Seeing a lot of “WHAT THE???” in the comments. I’m a chef and thought I could add some insight:
The Monte Cristo is a variant of a French “grilled ham and cheese”. People are freaking out about about the ingredients, so some framing would be helpful:
In cooking, these are complimentary flavors (much like complimentary colors in art). Sweet and savory are two flavor profiles that go together very well. In a Monte Cristo, you essentially have a French toast for bread, ham for saltiness, cheese for the savory (Swiss is normally used, but sharp cheddar is a great choice), and something sweet (most common is maple syrup, but jams work very well too). Often this sandwich is served with powdered sugar.
The way the Monte Cristo is presented in the United States is as a breakfast food...like a stuffed French toast. These flavors work perfectly together, there’s nothing “shocking” about the taste, and it’s a great Sunday breakfast. The way the video presented the sandwich is more in the traditional “bar food” way...a portable sandwich you can eat with your hands instead of a knife and fork (and was very well done btw!).
More examples of this type of flavor pallet: cheese and grapes, salt and pepper on fresh apples, lingonberry jam with meatballs, applesauce and pork chops, cheddar and baked apples...

Nope, the French similar sandwich is a Croque Monsieur and we do not put sweet anything with it, it's ham and cheese.

That is all COMPLETELY TRUE. DOES NOT detract from the fact that the swine had the audacity to cut the crusts off!

Read this for a little clarity!!!! :
    - sweet jam paired with ham & cheese is VERY common. this isn’t weird in the monte cristo sandwich.
    - yes it should be with swiss cheese, not american processed cheese, BUT good cheeses are very hard to come by and is very pricey in asia in general!!! sure it’s not /authentic/ but this is the korean twist on it. same idea how americans have their own version of a taco-same idea, but different ingredients, etc.

Anytime I go somewhere that has one, I try it. Not all are the same. I prefer the battered and deep-fried ones with swiss and the jam drizzled over at the end and not in my sandwich.

Let me answer some common comments:
    1. Foods change depending on the country. Putting jam in it could be their way of doing it. Dont judge the food before you try it.
    2. Yes its a lot of calories but its not something youre supposed to eat everyday either.
    3. If you think thats a lot of work to do then youre probably just lazy. This doesnt require a lot of effort or time.

Never tried strawberry jam in my Monte Cristos... And I am not sure I wanna risk ruining a perfectly good viable Monte Cristo for the sake of experimentation. It should work with American-style ham, tho. Less so with dry-cured hams like prosciutto or jamon.
