Why I quit social media: my honest thoughts and reasons

- Where have I been? I've been living life just as everyone should! However, to live my fullest and best life I've had to let go of social media. Social media has influenced my life for the best and for the worst. It's been several years since I step on a social media platform and I've felt much better. I don't know when I will return fully to social media, but at the moment I'm only going to stick to CZcams. Here are the reasons why I've stepped away. Hence these are only my personal experiences! I'm learning and growing every day!

I recently bought a flip phone. Best decision I've ever made in my entire life. Ads are constantly shoved down our throats and when you start researching the loneliness epidemic and how modern infrastructure is made to isolate us in the States it really brings you perspective. At the end of the day we long for food, water, shelter, and love. A tribe.

I like my iPhone and have no intention of giving it up; it's far to useful to me. Of course, I don't have any social media apps on it, since I don't use any of those services. It's the social media that is the problem, not the device.

I hope someone sees this comment…I have not been on social for about 7 months now. And thinking about it makes me proud. I was so sick of seeing people fake everything for social media. I no longer compare my life to others’ and don’t care to impress others. I live more in the moment and enjoy being private. ❤

I’m always intrigued how no social media affects different people, I have also been off all self centred social media like Facebook/Instagram besides CZcams for awhile now, great video!!!

I deactivated my Instagram, treads, and Facebook because I found tons of the content to be flat out annoying. The consistent rude comments, the unprovoked drama, the fact I say content I was NOT subscribed to (or was not even following the person posting the content I did not ask for lol) was just a buzz kill. Not to mention I am over the overly sexual content/innuendos on these platforms, like omg ENOUGH! I I don't really go on Twitter aka "X" much anyway and it is not as bad (if it gets rough I am able to block content on there easily). I love CZcams because it is NOT like the other platforms AT all (mind you I ignore the reels and have blocked out videos and content creators I do not like).

This is a great video with hard truths , especially the part where you mention about letting go people in journey was much needed for me . I had been sticking on the Instagram thinking I will take everyone who I meet in my life till the end , which is useless and there is not meaning or value to it .. Infact you might not be anything to them as you carry them along . This hit me hard and I was convinced enough to quit successfully

I never felt the need to take a break from social media because I'm SO strict with what I allow to reach me. If anybody I'm friends with posts something that bothers me.. MUTE.. Like half the people I'm friends with are muted lol I don't care.. and if I ever see something from an account I don't like.. BLOCK! No joke I have thousands of accounts blocked. And I have different instagram profiles.. 1 is just for people I actually know, another account is for people I like that I don't personally know, and another is for artsy type accounts, etc.. and I'm constantly shaping the algorithms to not show me anything controversial or violent. And it gets boring after like 10 minutes since I'm so strict with what I see that I just naturally log off . Gotta be very proactive because these algorithms are designed to engage people with chaos.
Thanks for sharing. I am reflecting on a lot of the points that you made for quitting social media. I was struck in particular by what you said about how some people are just meant for a season of our life and also by what you said about how social media negatively affects our sense of self.

I’ve finally taken the step also to delete my instagram & it’s been over a week. In the past I would take 3 month breaks of getting off and found myself getting back on & notice how it affect my mood & wellness… I don’t see myself getting back on any social sights & focus more on living the life God has given me’ i appreciate listen to your story& love your beautiful Hair & smile 😊

I deleted all of my social media accounts 2 years ago and now I've reached a point where I want to use a flip-phone ('dumbphone' - Sunbeam F1 Pro) and a laptop exclusively. If someone would like to communicate with me, then they can call and we can have a conversation. I listen to FM radio in the car, so zero need for streaming music while driving. If I need directions, then I'll buy US road atlas and perhaps a small Garmin navigation device for the car. I've felt a tremendous need to return to analog world, where things are real and tangible. I own two small Fuji cameras that take remarkable photos, I've been enjoying getting back to photography instead of relying on computation Apple magic which saves my photos in a super condensed file which makes editing them impossible. I'm currently reading Jonathan Haidt's new book 'The Anxious Generation' which details the rewiring of America's youth (Gen Z and beyond) due to having a phone/screen based childhood, rather then a play-based childhood. I support your stance and decisions to better your life. Embrace reality and your individualism, and seek out genuine relationships based in actual communication.

Hello. I see the platforms in a different way. I have used all of them for their search engines. I'm more into visual arts, any other types of arts. Usually I'm searching museums, or virtual art galleries. I'm not into socializing with anyone, or interacting either. If I like an art work I will say it. I'm not searching for followers either. I don't have those feelings to want anything, or comparing. I see thes places as tools. I use my time wisely. I don't even have the notifications of any application on. I always forget they are on the phone. I am always busy doing other things. I'm an artist, music composer. I dedicate myself to my creativity. Anything else is not that important.

I deleted Facebook and instagram and tiktok of my phone cause people bullying and rude remarks from strangers not good for mental health
good for you! less noise is better for your mental health!
I deleted my FB account in 2022 and I don't regret it. 😊

Couldn't get through the video without checking out. I'm days away from leaving the last form of social media i have left- CZcams.
Just doesn't hit like it used to and the ads are boring af. "Art imitates art" right? At this point its an insult. The same hamster wheel over and over.
Life is a more applealing and people are too sensitive online. Even content creators will preach about it and then be hypocritical twaords others. Hell, social media has the majority of people in a chokehold for validation, views, ego boosts, money, you name it. Too easily malleable if you ask me.
Good luck on your journey in a free life. Lol but we know thats not going to happen .. for the ladder.

Does youtube count as social media? Because im trying to quit social media but i just started a youtube channel and uploaded some videos yesterday

For me CZcams is an information platform. The like system is private so less narcissistic and no fake friends
