What a gift these studies are to me, as others have said. I love my church, and they aren't yet able to offer these type of lessons to us, as hard as they work to help us grow. I am so grateful to be able to learn so much from your lessons. I had no idea of all the typology in the Bible, I'm so happy to be learning so much here!

Hi Mike - I am a late-comer to your videos. I have been enjoying this series greatly as I enjoy tracking down typology my self. ~15 years ago I also concluded that protecting Benjamin was likely Joseph's primary goal. It was a side conclusion of another type I was looking at. You are the first person I have run across who also views it that way. The dozens of commentaries I have reviewed have almost uniformly referred to it all as an elaborately planned test of the brothers. I would call it a rescue plan that surprisingly proved the brother's new found integrity.

The typology of Jesus Christ is very important and I don't know that there is a more complete picture than Joseph. When I was a weak Christian with little knowledge of the scriptures, I remember to this very day when I was sitting and reading Genesis and the Holy Spirit revealed to me Joseph was a picture of Jesus Christ. I remember calling my wife and showing here that he was hated and betrayed by his own brethren, sold for pieces of silver by Judah, that he becomes savior of the world (Egypt) that in a time of great tribulation the famine he is revealed to his brothers who look on him who they pierced. His coat was stripped off of him dipped in goats blood representing sins placed upon him.
Also as noted Joseph was beloved of his father, that he was wrongly condemned and cast into an Egyptian prison when two convicts one saved another lost like the two crucified alongside Jesus. Every knee bowed and he was second in power only to the Pharaoh King of Egypt but all authority was given to Joseph just like God the father gives it to Jesus Christ. Joseph also married a gentile bride. Thank you for the video brother Winger...
John 5:39-47 King James Version (KJV)
39 Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me... 46 For had ye believed Moses, ye would have believed me; for he wrote of me.47 But if ye believe not his writings, how shall ye believe my words?

Mike, that was absolutely superb. I’ve always had a special love for the story of Joesph, I’ve known and preached on some of the typology myself, but you really brought out some deeper meanings with this teaching. What a wise, all knowing, merciful God we serve. I feel there is something in the 2 years of famine to 5 years left - (gen 45:6) It would be easy if it were 3 and a half years, as that could strongly relate to the last 7 years. Even so, it seems interesting.

    • @emartinie
      @emartinie Před 6 lety

12988Jake I agree with you. There definitely is something to that 2 years and 5 years. Perhaps partially a reference to the time being “cut short” for the elect. Also related is the 2 loaves and 5 fish, which I think is related to the wise/ unwise virgins parable, the 2 spies, 2 sons parables and more. Also, not only is Joseph a type of Messiah, but also a type of the house of Israel in the last days. AKA Ephraimites or sons of Joseph (ephraim and menasse). Deep subject for sure. Good job Mike.

So many parallels in Joseph. It's undeniable history playing out as prophesies.

  • @keyportbiblechurchkbc8194

I had never thought of it as a rescue mission, more as testing to see if they had changed. Benjamin was probably the new favored child, so would they give him up as they did Joseph? If they did, he could still keep Benjamin safe, but know if they had truly repented.

I know Joseph's brothers didn't murder him, but I couldn't help but connect him going out to the field to check on his brothers with Jesus' parable in Matthew 21:33-40, especially the segment where the father in the parable sends his son, which represents Jesus, and they say when they see him "this is the heir. Come, let us kill him and have his inheritance," I couldn't help but connect that to the situation with Joseph partly as well.

