In this video I make a case for Battlefield: Titanfall. A crossover that no one wants, but I think would be pretty neat. A 128-player battlefield with giant mechs, wallrunning, and teamwork sounds like a pretty sweet first-person shooter to me.

This is a great idea, and is actually kinda what I want. Basically, make the artstyle in-between Titanfall 2 and titanfall 1, and make some new modes to the scale of battlefield while leaving the original game modes. Then, add the destruction of battlefield. Every map starts out perfect and players can destroy parts of the map.
Then for the campaign, I'll say make it co op (because I said so) (no it isn't necessary but I'd like it) and add some open combat style missions like the ones from the recently released MW3, where you are released into a massive map where you have an objective to complete. You can also customize your loadout (you're a pilot you get to do that), and can decide to go in guns blazing or quietly with silencers.
Finally, (this one is debatable), add the black market back. (Without microtransactions obviously but this is EA we're talking about, although Respawn does seem to have some sway, when they released the ttf1 map packs for free. I just enjoyed the burn cards, calling in A titan at the beginning of a match was just so fun. Even though I'd want the cards to be like that, for balancers sake (or rather for the small balance ttf2 has), I'd scale them down just a bit.

I have a titanfall theory, so titans are made of regenerative armour that, although being tough , isn't strong enough for effective use on other vehicles or pilots. That's why the batteries are green as they are not carrying power but more armour to be used. When a titan is doomed, it's completely out of armour and the system for armour regeneration is broken.

@@knatureknight7504 cool idea but I don't think they thought that far. Maybe it carries some resources to repair the titan, and the battery still has power to use for the repair system.
Cool idea but I think this is a case of trying to make the game mechanics make sense when the developers just wanted a way to repair titans, and decided to combine it with the rodeo mechanic

It also be cool to have non-titan ground vehicles.
What if you could zoom onto an enemy vehicle, throw the driver out, and take control it yourself like you can do in halo? This would be equivalent to a rodeo attack and therefore you could also grab onto friendly vehicles and hitch a ride.
it would also bring more "scale" to titans. Like, ronin is pretty cool but ronin who can cut helicopters in half? Hell yeah.
Also, titans like scorch and ronin might have trouble with helicopters so they might incentivize pilots to help titans out by dealing with certain vehicles.

@@boiledpotatos6029 you would need teamwork to deal with different vehicle types. Its a feature not a bug. Pilots could even help by grappling on and attaching satchel charges or whatever.
As for the map size, you could have booster pads that launch pilots (you could even make these deployable by players) and also allow titans to throw friendly pilots. either way, its important that your transportation solutions allow you to seamlessly go back to wall running upon arrival.

With the customisation of titans, I recall (but don't remember sauce) hearing that the devs chose the class system partially to favour visual clarity. I.E, if you saw a Northstar, you'd know to expect cluster rockets and tether traps. In Battlefield, there can be multiple types of a vehicle, such as scout and attack helicopters, which each have access to their own selection of items. I believe a similar system could work for titans, where certain weapons and abilities are restricted to certain chassis types. If you saw an ogre, you'd know they can deploy particle walls or trophy systems, while a stryder has access to e-smoke or tether traps, for example. This could also work to eliminate problematic meta builds, as you would be unable to create the perfect combination to win every scenario, no predator cannon stryders for you.

In my head titans wouldn't be able to win a ranged battle in most cases with a tank
the tanks role is inherently head to head combat. but if you make use of terrain and level geometry to flank, peek snipe it, etc, it changes a lot. The problem of course is if there's a teammate you might have to deal with them, but that's okay because your teammate has a helicopter-

I absolutely love this idea! However i think it might slow down gameplay in order to coordinate it. My solution would be to follow Swags idea of a "passive Titan ability" utilizing a launch pad on top of the titan, That can fling "pilots" a certain distance towards a destination with the press of a button (either from the titan player or pilots).
Imagine a squad sieging an objective with a long range titan while the other pilots utilize the launch pad to push the objective!

    • @picklejho69

Could just be that when a firendly pilot lands on a titans back and goes into jockey mode, they have the option of pressing a button to have the titan grab and fastball them without interfering with the Titan pilots ability to control their mech.
THis way you also leave it up to the pilot being thrown to choose where they are flung, so you get les intentional teawmkills by throwing into hazards or off cliffs or into adjacent walls.

