    As a person with epilepsy and experienced many seizures, you should not put fingers inside a persons mouth as the person that is seizing can simply bite right through it like a carrot. The main job is to clear a safe space on the floor and put them in the recovery position. Preferably put a hoodie or something soft underneath their head to avoid them smacking their head on the floor as I once did!

      Yeah man idk why that rumor spread that you should help them try not to swallow their tongue, cause like you said, that could be your fingers and and now he's choking on fingers you no longer have....awful.

      @Wagoo Před rokem

      yeah, good info. I always try and correct this when this episode comes up. They are not gonna swallow their own tongue, but if you start grabbing it you'll lose your fingers or they'll bite off their tongue, thanks to you. Just try and stop them hitting their head on stuff and be there for them when their brain boots back up, as they will be very confused and disorientated

    Italian here! Love Karl even more now 1000%! He is spot on. I get what he's saying and he's right about pasta/food culture (take your time/enjoy life/simplicity is best). Karl appreciates the simple things in life so I think Italy would suit his chilled out nature.

    • @mookX92
      @mookX92 Před rokem +1

      The way he explained it he made it sound like Italy is everything the UK's not. He's probably not that far off 😅

    • @anta3612
      @anta3612 Před rokem +1

      @@mookX92 Both cultures have their pros and cons. I think though, given Karl's personality, he'd fit right in in Italy. Also, Italy has a very old population (lots of old people compared to young people) and, since Karl tends to behave like an old person, it's another reason I think he'd fit in. 😊 However, while on holiday you only get to see the nice bits, living in Italy full time is another matter and presents it's own series of challenges and frustrations (tons of them). I can picture Karl having a good old moan after a while of living there. 🤣It would have made a fantastic show! I would have loved to watch Karl explore Italy. It's a shame that he's retired from show business although, to be fair, he only ended up in tv by accident.

    In the UK, the Salvation Army have charity shops to raise money but they also have community hubs run by volunteers , usually in places like a church or the local labour club, for people to just gather and chat. They serve meals aswell as supply clothes for people in need

      @vampmode9132 Před 7 měsíci

      Here in New Zealand they have their own establishments that run half a charity shop, in the office area, and a soup kitchen in the back. Shame they seem to keep closing down

    The Catholic Church banned crossbows in about 1060-1100 somewhere round then . They was seen as un-Christian , think it might have been the armour piercing ability seen as "ungodly". English Longbowman were considered the best archers in the world, they were highly trained soldiers specialised in that weapon. Not just random militia with weapons

    • @jimb9063
      @jimb9063 Před rokem +3

      Yes, not a hugely accurate section from Ricky. Crossbows were used by English armies too.

      They should’ve gotten rid of their swords and used wooden clubs. Using iron swords is too easy

    • @jimb9063
      @jimb9063 Před 11 měsíci

      @@carlmarston1687 Funnily enough, members of the Church often used a mace rather than a sword so they wouldn't draw blood(!).
      Not so different now, shooting and blowing people up is ok in war, but flammable munitions are deemed 'inhuman' in most situations.

    Yew Longbows were heavy, took extensive training and skill to use, but a well trained archer could hit a target at a much further range than crossbows, and fire more arrows compared to them. Crossbows were initially expensive to produce, but their advantage was that you could teach someone to use them in a very short amount of time, and anyone could use one and take out a knight in full plate armour with a lucky shot

    Ricky went down the wrong route with the crossbow example. Crossbows of any power were far slower to reload than longbows.
    There were crossbows that were very powerful but they took an age to reload.
    If crossbows were so easy for everyone, how come Genoese crossbowmen were in demand, as specialists, by French kings.
    There was a reason that English kings insisted on longbow practice, rather than simply hiring crossbow mercenaries.
    A better example of fsir play would be the Battle of Maldon, where the local English leader invited the vikings to cross the causeway he was defending, in order to have a fair fighr...and lost.

    • @MrEsphoenix
      @MrEsphoenix Před rokem +2

      Worth noting, the idea if not using crossbows out of a sense of honor comes from the Christian church, who for a time decreed it was unlawful to shoot a Christian with one. It was also likely supported by nobility who didn't like the idea that any untrained peasant could get hold of a weapon that could kill them before they even knew what was happening.
      And another better example of fair play that didn't and well would be the adoption of the machine gun. There's an interesting anecdote from the first commander of a British machine gun squadron and how he was shunned by the others in command. If I remember correctly, "warhorse" shows how that ended.

    I think if I had the option to be from somewhere else, I'd go Norway. Not specifically for the culture itself, but mostly because it's a beautiful country. Like geographically, it's stunning. Northern Lights, thousands of mountains, fjords, valleys, lakes, glaciers. Either that or New Zealand. Without sounding like a hippy, the natural beauty of a country matters to me more than trivial things like tax boundaries. I hate to shit on the UK because I don't hate it as a place to live, but we really don't have a lot of places that make you go "Woah."
    Lake District, Peak District, northern Scotland (which is 32,000 miles from literally everywhere in Britain, it's easier to get to Ascension Island than it is to get to Ben Nevis), parts of Wales but that's kind of it. I'm into photography and hiking so living somewhere like Norway would be so fascinating, I'd be in my element. Seeing places like Bergen and Kristiansund and then seeing Birmingham and Stoke, it just makes me so depressed that I have to put up with horrific grey Industrial Revolution towns and cities, everything's grey or a slightly different shade of grey, the roads are grey, pavements are grey, the sky is grey, the people are grey.
    I want vibrant colours, stunning landscapes, a mix between urban life and untouched nature and I'd be so happy.

      I have been to John o'Groats as a teenager and it only took a few hours to get there from Liecester where I was born. I don't see at all what you are getting at. Go north from Ayr and you will be in stunning areas of natural beauty in about 20 minutes that is on foot. There are these new fangled things called cars and trains that allow you to get to these extraordinary places, I guess you just haven't heard of them.
