I love Gulnar! You know there is a statue of Richard O'Brien as Riff Raff on the site of the old hairdressers where he worked in the 50s/60s . It contains a camera that records and broadcasts people doing the Time Warp in it's presence. I think Will and Little John in this episode are hurting because they let themselves believe in Robin's cause and viewed themselves as unstoppable in the fight against injustice. The reality of Robin's death has all but broken them.

I live just a few miles from Lichfield. I can see spires of the cathedral from the top of the hill. It was a much more important town in medieval times than it is today, before it was bypassed by the coming of the railways, and still retains a little of that character, although much more of it is Georgian and Victorian. Arianrhod appears in the Mabinogion. Her story is linked to The Owl Service by Alan Garner, a genuinely disturbing contemporary novel for children set in Wales, at least it was when I was 11 years old, which was made into a tv drama in 1969. It might be worth a look.

There is some really impressive acting in this episode from Clive Mantle and Ray Winstone, who both do a great job of conveying the grief and loss of direction John and Will have suffered as a result of Robin's death. Nice to see evidence of Much maturing a bit as well, and Robert certainly earns his right to lead the outlaws as a result of his actions through the episode. I like that Richard Carpenter doesn't make it easy for him, as it is only natural that the Merries would regard this aristo with great suspicion to start with.
Regarding the woad, I do wonder if the make up artist had been watching too many Adam Ant videos at the time! I think it's a smart move that Marion doesn't immediately return to Sherwood. The memory of Robin would still be too raw for her to resume that life easily, and I am sure she feels obligated to her father not to scorn the pardon she received.

The guy who throws the money bags down in front of the Sheriff at 11.24 was played by George Baker, years before the second Number 2 in the Prisoner first episode Arrival. Also he was genealogist Sir Hilary Bray in the Bond On Her Majesty's Secret Service.

My brother and sister and I used a broom handle each as a quarterstaff. We also made bows from the bamboo in the garden.

The element of Robin Hood paying Sir Richard’s debts to the Abbot of St. Mary’s is from the medieval ballad A Gest of Robyn Hode. Glad you’re enjoying what is tied with Errol Flynn’s film as my favourite version of the Robin Hood legend. The Blake’s 7 podcast I co-host - Straight Outta the Federation - has been doing a few Robin of Sherwood tribute episodes.

It is interesting to note Alexa that when Marion asks Robert "Do You They Will Accept You As Their Leader" he answers "Would You?" and she doesnt reply and looks very sad as she departs.

No wonder you like Robin Hood so much. That story about your schooling & what you went through. Your birthday story about princesses having to whale on each other is funny!

I know this is going to come as a shock, and we are not supposed to do spoilers, but if I remember right, this Robert fella will become an enemy of Sir Guy and the Sheriff.

As someone has mentioned here, you'd probably like The Owl Service (TV, 1969).

I love that you had a staff fighting party.🏹I did have a go at archery but I wasn't much good at it.
I think that the writing for season 3 wasn't as good as the first two seasons, mainly because they had to bring in other writers, who perhaps didn't have quite the feel for the show that Kip Carpenter did.
I think Jason Connery did a good job considering that he was playing a different kind of Robin Hood from a different background than Michael Praed's Robin. And the rest of the cast still look like they are having a good time. 🍻

Herne's Son Parts 1 & 2 are my favourites of the entire series, though later episodes in Season 3 also come pretty close.
But I'm biased the reason I mentioned in the previous video's comments.

Although Michael Pread is clearly a better actor, I think they did a pretty good job of continuing the series without him. I love this story in particular.

Connery's slightly wooden acting is one of the things that kept me from fully engaging with his turn in the show. I enjoyed season three's writing and technical aspects but there were times I was pulled out of the immersion by lines being delivered like they were being read straight off the script! Still, it was a shame the series had to come to an end. I remember Jason Connery saying it ended because no one was willing to put up the money for another season (probably due to dwindling viewing figures)!

@@cardcounter21 It was because the parent film company pulled the plug because its finances were in trouble.
