Wow what an incredible product. Now this is the kind of art I look for in an action figure for my collection. Rarely is everything in one package, but this could easily go with Veteran William or Blademaster. Initially curious to see your reactions on a product such as this, it was a great video watching how enthusiastic you get when there is a good product in your hands.

I've bought from obscure or lesser known brandss. I recently got the Alphamax DarkAdvent model kits mostly because i was in a store and had never seen the box before. And i mostly got it due to the fact it had cover art by Masatsugu Saitou who was the character designer for Xenoblade 2 and 3, and Expelled From Paradise

Most definately collect obscure small companies. What I have found is little companies are like the AVIS commercial against was to HERTZ car rental. They just TRY HARDER when it comes to sculpt, accessories and articulation. Also these small indi companies have the best chance of becoming future collectibles. Maistro Union FuRay planet Crocker started being a alternative concept for Ninji Turtles Leatherhead or DC's Killer Crock but NO MORE Maistro Union stands alone as a premium brand and FuRay Planets Veteran William is selling out purely on word of mouth and is on EVERYONE'S top 10 list for 2023, and now the Weng blade master Tiger is setting the community on fire. Surprised you haven't reviewed those yet especially Veteran William which is considered close to perfection.

When collecting from an original IP or any IP established or otherwise, I mostly grab what I think looks cool or what I like. However, for Original IP's Sculpt and Paint is a huge influence on my decision to buy something, great Articulation is a nice bonus but not necessarily and deal breaker if it doesn't have it. Mostly I grab things that I like. If I like something and can afford to get it at the time, I see it, I'll get it. Like this figure on Looks alone is a reason for me to get it, as it would look great on a shelf or in a display.

I collect primarily mainline stuff like Black Series, Legends, and GI Joe. I have gotten a few items from more indie companies/designer toys lately because they are putting out interesting stuff. I would consider Mezco and Four Horsemen to be indie companies despite their huge catalogues. I am also liking the anthropomorphic animal lines from Maestro Union. Veteran William has so much versatility with his looks that it was a no brainer for me. So yeah when it comes to indie figures I just get what is aesthetically pleasing to me, but I always check reviews to make sure that the figure doesn't break, fall apart, etc.

First off, I'm always personally impressed by your knowledge of non-human animal biology lol Words like "scutes," "plantigrade" and "digitigrade"ーthat make *most* people (or so it seems ‐.‐) kinda' go, "Uhh huh?" I dig that 👌
As far as the figure goes, I love it. It does have kind of a Neca/Storm feel to it. The aesthetics are amazing. I feel like they could've done a bit more with the paint on theーI dunno... pink/peach parts; but the darker parts, with the crimson accents look great for the most part. And the eyes are really good too, very menacing hehe
Typically, I don't care for cloth or felt on action figures, but it looks like they did this well enough. I actually like the way the fur looks on it.
Lastly, as per the question of the day goes: yes, I would happily buy a figure just based on how it looks. Of course, I'd prefer something that has some kind of franchise behind it, but if a figure looks good enough, I'd grab it regardless.

These days, I collect mostly from indie companies. Mythic Legions/Cosmic Legions, Valaverse, Savage Crucible, a few others. One of the common denominators being the owners are toy lovers/collectors/designers themselves, that create with their hearts to put out a great product, which is almost always better and cheaper than main line or established companies. I still grab up the occasional cherry picked Joe, or Transformer (which I've been a huge 3rd party fan of) but it is getting more and more infrequent. I've always been one to try and support the local economy, as it were, and love meeting and conversing with these companies at toys shows, when the opportunity presents itself. Most importantly, they care.

I actually wish I had more resources to devote to such things, but I collect a lot of stuff and both money and space is a factor. I really like Boss Fight Studio as a company and I'd love to jump into their Saurozoic Warriors line. The line has a nice retro look, but with modern engineering, I just don't know what I'd do with the line at the moment though so I've held off. In general though, I'd much rather give a company like Boss Fight my money over one like Hasbro. With smaller companies, I at least get the sense that the people working on the figures actually like what they're designing and have the consumer in mind as opposed to just regurgitating yet another Spider-Man or Batman to keep the stockholders happy.