How about every time a certain amount of people die, a titan becomes available for spawn, while people unable to spawn become BF Commanders? This way when the titan gets destroyed they can drop back in after hitting the area with orbital bombardment "cruise missile"? Chosen options would likely have a cooldown based off kills/objectives and need a group vote, where 14 people in the commanders' war room on each team need to agree through voice or text chat by a vote, meaning it can't be abused. When space becomes available, through either a titan or the lowest performing player becoming eliminated, the highest scoring commander gets immediately spawned with temp buffs or even a titan. This means gameplay won't get one-sided with spawn camping...

128 players is not worth it. Significantly harder to design maps (which have to be larger meaning less overall), shits the netcode (2042 has 45hz servers vs BF1/BFVs 60hz) and poor mode flow, less vehicle capacity, way less destruction, etc etc. There can be reason to do more than 64 but 128 isn't worth it. This would synergize pretty well with BF2042's vehicle customization approach where you either pick anti-armor or anti-infantry weaponry but you can't have both.
For example in your tank you can have HE shells for splash damage or AP shells for anti vehicle gameplay, so as a Titan you're not only looking out for potential infantry threats like engineers with rocket launchers, landmines, or C4, but also for enemy Titans and Vehicles which can all have different combinations of offensive and defensive abilities that basically kill off any chance of a meta-defining "All in One" powerhouse build, you can either be really good at killing infantry, vehicles, or titans, but you can't be all three at once.
So a strong anti-tank Titan build would stay away from buildings or dense infantry objectives and instead focus on hunting down vehicles behind enemy lines or on the flanks, and of course the counter would be an Engineer who has a build for killing titans. On the flip side, a strong anti-infantry Titan build would stay in the fray, surrounding themselves with infantry and close quarters combat to not only tear through enemies but also to shield themselves from enemy anti-vehicle players who aren't well equipped for infantry threats. The counter for this would probably be an arial vehicle like a jet or helicopter which can send out strong anti-tank weapons from beyond the short range of the high damage anti-infantry weapons.
Sort of like a tiered system, where Infantry are the "Weakest" but relatively the most versatile, traditional vehicles are the middle ground, offering high to moderate firepower for one or more scenarios, and then finally Titans at the top of the food chain, either being highly specialized superweapons or a Jack of all trades "Infantry but better" kind of build.
Instead of a combat triangle like Paper > Rock > Scissors > Paper it's like a combat dodecahedron where Mobility, Damage, and Tankiness can be arranged in dozens of different ways so every single fight is interesting instead of the common Battlefield meta where you just get in a tank and you're now invincible as long as you sit in the back of the map the whole game.

I love the thought of a smart pistol that heals people lol.
Anyways, maybe there could be classes split between types of pilots and ground troops/grunts so not every player is a pilot.
Ground troops could have better support options and better access to non-titan (or anti-titan) vehicles and assets. I feel like it’d give the boots on the ground players an option to continue that play style while also being lore friendly, since i don’t think Titanfall battles were fought with mass numbers of pilots in open fighting

@@MJS-lk2ejI was brainstorming a near-future battlefield type game a while back and came to your same conclusion.
In my view modern tanks still have an important role because they have a low, flat form compared to mechs which allows them to conceal most of the tank behind hills. Modern tanks also have a very high speed in straight lines.
Mechs/Titans have an advantage in crossing impassable terrain with their articulated legs, but legs cannot safely reach and sustain the same top speeds as wheels or tank treads. The lightest titan frame could maybe move almost as fast as a tank or APC but realistically it would be dangerous and unstable and would likely be programmed to run below the limit. Their other disadvantage is they are very tall and can’t be concealed in open areas. They could crouch behind hills but still be mostly exposed compared to tanks.
Titans would have a better time fighting in tight areas with tall buildings or extremely rough terrain and tanks would dominate at long ranges in open, hilly spaces.

    • @MJS-lk2ej
      @MJS-lk2ej Před 7 měsíci +7

@@alexwhite3959 yeah, I think the same way. alot of people compare mechs to tanks, but that is a fallacy, a mech has many more similarities to a helicopter despite not being airborne, and the way you would use a mech is a combination of Tank and Helicopter Doctrine. I mean the developers of Titanfall subconsciously came to this same realisation with the Northstar class of Titan (and in anime where mechs are basically jets).

This would incentivize actually playing the game to get vehicles instead of waiting in the menu for five minutes to get your help back only to lose it by some guy with a better setup than yours as well as allow for a more diverse playing field.

With a developing game like The Finals being made of devs who have actively worked on battlefield, i think their team are capable of producing this kind of concept. In fact, i think their game more effectively lines up with the idea ive always had for a "King of the Titan" style game mode. Where multiple squad style teams fight over a titan objective instead of cashing out a money vault. The match loop would be fighting over some kind of titan-mech in order to reach a point threshold like in The Finals. Points earned start when a captures a neutral titan, with bonus points for kills while they have the titan. Other teams can earn points by Capturing the titan from another squad or by destroying the titan AND/or by doing the most damage to the titan!

