174 mph for a “400HP” car is still nothing to sneeze at! It’s absolutely stunning from all angles!
Even if it has not enough power.. it even gives me so much emotions through the prone. That’s worth everything
Except that when it comes to make an order, you really think twice if that s the best choice. I was about to pull the trigger on it and change my mind at the last moment for something else. I tried it too and it really feels under powered and like if the 400 HP were not there like what Lotus claims.

Fr, people only care about speed and numbers these days. I'd take a slow, emotive car over a fast mediocre one.
The toyota v6 is not a sports car engine, with supercharged you can go up to 450hp easy. more than enough

Lotus delivered what most true car people love: a stick, great sound, character and good looks. And it's a car designed with the UK landscape and curvy roads in mind not really Autobahn. Excellent video, thank you!
Not the fastest or most powerful, but it does have a lot of charm, with those looks and amazing sound
This car is an absolute beauty and looks like so much fun. Who cares that it cannot reach 290kph? You will never push it over 200 anyway. On top of everything, this car has a Toyota engine and transmission. This may be the first reliable Lotus ever made.
Man that looks FAST for only 270+ kph....The Emira is a great looking car , and with the old school supercharged v6 sound , wow! Good job Lotus.

Nice review. But for those thinking it lacks poke... that's only on a boring straight line. Take it on a tight and twisty mountain pass, driving it on the edge grip and on the redline with noting but trees lining the roadside, "not enough power" won't be the thought going your mind at any point, lol.
Fair review. The sound and looks are good enough for me. I'm sure with some tuning and more boost it could be even better.
I would buy it for the hydraulic steering alone. Nothing beats that for me
400 bhp in a 1300kg car is more than enough . Mr Max is spoiled with German hp turbo monsters. Turbo engines are more torqy but compressor charged engines have much more linear build up of the torque and hp. They may feel "underpowered" the boost is.much less pronounced but at the they are closest to the analoge feeling and that is what's about in a Lotus i guess.

To be fair, the reason the car has a low top speed is because of the aero, you can actually feel the car getting pushed to the ground at higher speeds.
Very good point. I wonder how fast it will go if the non cooling aero is blocked. But then it might take off 😮
Advertised top speed for the V6 is 290 kph. It ai t there, and mindnumbingly slow crawl trying!! They need to adjust their specs….lower.
Then it shouldn't be advertised as able to reach 290

I did not know that this car could sound like that, every video I've heard it's sounded good, but it almost sounds like a carbureted engine with itbs and a massive supercharged in this video, absolutely amazing

Actually the gaps on the front aren't for heat. They are aero. Air flows through the front grille and out over the front wings to push the front wheels down, and over the windscreen to push the centre of the car down

What a amazing sound
Certainly not the fastest car but it looks fantastic and sounds even better. If you really need more power the V6 is a good base to start with. But for B-roads its perfect.

It looks like something I'd like to own. The manual really surprised me.
That Toyota v6 is the 2GRFE. The weight is there because the 2GRFE is torquey. The engine can hold around 850-900hp without anything done to the engine internals. The best way to enjoy that car is doing pulls, it’s sounds very similar to the 2JZ, and even has a very similar HP & TQ curve to the 5.0L in the Lexus F line ups. It’s meant to be a GT and doing pulls to hear that engine. If you want to track then have to configure the oil baffling, and do some heat management and change somethings in the valve train. 4k rpm the power to starts to come on. Turbocharging the engine is the best way to use this engine( again characteristics of the 2J). To get around 450hp you’ll need about 8 psi of boost. 27lbs is around 850hp. You’ll need to add many things to make it a track engine. Buts it’s really just the heat that comes with a supercharger, turbo is better a lot better on that engine.
There is huge difference of this v6 sound and inline 6 2jz, just totally different 2 things
The limiting factor is the transmission and clutch. It won't handle much over 400hp. It's an Aisin transmission out of a small diesel truck.

My most favourite thing of the Emira... is the cover over the start button.
it's trick, it looks cool and make one think of fighter aircraft.,, and the excitement that pressing a button that has a safety cover on will be.