Joseph is one of my favorite Jesus Pictures in the OT! Mike, I love your insight about the Jews eventually accepting Yeshua as Messiah, because it is clear that Messiah is depicted here in context of Jesus. Did you notice the Ephesians 2:8-9 free gift happening with the grain during with the boys first visit? They thought they needed to earn it or pay for it, but it ended up being a free gift. In the second visit, Simeon is released when they brothers produce the son in Joseph's likeness. This hearkens to Galatians 1:16 and 4:19. Furthermore, Joseph's bones bore up in the midst of Israel making exodus is what Paul was seeing in 2 Corinthians 4:10-12. Remember, he is called YH-adds, Joseph, because Jacob and Rachel see the Eden-blessing of increase and abundance being in this one son. As afar as Jacob is concerned, Joseph is the true firstborn rejected of his brothers. When Israel came out of Egypt at the Exodus, God saw them all as one corporate son. Exodus 4:22 makes that clear. Israel came out as a many-membered son. Now we know where Paul developed the idea of the "called-out" as the body of Christ. Moreover, I said that Paul sees 2 Corinthians 4:10-12 in here too, because of the bones of YH-adds-increases bore within. It is the death of the One that is life to the many, yes the whole man. That is Galatians 2:20. So, when Israel exits the bloody doorway at Passover, then God sees the birth of a Son-nation as He said in Hosea 11:1. And yes, Hosea is another way of saying Yeshua / Jesus. The picture is then this: the True Seed of Genesis 3:15 is a "no-Adam". That is why Paul uses the nekrosis word. Jesus kept that body inherited from Mary dead to any Adam involvement, because He had YHVH as Father. The true Seed does not have Adam as father, but YHVH as Father, by which Jesus put to death -- nekrosis-ed - the old man as God heaped on Him all our sins (2 Corinthians 5:21). Jesus literally nullified it all in His flesh on the tree as Peter said. Now the way through the cross is open to God's Presence. It is His death working in us that means life to others. It is that Philippians 2:5-11 flow again.

Hi Mike!!! I found your ministry a few months back when a friend of mine recommended The Mirror “Bible” by Francois duToit and then started quoting Bill Johnson to back this “translation.” I tried reasoning with him from the scripture and also wanted a little more information on duToit and Johnson’s theology other than what I felt I knew. That’s when I found your video. Ultimately, my friend rejected everything I had to say, but your teaching was very helpful to me.
I’ve considered myself mostly Calvinist for several years now although I don’t attend a Reformed church. Most of the teaching I listen to online comes from Calvinist teachers because they seem to be the only ones who really teach in context and verse by verse. However, I must say you almost have me convinced that your take on it is the best one. Almost. 😉
But I really, really appreciate these particular studies on Jesus in the OT. I lead a ladies small group study, and all small groups in our church are studying through the OT beginning from Genesis 1:1 and our assignment is to always look for Jesus. So these have been SO helpful! Also enjoyed the Romans series immensely! So just wanted to say thanks for just being a regular guy and putting yourself out there. I’ve gotten a lot of clarity on a lot of passages from your ability to make complicated things easier to understand. And I love your kitties. #catsrule 🐱
(Side note: Bethel type folks love this “Bible” and it’s gaining traction in that arena. duToit teaches that Adam’s sin was believing a lie about himself and this marred the image of God in humanity. Jesus came to show us what humanity was always intended to be and that by looking at him we see who we really are- a really awful interpretation of 2 Corinthians 3:18. My friend also quoted Johnson as saying that all sin is the result of believing a lie about yourself. I pointed out to him that God said specifically to Adam that his sin was disobedience to His command and instead listening to the voice of his wife, and that Paul explicitly stated that Adam was not deceived but Eve was, but he wouldn’t hear me. Anyway, I watched the recent video of the podcast with Featherstone where y’all talked about “The Passion” translation and how it comes out of Bethel culture and was wondering if you’ve heard of this one. If so, I’d love if you’d address it sometime.)

I always thought he did that for two reasons. To bring his brothers to brokeness over their sin, and because he knew that would get his daddy to come over, because of Benjamin! To get Benjamin away from them may have been a rrason, too. Never tbought of it.
But yeah, he broke down....what a great restoration of their family! And many were saved.
I named my last son after Joseph. He had so many opportunities to be bitter and to hate, but he never did. He forgave and blessed his enemies! He had a powerful testimony. ✌️

