Yeah, I attempted to play Elite Syncopations by Scott Joplin. this was about 3 yrs ago now so if your telling me how to play it better... well i haven't touched it since then...
It was fun to listen to; the different 'touch' you used for part of it was a nice refinement. Faster than I play it, but then, I generally like my ragtime slow. ;) (Fast or slow, it can be nice, but you can only play it one way at a time.)
glad to hear that. See Marlene? een the poster admit it was sloppy. I wasn't saying he have no skills, or that have more skills than him. I was just giving an advice. like multiple people did. The poster apparently listend to us, and I'm sure he now is a better pianist than he was, even if he was already pretty good.
Alright guys, it's only a bit of constuctive critisim. Whether she played this 'rag' too fast or not she played it well, especially for her age. Plus, I think it's more about what sounds better to the listener, there is no right or wrong really - it's not maths it's music! Very well played though Ly1212! I like it! and you're very talented; imagine what sort of stuff you'll be playing in years to come! p.s: I'm sure this video wasn't made for people to moan about who knows best!
I thought it was very good! Just need a little polishing. People that disliked it obviously have never tried to play ragtime piano. I know because I am slowly learning and it is not easy at all! Keep up the good work!
Ignore those who tell you this is too fast. Take from someone who studies this music and listens to authentic period recordings: It's not. It only sounds fast to people who are used to modern music and the Marvin Hamlisch / Joshua Rifkin records of the 1970s. You should keep the tempo steady, however (it is a march after all). Less pedal definitely would keep it driving, particularly in the D strain.
Interesting point. I guess on the ragtime circuit, everyone plays ragtime as was dictated by the piano rolls recordings of that era. This is not a criticism, but just an observation. I, personally appreciate all interpretations of ragtime, both slow and fast.
One suggestion would be to slow down a bit & work on accuracy. Pick one tempo and stick with it. A great inspiration for this piece is Richard Zimmerman's terrific recording of it. Once you hear that, you'll have the idea of what this should really sound like. You are obviously very talented, and could easily play this wonderfully with some minor changes in that way you're going at it. Keep up the good work!
I am impressed with your interpretation and your finger movement. You have copied the way Joplin plays.....that hesitant syncopation that draws the audience into the music..... Dont rush it! Play it like Joplin did!
First of all, this isn't a song. Second of all, chocotiger is an amateur -- a good amateur, granted. He plays cleanly, but straight and without verve. This is not dinner music; it's dance/march music -- particularly something early like Elite Syncopations, which demands a quicker tempo than a "classic" style rag. Listen to actual recordings from the ragtime era. I've studied this music for 20 years, and I can tell you that this is a perfectly fine tempo when performed accurately.
congratulations on the study of this "rag" music, but he/she IS rushing through the piece to get it done. This piece might not be a "dinner music" but it is supposed to be at least enjoyed by the people who like and enjoy rag music, and by people who don't too. Great performance kid! just (like everyone) a note on the tempo please, or at least enjoy what you play and don't rush it through! -just my opinion, didn't mean to insult.
well. not bad, but dont play it that fast... a rag isnt supposed to be played this fast... I think you would make less mistakes, your timing would be more accurate, and it would sound better overall. but you got potential.
You're a super duper perfect piano player!
whatever speed you play it at...anyway, playing it fast makes it even more jolly to listen to!:D

Don't let them bother you, kid. GREAT!
Amazing playing!!👍👋
glad to hear that.

Very nice, any chance you could hook me up with the sheet music?
I think at 12, you're allowed to make a few mistakes with a rag time tune! LOL. Great job regardless and thanks for posting it.
anyone have sheet music of this song please?
ya man

Dont rush it! Play it like Joplin did!

Sorry - I just guessed from previous comments :)
work on the few mistakes other than that really good!

way way way too fast, am i mistaken or does it actually say on the sheet music "not fast"
good attempt though, better than I could do

Too fast!! but good i wish i could play this

dude this is not a race... it sounds sloppy. play it at the regular speed, i'm sure it will sound good. but this way, its just bad...
Too fast... if you'd taken it a little slower then you would have made 50 less mistakes. 3/5
the reason u made mistakes, too fast. ragtime is meant to about half ur pace, if not even slower.
way too fast!