I think this would be a super cool idea! My two biggest pieces of constructive criticism are both wrapped up in the titans: maybe it could be cool to have the other earnable assets you mentioned in a sequence with the titan at the end? IE, first you get an airdropped special weapon, then an airstrike, then the titan or something like that. A more casual and more toned-down version of the kill streaks in CoD but you save progress between deaths. The other piece of constructive criticism is I think having fully customizable titans would cause havoc - as I recall that was one of the biggest complaints with the first Titanfall. I do, however, fully advocate more customization for each titan. Maybe they could have like three branching upgrade paths or something with a slightly different focus in each. All over all though, I think this is a super fun idea! The concept of calling in a drop-pod in game and smashing into the frontlines with three other pilots is perhaps one of the coolest ideas for a battlefield type game I have ever heard.

Great video, Swag! I'm glad you're also a Titanfall enjoyer, and it's a pleasant surprise since I started following you for your news coverage. (Yes, I did see your older Titanfall videos.)
From what I've seen there seems to be a lot of TF|2 players that also play Battlefield, including myself. What you're describing here has been on my mind for a long time, and I think it's a concept really worth exploring.
Your ideas are solid, but let me add to the discussion.
Firstly, although many may not see it as that important, I think the artstyle is a big part of what makes a game. A return to TF1's gritty industrial style would be great, mixed in with BF2042's realism. Apex Legends obviously followed the Fortnite path of being cartoony and pleasant-looking, but I don't think it would be compatible with a proper Titanfall/Battlefield game. I think it would be best if Apex was completely left out of this as its own thing, seeing as it's completely different gameplay-wise and narratively. Even in Battlefield people weren't very happy about the hero shooter esque "operators".
As for the timeline, it's easy to see such a game set somewhere between 2042 and 2142 (or perhaps even after 2142) in Battlefield terms, and in Titanfall terms obviously after the IMC reinforcements arrive in the Frontier. The latter especially fits the bill perfectly.
I must agree with your idea of Battlefield-sized maps with Titanfall parkour routes, but a lot depends on how A.I. is handled. If standard attrition rules were enforced, with every player being a pilot, I think scaling down the maps a bit and cutting the player count to 64 would make the maps much more lively, feeling more like constant war, everywhere, all the time. Another possibility that would fit the 128 player count would be that players start as grunts and earn their way to becoming a pilot. This would obviously be hard to nail down, depending on how pilots are handled.
Battlefield: Titanfall may just be a fantasy, but by god, if I were to only have one fantasy in my life it would be this. Again, amazing video. Thanks for sparking conversation about this topic.

    @Adamnlaw Před 7 měsíci +3

    Yes please !!
I had wondered what this would be like if it was balanced in a style where 1 team was pilots + titans and the other would be standard humans + vehicles.
Imagining a small amount of titans and pilots vs large amount of Battlefield style humans and jets etc. seemed better the more I thought of it, just as Sir Swag said.
Although the way Swag suggested is much better than my tasty food for thought when waiting for a TF2 match...
Thanks you for putting this into words + a video team Swag
P.s. the only reason people play Apex is because they didn't make Titanfall 3...
Btw Is it a coincidence that it's in the same engine as the Half Life series?

It would be cool to take a page from starwars battle front and take the fight into space sometimes (for some objectives and maps).
The game implies that there are huge starships in orbit dropping titans and infantry. They probably don't just peacefully coexist in orbit while their forces are waging war on the surface.
Boraring parties could be basically playing amped hardpoint trying to sabotage the reactor or whatever, wading through a sea of grunts with titans squeezing through tight corridors, while titans and whatever else fight on and around the hull of the ship(s) taking out gun turrets and dealing damage directly.
This was kind of present in the titanfall 2 campaign to a limited and scripted extent. boarding hostile ships and hacking consoles on the bridge, while having titan battles on the surface of the ship (fighting viper)
If you want to go totally nuts you could declare that titans have magnetic feet and can walk on any surface of the ship in zero gravity. You could walk down the side of your ship with a doomed titan and eject directly into the enemy ship, take crazy angles with a sniper titan, and just generally play zero G attrition.

At the one minute mark, THAT'S when it turns into sudden death, to both simulate the lack of numbers, and to make the finale even more intense!

the idea of the drop pod is good, in fact, the same system used in Planetside 2 ought to be used here. literally just copy/paste it. you set down a Transponder Beacon, it fires a laser in the skies, picked up by a space ship which sends down pods of soldiers. its great!
