- Come spend the morning with me in the shade garden as I get a little bit of everything done. I am planting both of my hayracks along with a brand new wall hanging planter, adding some new perennials to the garden, and some basic bed maintenance.
I got the hayracks and wall planter here

I can only speak to zone 4 but I have re-used my potting soil for 10 years. I dispose of anything that was diseased or had insect issues, but the stuff from healthy annuals I overwinter and re-use mixed with about 1/3 fresh soil, earthworm castings and good-quality slow release fertilizer. My plants do great every year and it's way more affordable and creates a lot less waste. I even moved my used potting soil when I moved to a new home. 🙂
In a way, I reuse mine as well. I dump the containers out in areas of the garden to amend my soil.
excellent video Jenny, great tip re compost/potting soil, makes sense! Had to smile when the dancing around my plants comment came (been there done that). If I may, I think another peacock container on the wall to make a pair would really make a statement.. - Who could possibly give this video a thumbs down, really, whats not to like about it!
I was thinking the same on another planter for the garage wall❣️
I missed the comment on compost/potting soil. What did she say? Thanks!
@@gayladance8351 Jenny referred to an article in this months Fine Gardening magazine - the authors advice was to put compost in the bottom of your container and then add potting soil on top - his rationale is the young plants will continue to grow in the top layer (potting soil) and as the roots mature they will find the nutrition in the bottom layer (compost). Made sense to me!. Regards and best wishes from Ontario, Canada.
@@paulineanderson3985 thank you so much for the reply from down south in Mississippi!
Agree one more container at a angle
This shade garden is absolutely stunning! I think the plant placement and spacing is perfect allowing each plant to shine without taking away from the others! And they each compliment the other beautifully from the edge of the bed to the window baskets and hanging planter! Love Love LOVE! Job well done 👏🏼💚🌸
Thank you!
This completed bed is truly ready for Fine Gardening magazine.
I love Jenny's style. Your gardens are beautiful. A pleasure watching your videos.
Jenny I was screaming “put it in the black pot” Lol!
Jenny needs a t-shirt with "Dancin around my bleeding heart here!" :D
Lol
Wouldn’t a BIG ANGEL form Unique Stone look gorgeous tucked in that corner!
I love the wall container ,you garden is beautiful .
Very much enjoyed this video. I felt like I was right there with you planting and pruning. I love that you give close-ups of each plant and the surrounding areas which, again, makes me feel like I'm there with you. Thank you for your hard work, Jenny.
Thank you Jenny beautiful I love to watch you garden 😍💖👍
Love angel wings!
you are the hardest working gardener i ever seen and your yard is beautiful
I really like the peacock planter and also how you give you plants space to grow and not pack them in. The planters will fill in and look so beautiful with time. They already look good now! The perennial bed is gorgeous. Great video.
Thanks so much!
Jenny - I love the color combination of the pink begonias balanced with the white and picking up the pink in the caladiums. It is just enough - not a frenzied overcrowding of multiple plants stuffed to the gills. So pleasing and peaceful as an accompaniment to your established hydrangea that is looking fabulous!
Thanks so much!
This is my favorite flower bed and I love those planters, can't wait to see them fill in.
Love the lead in music! I’ve missed it from years ago when I first started watching your videos. For me it sets the mood for getting out there, especially after a long winter..
So I was hollering "Jenny put the container in the mulch tub!!!!!". ...and you did. Smart girl. I have one odd hanging planter I have to do that to. Instant stability. I just love this garden so much.
Jenny everything is gorgeous cant wait to see how big they will get! You are a absolute joy to watch in the garden
Hi Jenny and Jerry again a great video regarding hints and tips especially about compost and fall flowers and plants I've learned so much about gardening from you both best regards from the South East Coast of Ireland 🇮🇪😀😊
As a beginner I’m so grateful for information I learn from you
Yay!!!!!
Really nice container plantings, eye catching and NOT to over planted. I think these are the prettiest ones I have seen on youtube channels. Well Done Jenny
Amen to potting soil. I used proven winners this year and it has made the biggest difference. I will definitely be using it from here on out. Now I have to do the land and sea compost at the bottom because Jenny says. So thick here in Va. 111 degrees today with the humidity. They are gorgeous!! Thanks for sweating it out for us to see your video.
😥 😅 😃
Window boxes ! My Favorite! Good morning creekside! 🌞

Good morning! Love the combination s and that sun king is beautiful ❤️❤️❤️
Love your videos, Jenny! I moved to western NC (in the Smokies), and I've never seen so many slugs and snails in my entire life. I've also seen some bug-critters I've never experienced before -- like golden tortoise beetles. They look like ladybugs that have been covered in REAL GOLD! I've only found them on my Sweet Caroline sweet potato vines. I've also never seen sawflies -- they have decimated my roses. I've gardened all my life, and I'm still learning every single day. Thank you for sharing your expertise with us all.
Welcome to NC! I’m so glad you’re enjoying the videos, and it sounds like you might be dealing with potato beetles. Google them & see if that’s what you have.
I love everything you did in this shade garden this year!