I like collecting independent figures that fit into other franchises I collect. Mainly Resident Evil, MOTU and GI Joe. Also, this T-Rex figure is sick, I'm not a fan of the pink color though. This would fit really well with other MOTU figures.

I dig new properties, I've actually moved almost entirely away from legacy IPs. I do obey the "rule of cool" it has to appeal visually, but then within that, articulation, especially range of motion, is key. I actually don't mind having to do painting chores, that's my favorite aspect of customisation. And I'm learning to sew cloth goods, so getting them on the figures is fine, but i don't mind making accessories either.
But i find the smaller toy companies (i hate calling them third party) are far more willing to explore new visual aesthetics, new or better articulation, and varied scaled, and most of the time, they're willing to pack so much more into the box per dollar than the big companies do. I'd much rather buy fewer figures that are more standout and unique figures than another 10 Spider-Man figures.
To boot, as an overall, i have pieces in my collection from 5 decades of toy making now, and i consider my collection a micocosm of the evolution of action figures... so at some point, i have the hasbro figures represented, i have the mattel figures represented, they're not innovating anything anymore. These small companies are giving us ornate sculpts, expressive articulation and enough accessories to allow me more than one display option. They're TRYING and they're advancing the artform. I want those advances in my collection. That way, when my kids are liquidating the collection after i die they can go on this tirade about evolving art to the poor shit trying to buy my toys. 😅

I get alot of stuff that is not established IP. Xesray stuff, got some of the Furay planet stuff like veteran william and the tiger i forget his name. got some mythic legions, valaverse. I get stuff that are not official as well...like i got a huge "Diablo" Figure from 5k toys..thing is sick.

I have preferred it more if the head of much larger kind of like the street sharks figure of the 90's. But that's all just preference I guess.

I collect unestablished IPs! Or IPs that I have no emotional connection to. But it has to do with a lot of things. Cool looks, cool themes, good quality (meaning great sculpts, paint and or articulation), price, etc. For example, I collect Mythic Legions because they not only make knight action figures (a theme I love!), but because they look amazing, have great sculpts and paints, decent articulation and plenty of accessories. Price is also a big deal of course, Mythic Legions are really amazingly priced in the US but internationally they are harder and more expensive to get. Still, they are really worth it.
Another example is GI Joe classified. No, they're not indie but I have no emotional connection to the franchise. I've never watched the movies, the cartoon or comics. But I buy a few of their figures because they tend to be well sculpted, have fantastic articulation, plenty of accessories, and are readily available and at a decent price. Or Neca's Warduke, another figure from a franchise I have no connection to but I bought the figure because it looks incredible on the display.
So there are a lot of reasons. Personally, I never liked dinosaurs enough to buy toys of them, so this line and others like it don't appeal to me at all.

I do collect from non established IPs. If it’s fits an aesthetic I enjoy or it is making things I don’t think established ips will ever do like eastern culture/mythology figures.

I decided if I want to add something to my collection that is not from an established I.P. by if it can interact with what I have collected.
Wilderness Hunter Crocker is my stand in NECA movie Leatherhead.
I buy goblins to fight my Goblin Slayer, Conan, and Link. Bought 6 movie Storm Shadows and 6 Marvel Legends Paladins to be jabroni fodder for my figures to fight.
If a character looks cool, and is generic enough to fight my other characters, I don't mind buying them.

Yes, but only after watching reviews where the quality is nice, it's in stock and sold on BBTS preferably. JoyToy, Mythic Legions and Maestro Union Furay figures for example.

I do have a bunch of model kits that aren't based on an IP, but this figure would definitely not be something I'd be interested in. Too busy, to much of the pink showing in joints, too expensive.
However, if they produced some of that armor in 6in scale, that is something I might be interested in.

I love indies, I would rather spend my money on the little guys. Valaverse, AWOK, Mytbic Legions, Plunderlings and Mighty Maniax and more on my shelves. Looks catch my eyes first but a great story or lore will keep me interested.
