I just installed my new Lowrance HDS Live 9 and connected it to my Smartcraft NMEA GPS interface. My harness was well marked leading me to connect the yellow Lowrance wire to the white Smartcraft wire (matching your connections) and the blue Lowrance wire to the blue Smartcraft wire instead of the bare ground Lowrance wire you connected. It's great that yours worked though you may lose some noise immunity. I think your connection is similar to the old RS-232 single-ended (non-differential) interfaces while connecting blue to blue makes it like an RS-422 connection using differential signals to help cancel out noise. Thanks for diving into the poorly documented world of Smartcraft interfaces!

I'm glad this was some kind of help for you. This was just a test, I'm doing a winter project to replace all electric in the boat and I'm not quite sure yet that I'll keep the speedo as it's actually quite useless without the ability to set the trolling mode by speed without the paddle sensor which is needed for slow speed instead of GPS, and my engine does not support it.

I appreciate your efforts. I'm from the U.S. so I can't use language as an excuse for finding this installation confusing. I would think there would be more information directly from Mercury or Lowrance considering how many SmartCraft and GPS systems exist in the world. I'll be hooking mine up soon and your video is a great starting point. Kiitos!