The problem is that for 400 hp the car is slow. A 991.1 Carrera s with 400 hp almost drives 300kmh But I love the Lotus😍

Out of all the journalist review, this guy was the biggest pessimist. I’m not saying he’s wrong or the video is bad, but just an observation. For me, I’d take this all day long over a Porsche. In my daily commute I see a Porsche every 5 minutes, old and new. I never see a car like this, a Lotus

this car is more toward agile, but tbh that engine still can push it fast, and the look of it still love it. but also thanks geely trusted the investment toward lotus to revive itself

Providing a start/stop button with an addtional protection from the occasional pressing is rather smart move, considering its unusual location. I've never seen it placed in this place before. Reminds me SAAB's ignition key location though ;))
Afair SAAB key also had protection.

If we applied the same discussion to a Dino 246 you would say the Dino looks great, handles well, but it`s underpowered. The Emira is a stunning vehicle to look at. It handles and drives well. That should be enough. Iv`e got both of these cars in my garage and love them both just they way they are.
Very good car tbh! My friend bought one and wird for word basically said he was disappointed in all those area's. He got a tune and uprated the suspension and made a night and day difference. I can't remember how much power he got but sure it was an extra 80bhp but the tuner really cleaned the graph up which made the car far more responsive and performance you'd expect from the car 👌 but yeah there are far better stock cars in this class i would choose first.

@@jareknowak8712 erm, very good question 🤔 I'd have to have a good think tbh. I prefer the older generation JDM but if money was no issue and had the money to choose I'd probably go Porsche. Not the greatest sounding engines apart from the NA GT but that's not in this class. How about you? What would you get with money being there?

I can't wait to take delivery of my Emira. This is the perfect every day sports car that has that super car appeal without the super car price tag. Seeing as it's a Lotus I'm going to assume it's going to be a great light track day car. If I'm planning on going 10/10ths at the track I'll always use my rx7 or porsche.
I ordered mine with the dark green paint, brown interior. But will be getting the wheels powder coated bronze and changing the calipers to match the body paint.
_Lots of fun and gets all the basics mostly right, inside and in the drivetrain. I still wonder about longterm reliability. Previously Lotus set their bar so low for poor ergonomics and reliability and cars that "just work", that when they finally make something that "just works" like it's supposed to, people are like: "Wow, it works!"._

By far the BEST, honest review of the Emira so far. I had the same impression about the engine when I tested drove it, about a car that looks like a hyper car!

Can’t wait for mine here in the USA. It keeps getting delayed due to “Emissions” according to Lotus… Dealers are not very forthcoming on a date either probably because they don’t know…latest I’ve heard was October from my Dealer but others are now saying early December 🤔. Time will tell…

I didn't know this was the final ICE Lotus. Certainly an end of an era. Lotus, despite our love here in the UK to point out their flaws, has been at the center of motorsport & racing with other brands like McLaren & Bentley and we love them. No doubt there's only more performance to come but without the Lotus supercharged V6s and their super fun I4s, it's going to be a different road for Lotus and I really hope they survive this.

I4 turbo may have cooling issue bcos of mid engine set up. Hence detuned to 360 hp.

Greate looking car! I once thought about to buy one and tryed alreday the Evora GT430.
Greate Sound (!!!) would be enought for a 600HP car, but finally the real driving performance did not satisfy me.
And the EMIRA even has 30HP less than the EVORA...
Should have at least 500HP in order to perform approximately as it sounds and it looks.
And - it's my guess - this could be the main backhold factor from people to buy it.

Sound wise a 9,5/10. Only cars like the LFA can top that.
But yeah, for a car that small with that kind of weight, it kind of is slower after 220 upwards than my X5 M50d....
Sure, two more gears and a lot more torque, but - according to paper - 19 HP less and basically a box (a beautiful one).
100-200kph is identical to a 310hp golf clubsport, and even the real topseed doesnt seem to be much quicker than the ~270 of the golf so yeah, there is definitely something missing from what lotus specs. my tip is they have an emisions problem with the engine and cant achieve the quoted figures, so the 2.0t comes to the rescue and the v6 will be dropped soon.
I’ve watched so many reviews of this car and everyone has the same opinion:
It has great steering feel.
Whilst the power isn’t huge, it’s enough to have fun.
The power delivery is instant and linear, being supercharged.
It has the most amazing brakes with incredible feel.
You didn’t mention the brakes, like everyone else does, and your opinion on the car differs from every other reviewer.
