Today i have recieved my new model 3 Highland. Amazing
They are so much better than the old one! Congrats! Jealous of the sound system.
One thing to keep in mind is the ranges on both vehicles. The new model 3 range is on the new EPA cycle. To give you an idea, my 2022 model 3 had a 358 mile range EPA and it got dropped to 333 miles (a 7% drop) on 2023 model because of the new EPA tests. This Model S is on the older cycle. So the model 3 would have roughly 365 miles EPA with the old testing.
Counting a standard 5% degradation on the used Model S, you are down from 400 miles to 380 miles. Suddenly the ranges are very similar with one being cheaper to run and faster to charge.
Thank you for the great comparison video, as you said it comes down to whether you need a civic sized city car or a family sedan. I’d say the model 3 works great for up to 2 adults and 2 kids. I’ve even done long road trips with 4 adults and it worked. So don’t underestimate how much you can fit in a 3 and still be able to park on the city streets with ease.
Thanks for adding to the conversation. I agree with everything you said. That said I still wish both cars would have a range of 400 miles. I think it would further push more adoption of the vehicles. While you and I both know 250 and 300 miles of range is more than enough. The general public apparently thinks that people fly have to stop at pee on road trips every few hours ha.

Only downside to those pre June 21 MS is the old heater they still used. For the folks who live in colder states. It’s something to consider on an already crippled battery loss from cold temps in the winter on top of a less efficient heater. But I would still argue you get the highest range in the fleet from 2020 I think to now. 400 miles on paper but still better than 341 on the M3. But if you’re on the market for a MS with new M3 money. Search and search for a MS June or later 21 cars or put more money down. They get all the new upgrades of the current released models and almost all of the upgrades the new M3 gets. If you’re going to get a pre June 21 MS without the rear screen or better audio or cooled seats etc. then at least shoot for the 2019 MS. Also the unlimited miles warranty only applies to pre 2020 MS IIRC.

wow, I didn't know the model s had that good of a warranty -- that's makes a big difference, I was basing it on the Model Y warranty which scared me away from the older Model S. Great video!

Agree with you about the small cabin-reminds me of my Chevy Volt. I found the 3 low to the ground, compared to my S. Have not tried the audio in the 3, but in the new X , Y and S, I found the audio to be a little thin sounding. And these were cars with premium audio. If your S sounds worse than a new 3, check to see if you have premium audio. One more thing I've noticed, is that the seats in the newer Teslas are 1 inch thinner in the seat bottoms than our OG cars. Also, Tesla did away with adjustable powered headrests sometime after the 2017 model year. Good job Drew!

Thanks for making this video. I’m facing exactly this choice right now: A new Model 3 LR or a used 2020 Model S LR, 100kwh battery, with about 50-60k km on it. The price is pretty much the same, +/- 5k EUR, depending on the specific S in question.
The good news is that you won’t be disappointed either way. They are both fun.
Interesting! This is the first time I hear that the Model S entry and exit is that different from the Model 3.
Also, do you have premium sound system on your Model S?
Undoubtedly the model S is harder to get in and out of ha! As for the sound, no I do not have a premium system currently.

Yes the newer ones are far improved sound.
I sat in a new Model 3 and also a new Model S here in the UK. The biggest difference for me was cabin quality build. Everything felt just so more solid. I'd go as far too say new audi or BMW quality. I didn't get to drive so good to hear the suspension is close to the S. I still won't get a 3 though due to the things you mention. Space, looks. Alas I'm stuck with legacy S as I won't drive a LHD here. Go get a 2nd hand new build S Drew.
I am eye balling the 2022 model s but not sure I will ever be comfortable paying more than 40k US. Maybe in another year I will take the leap.
Unfortunately i had to pay a premium for mine 2.5 years ago due to the delay on the new S. This meant £40k budget going up to £49k. At one point my particular model was going for 54k. Now though i'd be looky to get 30k. I guess i will keep her a while longer then 😂o@@DrewsReviews2023
I personally hate the new model 3's ambient lighting, it looks cheap and tacky. I much prefer the wood trimming.
Yep, perception is key. My perception and the reality is that I shall call my new Model X The BarfMaster, AKA to fast for my stomack.
I want to buy an x for my wife so we can have the best of both worlds. And I would like the ability to tow my toys too.
Driving dynamics is better on the model 3. Tires and charging is also cheaper. Also the $7500 tax credit brings the new model 3 to down to $32k base model or $40k LR. Also, the bumper to bumper warranty on a new Tesla. So the cost of repairs outside the battery is to be considered. Model S had those drive motor issues and door actuator’s, not sure if it’s been addressed. But model S is really nice looking and a proper business look. Like 3 series vs 5 series.
The newest model 3 certainly brings a lot of competition to a used model s but like you said I do still like the model s sleekness

Correct. It is no offense to those who drive the model 3 - For someone who is looking for a smaller car that is fine, but it is undoubtably smaller.
Air suspension, cabin size, 1 x driver display/gauge cluster Plus tablet - are my non-negotiables for an EV. It can be the fanciest model 3 or cybertruck….if it fails in any of those categories, no deal. MS is a drivers car

Aren't you losing out on the government subsidies if you buy a used Tesla?
The new model 3 does not currently qualify for the tax credit. If you buy a used Tesla under 25k you get around a 4K government tax credit though.
But you not include the $7,500 instant credit which take it down to around $40K.

I am curious to see what the 0-60 times on the ludicrous 3 are. I saw the leaked photos already.
I'm debating the two. Seems the plaid has alot more tire wear and maintenance issues. I have a model 3 performance and a X the x has sooo many issues compared to none with my 3 so that's something to consider

I thought I got it new enough where I wouldn't have as many issues but just in the one year of ownership I had to replace control arm, 12v battery, also the big High voltage battery, (thankully in warrenty)windows screech when I roll it down, and has several adjustments on the panels. Probably visited the service center 7 times so far.

I can see how you feel that it looks like a Kia. I felt like the exterior and interior looked better than the old 3. What did you feel looked cheaper?