Similarities of how Joseph is a “TYPE and SHADOW” of Jesus.
    1. Jacob (Isreal) loved Joseph more than all his other sons.
    Genesis 37:3.
Jesus is the beloved Son of God.
    Matthew 3:17. Colossians 1:13.
The sons of God are Angels.
    Genesis 6:2.
Adam and Eve are also sons of God because God also created them separately.
    2. Joseph’s brothers saw that their father loved him more. They hated Joseph and could not speak peacefully with him. Genesis 37:4
The high priests handed Jesus over because of envy. Mark 15:10.
They hated Jesus without a cause. John 15:25. The Jewish Nation are like “Jesus’s brothers.”
    3. When Joseph was still a boy he foretold a dream that his brothers would one day bow down to him because he had ruled over them. This angered them. Genesis 37:7.
Jesus foretold the high priest that he will be sitting on the right hand of God and he will be coming in the clouds, this angered them.
    Matthew 26:64.
    4. Joseph brothers said he was a dreamer. Genesis 37:19.
When Jesus’s friends saw him (they probably grew up together in Nazareth) they could not believe that he is the Messiah and said to him, “He is out of his mind.”
    Mark 3:21.
    5. Jacob sent his beloved son Joseph to look for his brothers and they rejected him. Genesis 37:12-18.
For God loved the World and sent his only son. John 3:16. Jesus was to do his Father’s will and he was rejected by his people. Hebrew 10:9.
    John 1:11.
    6. Joseph’s brothers conspire to kill him. Genesis 37:18.
The chief priests, scribes, elders assembled together on how to kill Jesus. Matthew 26:3-4. They shouted saying, Crucify him, crucify him. Luke 23:21.
    7. Joseph’s brothers stripped him of his coat. Genesis 37:23.
Jesus was stripped of his clothes by the Roman soldiers. Matthew 27:28.
    8. Joseph’s brothers casted him into a pit alone. Genesis 37:24.
Jesus was casted in the heart of the world for three days and three nights. This is the sign of Jonas.
    Matthew 12:40
    9. Joseph was sold for (twenty pieces) silver by his brothers to the Ishmaelite’s who are Gentiles. Judah was the one with the idea.
    Genesis 37:28. Genesis 37:26.
Jesus was sold for (thirty pieces) silver by one of his disciples Judas to the Priests. Matthew 26:15.
The Jews also handed Jesus over to Pontius Pilot who was a Roman and a Gentile. Mark 15:1.
    10. Joseph was taken to Egypt as a slave and sold to Potiphar as his servant. Genesis 39:1-2.
Jesus said,”but I am among you as he that serveth.” Luke 22:27.
Jesus took upon himself the form of a servant. Philippians 2:7.
    11. Joseph resisted temptation by Potiphar’s wife. Genesis 39:7-9.
Jesus was led in the Spirit into the wilderness and resisted Satan’s temptation. Matthew 4:1-11.
    12. Potiphar’s wife falsely accused Joseph. Joseph could have been killed. Genesis 39:17-18.
False witnesses were brought in before the chief priests, and elders, and all the council to accuse Jesus falsely and to put him to death. Matthew 26:59-61.
    13. Potiphar (Master) threw Joseph in prison and God was with him.
The keeper made Joseph in charge of the prison and found favor in him.
    Genesis 39:20-22.
    Jesus’s Spirit went to prison and preached unto the Spirits in prison;
    1 Peter 3:18-19.
God gave judgment unto the Son:
Jesus was in charge. John 5:22.
    14. Joseph foretold the future of Pharaohs dreams accurately. Genesis 41:13.
Jesus said,”Now I tell you before it come, that, when it is come to pass, ye may believe that I am he.”
John 13:19. For scriptures to be fulfilled. John 13:18.
    Matthew 5:17.
    15. Joseph became King of Egypt under Pharaoh. All POWER was given to him. Joseph was second in charge. Genesis 41:40.

