    I've been focusing the last few months in not the way i draw details and stuff bc it felt like i wasn't really improving at all or i was improving backwards but then i find out that the reason that i wasn't really improving was bc i was focusing my attention in something that even if i managed to perfection would not look good bc my composition were bad, my colors doesn't match each others, my brush work was so hard and doesn't bring anything interesting to my drawings and this app were somehow the answer bc it forces me as you say (to think in the big picture and not only focusing on small details) of im still learning but i did manage to get more interesting results in my paintings while enjoying the process

    That is interesting application. Thank you for pointing on it, never heard before!
    Myself, currently I stuck at traditional drawing (graphite pencils and ink) and painting (watercolors). It is just personal hobby and spiritual need for me, nothing more. I feel my own growth of skills over time, but it is rather slow and gradual. Simply not enough practice and still a lot of fears. Btw, for this year have plans to come out on plain airs. First time in life ) Moreover, organize them, find like-minded people, so that it is not so scary.
    Periodically I try to dive in digital drawing which is part of the dream :) With ArtRage mostly, but also have Krita, SketchBook and Blank Ink. I absolutely love AR, but feel that my current skills just don't scale enough to digital domain, results are disappointing mostly. And has concluded, that it is mostly because I drown in all it's capabilities, tools and millions of colors. My watercolor palette has 24-28 most of the time )
    Definitely will give a try for this simple and limited tool!
    And thank you for your videos, I love your art and the way of thinking.

    Ohh this looks super interesting. If I'm doing ref based work I color pick quite a lot but stubbornly push myself out of it when doing original stuff from the noggin, keeps me way more engaged. This app seems to stick to that principle, so I ought to give it a shot too. Awesome painting too!

      Totally! This app is all about refining your painting instincts! It's a little bit unusual to start painting with but it has a very logical arrangement of tools once you get the hang of it. I've tried several times to install the PC version of this app on a Windows 10 machine. However since it doesn't have the appropriate digital signature it won't install. Windows 10 used to allow a user to go ahead and install an application anyway, but that capability seems to have gone away with the latest version of Windows 10 20H2...anyone else having this issue? Here is the dialog message "Windows protected your PC. Microsoft Defender SmartScreen prevented an unrecognized app from starting. Running this app might put your PC at risk. its great that people are using tools to make art.... but from the beginning when I was talking to the creator of heavy paint in a livestream I said "you know photoshop has all these tools....this is just like a really shitty cut down photoshop" .....then I had everybody in the stream jump on me with "well what about this! well what about this!?".....yes....yes.....PS has alllll of those tools. You can use photoshop exactly like HP.....then it came to "well the limitations are the whole point! it makes you a better painter!".....ok but again you can limit yourself in PS. I love the tools, I love artrage because it has tools that you cant make in PS. I love blender because the 3d in photoshop just isnt that good....but if tommorow PS ceased operations I would just use affinity photo or something...... I see all these people evangelizing Heavy paint.....but I have no fucken clue why because if you close everything in PS except the brush box and the RGB slider and change the background to grey you have literally the exact same thing and you didnt have to spend 20$ on it.
    Its about "new" thats all it is....everyone wants something "new" and its easier to associate that with buying something different instead of learning to use something you already have.
    anyways thats my rant. Lots of kids and amateurs will buy HP but it wont do anything for you that PS isnt already giving you....and again im not an adobe fan im just for people using the shit they already own and lets be real every art pro uses PS....

    • @DanielIbanez
      @DanielIbanez  Před 3 lety +3

      I understand the criticism and yet I would offer that I don't find that what I like about it to have a direct analogue in photoshop. In some ways, yes, it is like a cut down version of Photoshop... But not in other ways. I actually paint most of my digital work in photoshop and have a course with Domestica using Photoshop coming out soon. It is my most used painting tool by far. And I still think there is a good deal unique about Heavy Paint. I agree that I could craft a set of brushes to mimic some of the brushes. And yes, 100% to a portion of the UI stuff. But there is plenty that you can't simply do or make equal in Photoshop. I feel the tool curation and ui design are a really nice combo... Especially for mobile devices. And for quick digital plein air sessions... It is awesome. I would never turn to this as my singular or top app, but it has a place in my instructor paradigm for sure! All of that said, (and I 100% agree) Artrage stands alone in the digital space for it's truly unique offering. There is nothing like it in all of the digital art world. Artrage is uniquely powerful, surprisingly versatile, and anachronistic (in a good way). Artrage is still the first and last digital tool I use with my students because of how good it is at doing digital oil paint. Right now I use Photoshop, artrage, Rebelle, and Heavy Paint. I dabble with (but don't have a place for) clip studio, infinite painter, painter, realistic studio, and a couple others... But my job is to keep playing with what's out there and try to bring in things that will help young painters. Currently, I teach photoshop and artrage the most by far. Thank you for your thoughts, I can definitely see where you are coming from! I will keep examining it all and will definitely always have artrage in my tool kit. Best wishes, Daniel

      Photoshop doesn't have fill lasso, you need a plugin. Otherwise you must lasso then fill, it is clunky. Photoshop also doesn't have the stretchy feel of oil brush, it feels more tactile and tangible in heavy paint. Photoshop can do mostly everything heavy paint can, but it takes more clicks
