i love it when people first get into quantum mechanics and they always end up loosing their shit over the idea of superposition and particle wave theory
It never seems to get any better tbh. We don't even try to explain the reality behind it now, to the extent where professors used to recommend students to not even consider the implications and cause behind stuff and instead try to understand how it works first. Seems kinda like how I can use my computer yet don't have a bloody clue about how its software or hardware works.
@@hexrin5191 They have a point though. On our level it seems there is causality but really there might be no such thing as causality at all. If you imagine back to before the beginning of the big bang, there isn't anything before that. So did something actually CAUSE the big bang or is the big bang just the very beginning of time itself? If you believe in causality, you run into the problem, "What caused the big bang? Ok then what caused the cause of the big bang?", you then find yourself in an infinite regress. It's like that thought process, if god made everything, then what made god and what made that and what made that?
@@leocarbaugh5074 I actually don't believe causality to be some sort of a fundamental law anyways, I was more talking about how we don't treat qm like other fields and very rarely delve into theories about why it's so bizarre in the first place. I'm referring to theories such as the many worlds theory or the literal interpretation of qm. These theories are a fascinating place for study but most of the people in the field have the approach of focusing on the ways we can use it practically instead meaning that even top level researchers in the field don't really understand a lot more than an enthusiastic member of the public with some time on their hands.
damn @@leocarbaugh5074 and @Daivik you two just blew my mind on quantum mechanics, it's fascinating how the universe has generated it's on laws at the start of literally everything and Leo it's amazing how you convey that sense of mystery in a way that "what is the origin of the creation of everything, and what is the origin of that" and so on so forth. Imo quantum physics is very difficult to fully understand. Do you two think that quantum physics/mechanics will ever be understood by scientists, physicists etc.?
@@EGMaverick I think it could be possible but idk tbh. Even if we figured out everything in qm, I doubt it would explain how this is all here, my hunch is it is probably completely unknowable. If I throw away scientific process and speculate on how this is all here, my best guess is that infinity just exists because nothing can't exist and so there's everything. This idea with the anthropic principle and extra dimensions is my guess but idk and I doubt I ever will because this is most likely unfalsifiable, it just makes the most sense to me.

I love these types of videos from you! It makes me so happy that you want to share things you've learned
Felix, you're absolutely right about it not being "just passive observation" when you look at quantum particles. When you measure something, you are always interacting with it. For example, if you wanted to even "look" at an electron, you'd have to shine some light on it. Light energy which the electron would absorb and then change its behaviour. And most forms of measuring an electron would need you to interact with it, in one way or another so pretty much the mere presence of an observer or measurer can and WILL change the behaviour of a particle. this is kind of the idea that Heisenberg's Uncertainty Principle is based on :)
I was so frustrated he didn't mention that. So many people use the "it knows its being observed" fallacy to justify weird spiritual or simulation theories
@@GnotAGnome i mean the double slit experiment was also performed with an "observer at a distance" i. e. someone not even in the room and the results were still consistent 🤷♀️
@@honeybunches5130 What do you mean, an observer at a distance? To measure the position of the electron you HAVE to interact with it. If you were sitting I'm another room, how would you know the position? You still have to interact with it, thus changing the state.
It gets weirder too when they tried to measure it in other ways, checkout delayed choice experiment and quantum eraser. Never properly understood it but seems there is no conceivable way yet to make an observation in this scenario. Mind blowing stuff!
@@GnotAGnome scientists were in the room with the experiment and they had a "remote" observer focus their awareness on the waveform/particles and recorded the same results as with the measuring device. i believe there was a phone involved. been a while since i looked into it

He's doing gods work, for real. I think more people need to learn about stuff like this. Instead we are consumed in these daily conflicts and struggles, until the day we expire, not knowing what we lived for.
This question is up to philosophical debate, actually. Do people *need* to know this stuff? How would it help them? Pewds! Read ”fabric of the cosmos” by Brian Greene. He goes into all this stuff, from Einstein to Schrodiner, to inflation to string theory, and he does it so anyone can understand it at at least a non-mathematical level (but with footnotes and references at the end so you can see just how truly next level these physics professors are, and how amazing it is that people have figured out this stuff. Makes you feel proud to be human).