God hath highly exalted YAHUSHA/ YaShUa/ Jesus and given him a name which is above every name: Philippians 2:9.
    17. After Joseph was released from prison he took a Gentile bride.
    Genesis 41:45.
    Jesus’s bride is “the Church.”
    Ephesians 5:25-27.
    18. All the people were ordered to bow down before Joseph in the land of Egypt. Genesis 41:43.
To the name of YAHUSHA/ YaShUa/ Jesus every knee will bow, in heaven, on earth, and things under the earth; Philippians 2:10
    19. Joseph’s brothers didn’t recognise him. Genesis 42:8.
The Jews were blinded and so were some of his disciples of who Jesus really was. 2 Corinthians 3:14.
    John 14:9.
    20. Joseph first sends out the Egyptians and servants.
    Genesis 45:1.
Then Joseph reveales himself to his brothers after their SECOND coming to Egypt. Genesis 45:3.
Jesus will first Rapture the Church out of this World and will reveal himself to the Jews who rejected him and to the World.
    Ephesians 5:24.
    1 Thessalonians 4:16-17.
Jesus will reveal himself as the Messiah in his SECOND coming to this World. Revelation 1:7.
    21. Joseph brothers were grieved and angry with themselves because of what they did to him.
    Genesis 45:5.
His brothers cried when they realise who he was.
    Genesis 45:13-15.
...and they shall look upon the one who they have pierced as one that mournerh for his only son. Zechariah 12:10.
The Jewish Nation are going to cry when they realise that the Messiah is YAHUSHA/ YaShUa/ Jesus. Revelation 1:7.
    22. Joseph told his brothers that God has made him lord of all Egypt.
    Genesis 45:8.
Jesus will have power, might, dominion not only of this world but also in that in which is to come:
Ephesians 1:21. Jesus will be the KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS. Revelation 19:6.
    Other possibilities:
a.) The dreams interpreted by Joseph of the Butler (wine = Spirit) and Baker (bread = Flesh) could also be as shadow of the last supper, death and resurrection of Jesus.
    Genesis 40:1-23.
    John 18-20. Luke 22:19-20.
The 3 days = death and resurrection. Jesus was alive in the Spirit (Butler gave cup to “King”). His body (Baker = bread) was dead for 3 days. 1 Peter 3:18.
The Butler lived and the Baker died. One of them offended the king by stealing = Two people were crucified with Jesus. One mocked Jesus and the other would be in paradise.
The vine with 3 branches = Jesus is that vine. Upon Jesus’s death, he made it possible for the 2 (Jew and Gentile) branches to be grafted into one. He was (crucified) in the middle. John 15:5
The three white baskets of bakemeats can represent Jesus body. His body was dead for 3 days.
1 Peter 3:18. Judas was also condemned and hanged himself when he realised he had “betrayed” the King. Matthew 27:3-5.
b.) I also believe that the reason why Joseph purposely placed a cup in Benjamin’s bag was (save his life) to prevent him from being hurt as he was. Eventually all left their homes in Canaan and started a new life in Egypt. This could be a “shadow” of the Old Testament New Testament. Moses (Egypt) and Jesus (Jews) are “the connection” here.
c.) The new name of Joseph, Zaphnath-paaneah also astonished me! Here are some meanings of this name:
    The God speaks and lives.
    God shall Add.
    Life more abundantly.
This could also be a shadow of Jesus.
If yOu have read this far.
I hope this will be a blessing to yOu.
    Praise ABBA Yahuah

Relistening to this series so I can put the notes in my journaling Bible, and I can't help but draw the connection between Joseph's "glorious" robe and Isaiah 61:10. "I will greatly rejoice in the Lord; my soul shall exult in my God, for he has clothed me with the garments of salvation; he has covered me with the ROBE OF RIGHTEOUSNESS as a bridegroom decks himself like a priest with a beautiful headdress, and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels." (Emphasis added.) It's not an obvious type, but as Jesus is the only one with righteousness of his own, that certainly makes his "robe" glorious in a way that ours, (the other brothers,) is not.

I believe it too!!! There is a revival!! Jesus will be reconciled to His Jewish brothers!!!! I’m praying for it. In Jacob Damkani’s book “why me” he has a conversation with a secular Jew named Joseph about Joseph’s story and its parallel to Jesus and his relationship with His brothers. I never saw it from that perspective before and I’m so glad you are also talking about it. I sometimes think is it possible? Is what Paul talks about in Romans possible? But then a virgin being pregnant and giving birth was impossible to our humans. All things are possible with God.

I thought a lot about your answer.... Jesus broke bread and wine at the last supper. The Baker betrayed him. The Baker can represent Judas Iscariot and JeSuS’s death. Butler his resurrection. The 3 days branches represents the 3 days that Jesus was dead in spirit and the Butler can represent his resurrection...🤔

