When I was managing a theater, this movie was on constant rotation. The keys didn’t expire to the digital print until 2013. We watched this movie every week the keys expired myself and my friend Lynn would watch this every Wednesday just to have something to do. It was the best four years of my life. And I left this job in 2014.

I remember being in the theater for this movie. Was looking forward to it for sooo long! The movie started and as soon as the stripper zombies were running in slow motion an older couple (in their 60s at least) stood up and drug their grandkids out of the theater. Apparently they saw Woody Harrelson with zombies and thought it was going to be slapstick comedy.

I used to work at Wild Adventures. The ride the girls are on when they start seeing the zombies showing up is called Pharaoh’s Fury. The ride they get on in order to avoid the horde, labeled as the Blast-Off in the film is actually called the Double-Shot before it got renamed to the Firecracker and then Buzzby’s Blast-Off. The ride that Tallahassee hangs off of while shooting zombies is called The Aviator (which was behind where I used to work, the Dipping Dots booth before it got moved to a different spot). The ride Tallahassee gets on that he shoots zombies as he rides along that’s yellow is the Bug-Out. When the Hummer goes into the lagoon, you can see The Boomerang in the background. There is no Haunted House attraction that you see in the film (it was a façade they put up that blocked the path to one of the animal exhibits in the park and the interior that you see Columbus go through was filmed at another location), as was the shack with the switch to turn on the power to the park. The ride that Columbus runs through that takes out the zombies chasing him from the Haunted House is called The Roundup when I was there, and then got renamed to the Rattler. The park is currently owned by Dolly Parton’s amusement park chain and they have installed more trees throughout the park since I worked there back in the early 2000s. Also, a funny little detail: the girls enter the park through the front entrance, as does the boys when they arrive. However, after the boys pull into the park from the front, the next shot that has the girls looking at them pulling up, they’re coming from a different direction (from the direction of where the stage is for live performances).

As a Gen X, I kind of remember twinkies as much more of a treat than today's kids probably would think. Sweets just weren't as much a daily thing, at least in my neck of the woods. I can remember an 8 oz can of coke as being really special. Now that's a tiny serving. (Heck, just tonight I was with my niece and nephew and they both got 20 oz. cups of boba drinks as dessert) Personally when I was a kid, I loved fruit pies way more than twinkies, but there just weren't as many treats in general to choose from. Anyway that's why I think they were such a big deal to our generation.

It's also important to note: Twinkies have a short shelf life. They're famous in pop culture for being one of the few things that will be edible years after an apocalyptic scenario, enduring like the cockroach (which incidentally also has exaggerated survivability status).
The actual shelf life of a Twinkie? About a month and a half. Undoubtedly, they'll still be fine for a good deal longer than that, but you can expect the nutritionally deficient snack cake will be a lot less 'fresh' after just a few months, let alone a few years.

I was a huge fan of the Susie Q to the point that when announced I went and bought up all I could to freeze for later. When they returned I when and got them as soon as they hit the shelves. I ate one from the box and threw the rest out. The formulas were changed the ingredients were substandard. The textures was different. I've never eaten another hostess product since.

The likely reason you've never heard of it is because, at that time, Amazon had a "pilot season" where they had different pilots of different shows and let customers vote. The ones that didn't make it got ghosted almost immediately after the voting. Even as a paying Amazon streaming customer, I can't watch them again. 😔

He really wanted to be in the movie but he had other priorities, they still wanted to give him a shout-out which is why they included the joke about him being a zombie at the Hollywood Bowl. I always hate when they recast actors in sequels or TV spinoffs, as you said it would have been way better and I'd have adored a show if they either A.) got the original actors(not easy with movies stars going to TV, I know) or B.) had all new characters. Hell, each season could have been a new set of 4 people from different states and different personalities and I'd have totally been on board. But seeing it as the same 4 movie characters but different actors just killed it completely for me before it even started.

The attempt at a show on Amazon was part of a contest. There were several different pilots that dropped at the same time, four I believe. Each show was given the chance at a series based on fan approval.

Woody Harrelson is a Vegan and environmentalist, who had the film Kiss The Ground, about climate crisis and possible solutions to it. Maybe this explains the ban on food and environmentally sets, not a total solution to the problems but a start.

In the mid-late 90s, us Aussies tried to bring Twinkies to Australia but we branded them Twinkles ...once Aussies found out what they tasted like and had fake cream inside...they said 'yeah, nah' and it failed miserably.....we do have certain stores that import them into Australia but they are not widely eaten or known..

Just FYI, Zombieland was dropped as a TV series because the studio the filmmakers went to told them that a TV show about zombies would flop. A few years later The Walking Dead came out.

Couple things here... Woody was probably High AF and still wrapped up in his movie mindset, and actually did think it was a zombie. Minty you're probably dead on with that thought about the characters being re-cast being the reason for the hate. No one likes it when the studio changes familiar characters. It would have been fun as hell to watch a series of new characters take on Zombieland with some occasional cameos from the original movie crew.

I bet I know something about Zombieland you couldn't possibly know in a thousand lifetimes. I grew up near that theme park, and have some fond memories on the Doubleshot. That is the tower ride that goes up and down and Wichita uses a double barrel on. Geographically Wild Adventures is in Clyattville also.

  • @MarketingMovies1337

I did watch the pilot. It was good, I think people hated it due to it being a semi retread of the movie in terms of characters.
Also Amazon use to do this thing, where they would film 5 pilots of tv shows and the audiences get to choose which one they preferred. This was one of them.
Along with that I highly recommend the US remake pilot for Mad Dogs. It did not get picked up, assuming that the UK version die-hard voted it down.

I totally agree that the Zombieland TV show would have been better served if they moved on to another survivor group - to tie them together to the original a bit further, the show could have them be victims to the girls scams at the very start. If the show was successful, there could have been a crossover in the sequel movie including a call back to the scam.
