shoulder mobility, but there can be a danger zone right next to it if you don’t condition all of the small clusters of muscles quite well enough. Really pay attention to your body’s messaging and don’t try to tough it out through pain. (Speaking as a casual player who used to have a comfortable 350 forehand until I injured my shoulder-now my limit is 150’ flicks)
cool hearing you talk about Jake and Ben, didnt know them personally but I was in a few classes with ben in school. Watching his clips at some of my local courses was what got me into disc golf
Keep grinding and don't lose the love to the game. I also had a pretty underwhelming start to the season at my local C-Tiers, but everytime I am throwing discs I feel this joy inside of me that nothing else in this world can give me. I hope you can feel it to. Thank you for inspiring us. ❤
You've got this Anthony. Looking forward to checking in on your results at the Q-series!
For an individual who’s only been playing for 4 or 5 years you should be proud of what you’ve accomplished you gotta crawl before you walk 🥏
I think it’s less than 3 years…
Yeah I just back to his oldest video, he said in it that he started playing in January 2022. Absolutely crazy the progress that’s he’s made in that time
Thought he played longer that’s even more impressive lol
Stay with it, man, stay the course, you're a good dude and a lot of people pull for you because you're genuine in your pursuits. See you in Portland Brodanza!
You're on a good path and it's still on the way up. You made more progress than 99.9% of disc golfers who started around the time you did, and I think the positivity you have in many parts of this video shows through, despite any pessimism or disappointment. Keep up the great work, Anthony!
Great video. I’ve been following you for a long time and love seeing your progress. Can’t wait to see how you do in the DDO.
You're in the top 1% of all disc golfers regardless. Rome wasn't built in a day and progress isn't linear. You got this!
We've got your back bro! I'm a fan. I will always watch to see how you do.
It's funny to hear someone who impresses you say they are doing poorly at what impressed you. You make a lot of dope putts! That's something very rare for me but I also gave up practicing putting a while ago and just touch it up when I feel like it.
I've been a viewer since you lived in Florida AB, and when you putted straddle with pures you were lights out. Bring the straddle back for C1.
One thing I have noticed: you putted really well like 9-12 months into playing DG. And then you kinda lost the magic factor again. Same thing happened to me in tandem (started at the same time as you). I think maybe some of this is that you started out with nothing to loose, just feeling stuff out and going with whatever worked (to some extent). Then you wanted to know everything about all the details in every part of your movement (again, I'm doing the same). So. Going through that much information and adding it all top the same little tiny movement, developing all the time.. It's gonna take a whiiiile for it to settle into something that is just like "yeah, that just my putt y'know".
So yeah. Love your integrity thought, I'm gonna take that with me.
Love watching you grow, Mr. Bodanza, it's a pleasure. You're doing well.
Love these type of vids sprinkled in every week or 2
Also, Q-series is coming to Utah. You playing any of those events? Let us fans know so we can show up and support you!
Conqeueror->Halo Emp->Luster Emp->beat up I blend Emp. Done.
Keep up the positive vibes bro. Btw, I’m an Innova guy and to support you I bought a halo sphinx thinking I’d put it on the shelf to sit forever. Well…I threw it…just to see…and that disc is money. It bombs. Right in the bag. 👊
I've gained about 40 feet of power in the last year. I haven't seen much improvement in the last two months. I'm struggling to increase the snap I get and the total rpm on the disc. I'm kind of stuck around 420 feet of power. I have hit 450 a couple times, but I don't see any difference in what I did to get those. Every throw that I have had over 440 has had an audible snap (which is not typical for me). Any advice on how to realistically work on improving my snap?
Would you ever consider a gimble for your camera setup? Mostly for when you walk and talk. The motion sickness just at those portions is real.
I know you might not see this but have you looked at trying to putt like Andrew Marwede? I had the issue of missing right and then over correcting to then miss just barely left splashing out when I was just to swing then pop. I have recently starting swinging and popping with my palm to the sky like marwede and it had been amazing. When you straddle you have the same type of release as I’m describing but when you stagger it seems like you have more wrist spin then the smooth pop in your straddle. Just a thought to look at if you ever read this comment.
Man, you've been playing dicksc golf for like a year. I'd say you're doing pretty damn good for yourself so far. Keep on keepin' on!
It’s your first year getting to the tour. Your career just started.
I have stopped doing the second putt while playing rounds, practice like you play...seems it just become one more thing that messes with my mentality. One shot one opportunity.
Also with forehands you have had a very tight elbow to the hips which is not so good. So starting further out seem to have made you keep it a bit further out. If look at sexton which also looks like the elbow is pretty tucked it really isnt when it passes the hip since he bends quite alot just there. Creating space for rhe elbow to pass the hip and make it lead the hand is what makes it effortless and much less injury prone
I enjoy your videos! I’ll say my advice, for the little it’s worth, is to not think so hard and just do. We can think ourselves into a horrible putt, or a shanked shot, instead of just trusting our gut and form and just throwing the disc the way we know we should
Your playing tournaments in WA state? Which ones?