    Christians...
We are living in the most solemn period of this world’s history. The destiny of earth’s teeming multitudes is about to be decided. Our own future well-being and also the salvation of other souls depend upon the course which we now pursue. We need to be guided by the Spirit of truth. Every follower of Christ should earnestly inquire: “Lord, what wilt Thou have me to do?” We need to humble ourselves before the Lord, with fasting and prayer, and to meditate much upon His word, especially upon the scenes of the judgment. We should now seek a deep and living experience in the things of God. We have not a moment to lose. Events of vital importance are taking place around us; we are on Satan’s enchanted ground. Sleep not, sentinels of God; the foe is lurking near, ready at any moment, should you become lax and drowsy, to spring upon you and make you his prey.
Those who endeavor to obey all the commandments of God will be opposed and derided. They can stand only in God. In order to endure the trial before them, they must understand the will of God as revealed in His word; they can honor Him only as they have a right conception of His character, government, and purposes, and act in accordance with them. None but those who have fortified the mind with the truths of the Bible will stand through the last great conflict. To every soul will come the searching test: Shall I obey God rather than men? The decisive hour is even now at hand. Are our feet planted on the rock of God’s immutable word? Are we prepared to stand firm in defense of the commandments of God and the faith of Jesus?
    KJV Revelation 14
12 Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus.
The warfare against God’s law, which was begun in heaven, will be continued until the end of time. Every person will be tested. Obedience or disobedience is the question to be decided by the whole world. All will be called to choose between the law of God and the laws of men. Here the dividing line will be drawn. There will be but two classes. Every character will be fully developed; and all will show whether they have chosen the side of loyalty or that of rebellion.

I love your teaching pastor Mike. I really think you are wise and blessed by God with wisdom and insight. But I think Joseph did what he did not to rescue Benjamin but to see if his brothers had truly repented from what they did to him and to see how they would respond to the life of Benjamin being threatened. Knowing what it would do to their father. Which could be another shadow type of Jesus.

While i find this interesting; I have to disagree that Jesus's tunic and robe weren't significant. The Roman soldiers 'cast lots' ( gambled) for His robe and tunic because they were exquisite of material and weave. The bible doesn't say how Jesus aquired the robe/tunic, but I speculate someone made it for Him out of great love and appreciation.

regarding the way Joseph replied to his brothers, I've heard a good commentary on it, that Joseph (didn't immediately reveal himself, and tested his brothers) primarily to see if they had changed. Recall, the last time he saw his brothers, they sold him (a member of their own family) into slavery and fabricated a whole story to fake his death. Benjamin (the last son of Rachel) wasn't with them, and so part of his question could be, where is Benjamin? Did my brothers try to kill/sell him into slavery too?
The whole test in keeping one of the brothers there, and later when he tells him to keep Benjamin in the land of Egypt, could also be seen as a test to see whether the brothers had changed, would they have been ok with it and 'faked' Benjamin's death too?
But they did change, because one of the brothers end up saying he was willing to take the place of Benjamin rather than return back to Israel without them (for it would 'kill' their father in sadness if Benjamin didn't return to him).

@1:00:12 where is this in the prophecy for Jesus' return? Where do we get the idea that Jesus is ever going to reverse John 8:24 and somehow plead again with Jews saying "see it's me?" This is a very serious issue laying the ground work for some expectation that Jesus is going to turn the anti-christ Jew to Jesus and I do not see ANYWHERE in the bible that Jesus provides for an additional opportunity to repent than the Jew already has.
Israel is God's people governed by the Shepherd from Bethlehem so Israel is _already_ saved by faith... BUT bc there is MUCH confusion between the "Jew" (who is governed by Netanyahu and "Israel" who is governed by Jesus Christ per Micah 5:2, Matt 2:6, Matt 15:22, 28) I have one serious question about "hope for the Jew" @59:29
where in the bible do we get the idea that "Jews" are going to be given additional revelation to recognize Jesus or that Jesus is coming back to somehow provide additional aid to the Jew so they will recognize Jesus _before_ He returns in judgment?
2 Peter 3 says Jesus' return ("Day of The Lord") will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.
Where is the time for the Jews to recognize Jesus is The Lord?

Sometimes I find we are a little bit to rough with Jacob it's not realy his fault when you think about it that he preferd Joseh: it was almost inevitable.
Joseh is the son of Rachel; the women he loved. he wanted to marry her ONLY but her father tricked him and forced him t marry Lea instead, but Jacob still wanted Rachel so now, because of their father, he was forced to have two wives. If this did not happen, Javob would not have had the other wives and all the other sons and would not have THIS child he loves more than the others, because he is the child of the women he loves.
When you take time to think about it I think we overestimate ourselves and underestimate the situation Jacob was in, what's weird in prefering the only women you actually did want to marry to the women that someone trick you into marrying her ? It's sad for Lea, but this was not Jacob's will either so it's a little unfair to make him look like the bad guy for me.