As a quantum chemistry student, I love how Felix is just losing his mind trying to learn the stupidly complex concepts of quantum world in such a surprisingly short amount of time and actually doing better than most people 🤣🤣
Hello Kapil, i'm a Chemistry student in a Belgian university and i have a quick question for you i hope you can answer: is quantum chemistry accessible after a chemistry chemistry bachelor/master or is it after a physic bachelor/master ?
I’d highly recommend a channel called TheMercifulServant cause many of the queries and theories you’d mentioned Pewds align with the scientific and Islamic findings and teachings that discuss the universe and the multiverse/the existence of other versions of oneself.
It would be super fascinating to see what your reaction to this perspective would be! 😋
@@NlGHTSKY As far as I know, it is perfectly doable as long as you have done atleast a set of intermediate courses on quantum mechanics. My university has quantum chemistry built into its bachelor's program but even if yours doesnt, doing some courses from physics department as electives should suffice.
Obviously take this with a grain of salt. I dont know your exact situation, you dont know my exact situation. So what might work for me might not work for you. I have seen master students who had no exposure to anything quantum in their bachelor's and are still working in the field in their 2nd year so Im pretty confident when I tell you that it works.
Just to be safe though, I suggest you approach the professor/university you plan to work with for the exact requirements and start planning accordingly.
Hope this helped!
@@kapil4973 Thank you a lot for the help ! I'm choosing my first "minor" ( wich i guess is what you call electives ) very soon so i will be carefull!
And as a small comment i don't know if that really enters the "Quantum field" like you described it but i've had a course partially dedicated to quantum numbers of atoms and their oritals and hybridations wich i guess is pretty basic but still a part of quantum chemistry!
@Junior Read it isn’t necessarily so people convert to any religion but rather as a way to connect knowledge from different resources, philosophies and sciences that can further our collective knowledge and understandings as curious human beings. 😊
Really enjoyed it! Please keep doing these kind of videos!!
Really loved this video, he did a really good job explaining everything. I learned about the inflation theory and the light experiment multiple times in high school and college but I always forget about it until something comes along to refresh my memory. Now that I imagine them as eggs, I definitely won't forget
Love these videos where Felix is like "Yo, check this shit out".
It's fun to watch something that isn't pretentious or trying to hard to educate you. Like, this is legit him getting excited about something and sharing it and it put a smile on my face.
I also didn't know the topic in-depth, so hey, you opened my mind to things I didn't quite get!
It was really fun!
Fr it's wholesome
So you're telling me there is another universe where Pewds didn't sh*t in the shower? I don't buy it.

I didn't know anything about that electron experiment until now. *but* it kinda makes sense that the electrons would act differently while being observed, right? Assuming they were unobserved at that spot before that point.
We need light to observe things. If light is a particle and a wave, and electrons are also particles and waves, electrons passing through a dense area of light will naturally have their wave patterns impacted.
However, the density of light in that area isn't enough to fully stop an electron. So, after exiting that area, the electrons will keep going until they reach a spot of atoms dense enough to stop them (a wall), but their wave pattern will have been altered by the light, so that they seem to be acting more like a particle than a wave.
Chances are high that rather than them just going straight, however it might look, their waves are actually just shallower, and the highs and lows are no longer big enough to reach the middle of the wall at the end.
Idk for sure tho, that's just how my mind reasons with it.
Love this, would love to see more!

Hey Felix, how about you look into consciousness next? And the implications of what is consciousness with the multiverse, if the multiverse splits making a copy of you, which one is the real you? Are both you? Does one universe keep the "original" consciousness and the rest are all copies, are all of them the "original"? I find consciousness to be very fascinating, especially when you introduce the multiverse theory into it and I'd love to hear you talk about it
This would be so fucking amazing
Alongside consciousness, Intelligence can be an interesting to look into.
@@astro-snake true, but consciousness also has very little known about, and it's different from intelligence, so since he just talked about the multiverse and is learning about it, consciousness ties in pretty well
Fun video, good job on explaining these concepts. Better than some teachers I've known.
