My baby had sepsis when he was 10 months. He had a high fever, took him to the hospital and they said it was a virus, went back home. Next day, high fever and took again and this time I said I am not leaving this places until you do a blood panel and something for my son…they did a blood panel and asked me if I wanted to stay in the hospital waiting for the result..of course I did, in the meantime they gave him antibiotics “just in case” ( that saved him). 12 hours later blood panel revealed salmonella that became a blood infection. Very hard days. Today, he is 13 months, he is healthy thank God, he immune system is kind of weak, we are taking our time to recuperate.

I've watched several of these sepsis videos, to date, and it seems to me that many medical professionals are slow to recognize sepsis. I think in addition to educating the public, more needs to be done to make the medical community more alert to the symptoms of sepsis and make sure hospitals are equipped to treat it. It's amazing how Michael is adjusting to his "new normal".

as an EMT, the amount of advanced medical professionals who don’t recognize the red flags for sepsis is terrifying to me.

These people, like most, did do the right thing, they took him in to be seen. The problem is that too many health professionals still don't recognise sepsis and send then away! So by the time they finally do get treatment, it's either too late, or they're letft facing multiple amputations

That poor mom. I'm so sorry her little boy and his family had to go through that. I know what it's like to almost lose your child. Our son had cancer when he was a teenager.

I would really appreciate being able to get in touch with the family in this video. My 4 year old niece requires 4 amputations following septic shock and I note in the video months were allowed to pass before amputation occurred. I am very keen to understand the journey post sepsis to amputation and beyond.
