    Yes, Thank you. We've tried everything else, it's on a 2006 Tahoe with the Vortec 4.8l. I don't have a scope so I'll have to just replace it and see if that's it. II was hoping the ECM would read it through the OBDII as I have a 3.28i BMW that can read the code for just that although the code doesn't distinguish between the intake or the exhaust cam shaft sensor; blew me away that it had two but then again that's German engineering. Thanks again buddy.

    it does work together, as pressure increases timing must be re-adjusted as well as inform the ECM on timing,speed, gear, and throttle position, there are other things that work together. If I were you I would check the temp. sensors it may think it got cold that why no compress to check this you need a digital meter to watch the temp as the engine warms up. ANY temp drop when it should climb to at least 200 deg. Fan comes on at about 215 or so. there are 2 temp sensor

    Yes, is the answer to the money question. However, adaptive re-learn is needed for the following. As sensor/component wears, ECM remembers its wear pattern. Also, when sensor is new, each one has a specific peculiarity, same year, make and model sensor. Most makes you erase and disconnect ECM to erase adaptive memory. Others require a scan tool. All this is covered on my Automotive Sensors. Thanks for posting.

    Yes, of course. The magnet, assuming it a 3800 GM that had magnets, has to be in the same position. I'm not referring to the magnet being turned on itself. Hope that helps...

    Help, my Opel Astra Caravan 2001 1.8cc wont start. The engine turns over, but will not start. There is no spark in the plug, and though the fuel filter has been tested to be working, when fitted back in the car, and ignition turned on, it will not run, as in there is no sound to indicate that the motor is moving.
    What could be the problem?

    So, if the camshaft position sensor is having a problem it can shut the engine down, correct? The engine starts and stays running for a bit, about 10 minutes, and then shuts down. Sometimes it will start and other times it won't. We've tried to diagnose everything else and even replaced the crankshaft position sensor but still having problems. We thought it was the anti-theft system but were told that the problems are different than how it's acting. Any suggestions?

  • @Fire914
    @Fire914 Před 13 lety

    @hossamm3 No the cam sensor just measures the angle of of cam and relays that information back to the ECU of your car. That information is used for the timing (spark plugs firing). Your compressor problem should be checked by a professional, it could be a leak and there are kits to detect that but its much easier to let someone who knows what they are doing do it.

  • @ADPTraining

    Remember that now the ECM needs to read intake and exhaust CAMshaft, since both have variable valve timing. BMW calls it VANOS. We also have a whole series on BMW Vanos right here in this channel (FREE). Good luck on your repair. Let me know if you need anything else. Thanks for posting.

    It's where the ethanol, water content, and petroleum all separate, under the right conditions. Pop Mechanics outlined the whole thing in an article, "Can E15 Gasoline Really Damage Your Engine?" At first, my car started shifting prematurely. Apparently that was the straight ethanol (One mechanic told me ethanol is the equivalent of lighter fluid - poorly combustible). Then with the water, the transmission wouldn't shift into fifth gear at all and almost died, until I replaced the fuel filter.

    I have 2008 Chrysler 300 and it was running fine till it got really cold outside ( -30 -40 degree ) and yes I'm from Canada, and I when I went to start it in the morning it BARELY started , it was struggling to starts , so I left it running for 10 min to warm up then I started driving it , the engine light came on with the code " P0016 Camshaft\Crankshaft timing misalignment - Bank 1 Sensor 1".
    And I got to the highway I found out that after reaching 80 km speed it hesitates , glitches , breaks up , shakes when I remove my foot from the gas. so do u think the cold weather killed the sensors ? or it was just a coincidence ? should I wait till it gets lil bit warm and see what happens?
    oh other symptoms :
    -The traction systems light came on at the same time.
    - The engine light fleshes for 9 or 10 times.
    Any help will be really appreciate it.
    thanks

    • @ADPTraining
      @ADPTraining  Před 10 lety

      Well soocooool that's a fitting name, there's nothing wrong with Canada, simply there's nothing perfect in this world.
      Ok first, CAM and CRK sensors do get moisture buildup inside, so with cold temps, it freezes up, expands and causes issues. Same goes for the wheel speed sensors and ABS/Track control speed sensors. Your only option is to park your car in a heated area and see or wait till temps warm up a bit. This cold snap that's engulfing North America as a whole will tapper off next week and warm up a bit. Wait and see. Don't spend money for an illusive issue that may go away.
      If the frozen humidity inside the sensor cracked the plastic and internal components, then issue will remain and you'll have to replace the sensors, whichever they are. Sorry for the bad news. Good luck and stay warm.

    For those "negative" people that comment. Try having a "positive" attitude for a change. Consider making a constructive comment rather than throwing stones and beating down these people that in one way or form are helping you! I haven't seen the whole video yet as i'm only at 2:31, but I see there is a part two on this. Maybe what you are looking for is there???
    Although this may be uninteresting to some? I was enlightened by the fact that there was so many variations out there! I found the video interesting and informative.
    The only complaint is the full time name and copyright info on the screen that blanketed out the pop up details. A lack of thought and judgement on the producers and editors in my opinion!

    I have an interesting question - I experienced "phase separation" years ago in my car, which destroyed a lot of parts. When it first happened, the water was causing the car to not shift into fifth gear at highway speeds. Mechanics were no help restoring the car - 05 Impreza - so I had to replace parts over the next 3 years until performance came back. I replaced the cam/crank sensors at the same time and got substantial performance back. How did phase separation effect the cam or crank sensor?

    Anti-theft will make it not start. If it runs for 10 min. then AT is not the issue. Some makes the engine will not start without the CAM sensor. Other will by taking a guess at CAM position until engine starts. Then stay synched to the CRK sensor only. If your vehicle starts then dies, then monitor CAM and CRK with a scope. There's no other way to diagnose this issue. You need to see what's happening. Makes sense?

    I found my problem when I removed the sensor. 1996 Chrysler Sebring conv. 2.5l , 6 cyl. motor. Center wire of 3 wires from connector to sensor (3" length pigtail) had a big hole with green-blue corrosion swelling out of hole. I split wires apart and razor bladed center wire. 10 of 18 wires were seperated and remaining 8 looked like red brick color and would break if I moved them. How can I bench test good portion of wire? I pass a magnet in front of sensor and feel a good tug on unit. New sensor was $62 , running fine. What voltage to use, and what wires are what? Thanks.

    • @ADPTraining
      @ADPTraining  Před 10 lety

      One wire is reference voltage (5V most likely), the reference ground and center wire is signal. Sometimes center is not signal, review your wiring diagram and connector pin assignment. To test use continuity or Ohm meter. May not be necessary to replace the sensor, unless it's damaged. Hope that helps.

    hi, quick question, thought only you would know. Some cars when we replace Crank or Cam, we need to take to dealer to re-learn it, for other cars it is not needed to re-learn even if we change cam or crank. Question, why does manufacturere mandated for re-learn? just to get money from customer?. because there are cars which can re-learn by itself, that is why iam asking.