Then again, jake wolff bought his first disc 2020 and is now on the pro tour. Some ppl are simply gifted beyond comprehension
Just gonna ask, how many on the pro tour has been playing sub 3 years?
Sounds like you are doing all of the right stuff with your training and prep work! Results will have no choice but to start showing up, you got this man
hey dude, long time viewer and first time commenter here. its so sick to see you improving your game and to see that you are in a good strong headspace through a "less than desirable" start. the editing is also looking very crisp in these recent videos so good job there too :)
Its all good dude keep grinding
You're a success, dude. C'mon now! Your goal was to get on the pro tour. You did it! It takes a few years to adapt. Just keep fucking around and finding out!
aye coming to washington thats whats up
You're not going to like to hear this but I will give you some advice from someone who had tour card for professional darts.
You should have never abandoned the straddle putt. When I went pro I spent so much chasing pro form my skill plummeted. A sports psychologist talked once about skill plateaus, and once we reach them we don't get a new ladder
yes
Idk if you've ever heard of Nick Krush but he talks a lot about biomechanics and the physics behind the throw. He is a huge dude but he still has good form.
Nothing about anything you have done in the past 2 years is a failure by any means. You have accomplished a SHIT ton. You have alot to be proud of. Keep killing it.
Imagine how your sponsors feel about your showing. All that faith they had in you, out the window.
I throw pretty overstable discs, but idk how you’re getting your Firebirds to go that straight…
Maybe I’m nose up? Idk, I have 425’ golf distance but mine definitely don’t fly like yours
There are def some Firebirds that are straighter than others.
Disc golf is weird. I've been playing for roughly the same amount of time as you. I peaked in my ability about 6 to 8 months ago, and I've been getting worse at disc golf ever since. Doesn't matter how much I play or practice, I'm a little worse everyday.
I feel ya, I wanted to play in my first tournament by now but my putting had been bad enough that I haven’t even bothered to sign up for one
I saw you shot a -5 that was 887 rated?? That seems crazy to me..
You should probably not work on form during tournement season. Either go full field work or take your mind off form and just throw.
Hi
If you need a tour guide in WA, let me know.
Please use music from Ooyy in every video, thank you
Ce sera sera. Whatever will be, will be. That’s what I try to tell myself before a tough shot. Empty my brain and that fate happen.
New video idea, make the putt twice, or the birdies dont count. Might be good for the mentality
Turning down the $5 is always awkward
"Sometimes it's stiff and it feels really good" Anthony Bodanza 4/24/2024 ............. 09:16
I know you are excited and the adrenaline is flowing, but I believe your insightful dialogue would come across better if it was slowed down a bit. I almost switched you to .75 playback speed, which was a better speed, but slightly garbled. Your content is great, so this is nothing more than my own observation.
1
I’m not even watching this one.
I don’t know if it’s a click bait title or not. So this comment is based on the title only.
Anthony, if you really think your season is a failure, just quit.
It’s far from a failure. Please take a step back and see what all you’ve accomplished to this point.
You’re competing against players that have been playing for most of their lives.
Way to shred that much more difficult back nine. Maybe you just need us to shut up sometimes.
Scott Stokely always says you throw a disc like you throw a ball. It’s really true. The arm slot is the same it’s just the torso angle that changes to get the disc on plane.
Dude, you've been playing for a very short period of time. Playing at a high level takes time and tons of practice.
you have been playing for a short time, you are not good enough YET! Its a marathon not a sprint. Take your time and do not expect more than you actually can achieve.
I really hope your trainers are strength and conditioning coaches and not just personal trainers
You went from positive postboy to pity thumbnails. 🤔
Dude has putting yips.
Go grab some pfn innova fL’s buddy thank me later
The guys you are playing have been playing since they were kids. You have been playing for two years.
I think the simple answer is you're just not good enough. The only shame in that would be thinking otherwise.
*yet! :)
This is an early comment
A littttttleeeeee dramatic tbh. You been playing for 2 years chill out a bit and stop over thinking!
You sped up the video too fast through the warmup which was the only interesting part of this video
Adjust the playback speed
I definitely wouldn't say the word failure..I mean not even close. Your youtube channel fame has allowed you to play these pro tournaments but realistically you haven't done anything to deserve playing in these events. You should look at the experience you have gotten as an absolute win and just keep working hard. My fear for you has always been going down the same path as Brody Smith. He didn't deserve to ever be on tour but because of youtube he was allowed to and he has never lived up to the hype. I have more faith in your work ethic though..just keep pushing.
my dude, Brodie Smith (which you incorrectly spelled as Brody) deserved to be on tour, he did live up to the hype, and he had work ethic. He had career earnings of $41 thousand, including top 10 finishes in significant tournaments. The thing was he came up right before a wave of extremely talented and mostly uninteresting young players swarmed the tour. so, he had his day, and in my opinion did accomplish a lot for himself and disc golf, regardless of your haterism.
