- On april 10th 491, just a day after the disparition of the Isaurian emperor Zeno, his widow, Ariadne, was given the task of choosing a new monarch. The next day, Anastasius, an old official in his early sixties, sat on his newly acquired throne. Six weeks later, the marriage between Ariadne and the new emperor took place.

Your videos are one of the most detailed, best animated, best narrated history series on the CZcams and yet, sadly your channel is also perhaps the most underrated of all history channels! Truly, more people need to watch this.

Such a magnificent detailed explanation of late Roman history, hence i don't know why your channel still underrated. Good work tbh, hope your channel grow bigger and better. I'll give my support to you
Late Roman isn't a thing. Rome would end in 1453.
Good video👍🏻need more!!😂
Ohhh yeah another history video.
I liked the intro music, it fit the feeling of a golden age of majesty, what is it called?
It's called Arrival by Edgar Hopp. You have the music credits in the description in the video
I am just interested where you acquired the information about the army commander Julian that died fighting against the Bulgars in 493. I can’t seem to find any info about this guy anywhere on the internet and I am just interested on who he was and how you know about him.
I got that information from Hugh Elton, The Roman Empire of Late Antiquity; 2016. I believe it does not give more informations. It is only said that a certain "Julian" died fighting the bulgars. He was perhaps Magister Militum of Thrace or Illyricum.
@@ancientsight Thanks for your help.
Better and better
Another question just occurred to me. The video mentions a man named Aristus who suffered major casualties fighting the Bulgars. I also would like to know where you acquired info about him, as I have not been successful in doing so. There was also the mention of a general named John who fought against the Isaurians. I’ve found two John’s that fought against the Isaurians: John the Scythian and John the Hunchback. I’d like to know which John the video mentions, if not a completely different John😅
You are in bad luck because that is the last video I made without safeguarding my research files. But here i what I can remember :
Aristus : Also a almost unknown commander mentionned only in name in the book "Hugh Elton, The Roman Empire of Late Antiquity; 2016"
Two John : Both John fought in the Isaurian war but the one I aimed to represent was John the Hunback. I think he was the senior commander over John the Scythian.
@@ancientsightI’m pretty sure John the Scythian was the one who inflicted the final defeat in 497, at least that’s what is says on Wikipedia😅 That’s why I am sort of confused on why you showed John the Hunchback rather than John the Scythian in 497 in your video.
4:19 He was just asking to be polite lol
👍👍👍
👍
I've heard it said that the isaurians are related to the hittites, is there any truth to this
That sounds definitely possible, especially knowing how they kept a somewhat independant spirit from the different empires they were subjugated by. Thus they most probably kept a distinctive genetic and cultural continuity. Still, it is the first time I hear about that, I cannot say
I have more subs than this channel... and that is extremely sad. This channel is WAY better.
Thanks man

Why does Maiorianus have thousands of subscribers while he profits of racially motivated lies, while you make honest and correct content? Not right! I wish you all the push you can get
I do not have an opinion on Maioranus since I have not watched much of his content, but you make me curious, I will watch it.
And thank you for the encouragement !
@@ancientsight understand you can't share a perspective. Stick at what you're doing. His agenda and lies will be exposed at some point. About 1/3rd of his video lengths are begging for money
What racial motivated lies did he use?
@@stevenfagbemi7449 he despises christians any notice any emperor that made a Christian mark gets trashed, even greats agree are incredible like Constantine and justinian. He also has a trend for hating on Greeks for no reason. The videos are full of fabrications, such as the Gothic identity and the state of the Western Empire
