    One thing you need to get your head around is how cheap life is in Westeros. You're considered an old man if you make it to forty. Women die in childbirth ALL THE TIME (Walder Frey is on to his 7th wife). Hell, the wildlings north of the Wall don't even give their children names until they are TWO YEARS old because there's only like a 50/50 chance they'll even survive that long. It's easy for these people to do stuff to each other (and each others kids) that we would consider psychopathic.

    Fish pie was popular in pre-Industrial London. The Thames river was a very productive fishery.
    Unfortunately, industrial pollution killed all the fish, so by the mid-1800s the only "fish" in the river were eels, so eel pie became popular. It tastes horrific.

    BTW, there's definitely an inkling that the Lannister mom was really a good seed. There's a story in the books that says after his wife's death, Tywin never smiled again. And that Jaime's obsession with Cersei is because he misses his mom/has mom issues.

    The previous hand before Ned stark looked into all of Robert’s bastard kids. So they were all on record so maybe they got his documents and used that most likely

  • @echinorlax
    @echinorlax Před 25 dny

    I am pretty sure there was no need to kill all dark-haired kids, Snax.
    First of, there is high probability Robert's court handled the matters for the king one way or the other. Maybe the mothers could count on their help to improve king's standing with the littlefolk, maybe the court wanted the mothers to be silent, who knows. Since Robert created these "situations" frequently, the court would probably implement some established system of dealing with them, to have all the cats herded proactively and preventively, so to speak. The aftermath of this system would be Joffrey having a courtier at hand who could point Gold Cloaks to the kids.
    Second, we have Jon Arryn's investigation. Whether he was just following the same trail mentioned above, or finding them completely from the scratch, he created a fresh trail for Joffrey to follow. Retracing his steps, with a person of his rank always having a smaller or bigger retinue accompanying him, would be as easy as asking his former servants at the castle all the necessary questions.
    While the first is only a hypothesis, the second is a known thing. I don't think Joffrey would even bother with doing thorough job. He isn't a type of a person to overthink things. He would just assume Arryn's list is complete and ordered the executions. Whoever was in charge of overseeing the process, would never care deeply enough to point out there might be more, or be morally hesitant to do so, having good reason to believe no bastard would ever admit their heritage to the newly ruling Lannisters.

    Game of Thrones was a series on HBO, which you could only watch by paying for it. The HBO shows all tended to have things you COULDN'T see on other channels such as sex, nudity, violence, and foul language. @williamhuebler68 Před 26 dny

    This world doesn’t have a Christian world view ethic infused in its culture unlike ours. So Christianity’s built in taboo against sex isn’t in these religions. (I think the faith of the seven is supposed to sort of stand in for Catholicism but the more pagan inspired religions are still quite prevelent here compared to in our medieval world and they regard sex as natural and even an act of power). Also the magic in this world is some mix of fire and blood magic (see Danny hatching the dragons). If only life can pay for death, then sex in some sense is creation of life right? Does that not give it a magical, religious power?
    The sexism and power imbalance in many of the sex scenes is supposed to make u uncomfortable. It’s a reminder of what people do with such power imbalance, and how far we have already come with regards to women’s rights. And how much further we still have to go.
    Martin likes to put people in awkward provoking social situations to see how we react to them. And playing with incest, prostitution, infidelity, blood magic, violence, power dynamics, and morally flawed characters are his go to moves.

    • @mostneuter
      @mostneuter Před 25 dny

      well even for christianity, this taboo around sex is fairly recent, in the middle age the church was very involved, even to the point of recommending positions to increase the chances of pregnancy (or so they believed), how pleasure is important etc

Not counting that GoT came out first so at least you should do the opposite (i mean..if you watch house of the dragons you can say "in game of thrones..."). But also this would be good for 1-2-3-4 episodes at beginning, when you are trying to understand the differences...there is no point to say "in HotD there is this and that" in every episode you watch
