One of those situations where it's better to be a few days early into the bunker than an hour late. I'm surprised no one had asthma and forgot their inhaler, or had to chase after a small dog that ran off at a critical moment.
Love how when they got to the bunker, literally THOUSANDS of monsters are swarming the side of the mountain, and Dad grabs a tire iron for protection lol.
Of all the apocalyptic movie scenerios this one is by far the easiest to survive and prepare for.
Make an underground bunker, with the only entrance inside a salted pool. Sure you'd get a bit wet but thats hardly an issue. Maybe have a solid steel entrance inside a grotto beneath a VERY salty pool.
The pool doesn't even need to be big or deep, not does the bunker need to be big. Its only for few hours. Heck, you'd have 15 years to prepare and i imagine bunker building would have exploded in popularity making it cheap to get something made.
Build a bunker in some salt flats? Hide out in a fish 'n' chip shop, cover yourself in Marmite. The options are extensive.
Safest Place for a bunker? THE GODDANG SALT MINE
It would be awful if in Day of Reckoning 2, they had stocked up on salt the past 15 years to defeat the monsters again only to find out that pepper is needed to kill them this time around.

I know this is only a movie but I am so annoyed NOBODY didn't think to fill pits with sea water and add extra salt. 15 years and lousy shelters were the best what was done 🤦♀️🤦♀️
It wasn't written into the story script
"as ordinary bullets don't harm it". They had 15 years time to produce bullets that plenty harm it.

The monsters are weak to salt and yet the military just ignores it. They could have just build salt based weapons, throwing salt into the monsters hiding place or just building a giant wall around the gate and fill it with salt.
15 years are more than enough time to make all of that happen
It is interesting, that in this movie a solar eclipse happens on the whole earth at the same time :-D
