    Great videos to help getting started with d checker. Some cooling scenarios would be great in cooling season and some of your insights in to targets you look for troubleshooting and process. Thanks!

    I was actually thinking about a bad thermistor for that freeze up, but the low charge makes sense. Question, you've probably covered it on other vids but what initiates and terminates our defrost cycles? Your info is gold bro, what a resource!!

    Have a unit that looks exactly like your picture right now that I have to service tomorrow. Unit is only 2 weeks old with a 15ft lineset. I noticed when I opened the valve the first time it didn't have the same sound of the normal rush of refrigerant so I thought it was low out of the box. So I tested the unit in heating and cooling with the ambient temperature around 60 degrees and the unit was making good heating and cooling temps. And my pressure looked pretty good on my guages also. So I called it good.
    I got the picture from the customer and first thought was a junk thermistor. But now seeing how the D checker works. I have to move past my old school ways and get this tool.
    Great video.

      Especially if it's a mini split. Vrv you have pressure transducers to look at and gauges can sometimes help confirm a few things. But mini splits not having anything on indoors makes gauges almost impossible. Great feedback Jason, hope you are able to resolve things in a timely manner. The dchecker helps a TON when looking at the flow cycle. If you think it's low weigh it out and verify charge. Could be low, could be non condemsibles, could be restriction, bad sensor or lots of potential other things so dchecker will absolutely help to reduce some of those possibilities.

      Yes it is a mini split. I will keep you posted on what I find. Thanks again.

      Well Dana I went out and hooked up my new d checker after the unit has been off a few days and all the ice melted off. Unit was cranking heat and I had a 10 degree split from outdoor temp to my outdoor coil. 160 degree discharge and had no issues I could find. Expansion valve was at 330 but I had the unit wide open bringing indoor temp from 43 to 80. I called my area Daikin field service tech and he thinks it may be excessive cold rain blowing onto the coil and not defrosting all the way off. So I lifted the unit about a inch off the pad and put some plywood on the top to block some rain. We will see what happens as you know it's going to be cold the next few days

      @@jasongeorge125 freezing rain, snow, shoot even fog in some cases can always start that ice up early. I've actually seen units defrost the coil completely but due to a layer of ice there's the smallest gap between the coil and layer of ice so the thermistor thinks it's good to go.
      Also make sure the stat isn't shutting off the head immediately after a call it can in some cases cause defrost issues. RIP daikin Envi stat lol. Curious if the Daikin One will be similar because it shuts the unit off to prevent overshoot.

    Hi Dana, really enjoy the videos. I am new to using the Bluetooth service tool and your videos have been a great help.
    With the data being recorded I have emailed the data to my office but they cannot open information sent, do I have to use a Daikin programme to open the sent data. Regards bob

    Hi, I want to control indoor by d checker, can this be done?

  • @cranbers
    @cranbers Před 3 lety

    Hey in the Daikin one thermostat, if you go into dealer edit, system optimization, status menu, it has all those fields in there that the D checker has, but nothing populates, and sometimes you will see readings for de icer or heat exchanger. But other times not. Do you know if this information is supposed to populated in there ?
    On another note: So I have a VRV life system the 4 ton with A coil., broke with that L5 error, new outside unit was installed, New unit was not working right, humidity in my house was crazy like 60 - 70 percent. After complaining and asking my hvac company to check sub cooling while in mode 20, ( they never did on install). My unit was 2.2 lbs over charged. 450 psi head pressure and sub cool at 26. heat exchanger was at 50 degrees and this was full speed on a 90 degree day. watched sub cooling and took out 5 oz at a time and watch sub cool drop to 12 degrees which is what install manual says. But the PSI pressure fluctuates by 50 psi. So Daikin said to put the D checker on and monitor. Seeing what happens after that is done.

    • @cranbers
      @cranbers Před 3 lety

      @@InverterAlways Thanks for the response :) So If you look at Daikin install manual for 48 / 60 units, page 15 section 10-3. Final charge adjustment, it says to set in mode 20 (on), run for 60 mins then check for sub cooling 12 degrees plus or minus 1 for my "48" unit... It never mentioned mode 6 forced on, it just said " And of course I read it wrong and my hvac tech doesn't know this system so he was looking to me, It says mode 7 on as well. SC Adjustment, ( subcooling adjustment for refirgerant addition. ) So I dont know what effect that would have on sub cooling readings.. since it was NOT in forced mode on, guess I have to write them an email haha telling them that. Maybe too much was removed since sub coolign wouldn't be accurate. Thanks again for your input your great...

    • @cranbers
      @cranbers Před 3 lety

      @@InverterAlways Any idea why they have different modes? example mode 20 add refrigerant mode, 21 remove refrigerant mode... I wonder exactly what that does, because my hvac guys added / removed refrigerant without that.

    • @cranbers
      @cranbers Před 3 lety

      @@InverterAlways So the fun thing is 2.2 lbs is exactly what was added during install, according to line set lenght worksheet. but it was testing too high on sub cooling today in mode 20. So it was removed to get it to 12 degrees. So wonder if my unit is low now, I mean the compressor noise changed after all that was removed.

    • @cranbers
      @cranbers Před 3 lety

      @@InverterAlways One other question, have you ever seen any of those alarm codes for low charge / high charge? You would think if I was low now it would trip right? Or if I had 2.2 lbs extra it would of tripped too much?

    • @cranbers
      @cranbers Před 3 lety

      @@InverterAlways So their plan is to come back out let my house get to 78 degrees, put the d checker on and measure for 30 mins how it performs trying to get by down to low 70's. Daikin is involved now, this is my 2nd unit and I don't think Daikin is too happy with my hvac guys. I went to another company and they told me my unit should haven no issues with humidity or keeping set temp, and they called their daikin rep telling them my story, they then went to my hvac guys asking what was going on. so that is why we are back at this point haha.
