  • Have you ever seen that cheap sound deadener on Ebay and wondered if it was crap or not? No? Well I did, so I bought some.

    Quick clarification - this "deadener" ended up working more as a heat shield than anything; I'm well aware of that. However, it is listed on Ebay as "the lightest sound deadener". So, since it's marketed as sound deadener, that's what I tested it as.

    I happen to be watching while wearing headphones and I definitely notice a difference before and after. For the cost, weight, and final effect, I’d say it’s much better than nothing! Thanks for continuing to post these builds, they are immensely enjoyable. 🔥

    That looks like a heat insulator, not a sound deadener. Sound deadeners use mass to absorb vibrations. That stuff obviously has no mass. But an air gap between two foil faces should be a fairly decent heatshield.

      @HatersGarage  Před 3 lety +4

      More or less, yes. I wasn't sure what material it was until it showed up. However it was advertised as "sound deadening". It worked about as well as I expected.

    Bubble foil insulation like this makes great firewall heat shielding. You can just sandwich it between the brake booster or anything else and the fire wall and not have to cut around it to fit.
    I've also used it a few times to make quick airboxes around cone filters

    • @HatersGarage
      @HatersGarage  Před 6 měsíci +2

      I like the airbox idea, I might steal that.

      @@HatersGarage I use aluminum foil duct tape to hold it together and sealed to the car. Been using 2 different versions in my rx7 for about 5k miles each with no issues

    While it probably did nothing about the absolute decibel level, open structure foams do a great job reducing higher frequency sound bounces-makes it much less harsh to our ears even if it’s the same total loudness.
    For the cost and weight, I’d say that’s pretty great.

    Honestly I just got a roll of felt to use at a crafts store. Works well and was pretty cheap

    • @HatersGarage
      @HatersGarage  Před 9 měsíci +2

      Honestly that would work better as deadener, doesn't shield heat too well though.

    You could put a layer of felt over that insulation and it will improve.

    Bro, your videos are really good. Your e30 content needs more attention. Keep it up. Could you do a rust repair video? I have a quarter panel to deal with.

      Thanks man. The body on my E30 is a complete pile; rust everywhere. I'll see if I can find somewhere interesting to fix.

      @@TheFlaimingCow Yeah, especially IX's. The reason mine is so bad is because someone put rubberized coating on it, which is the devil; It accelerates rust rather than preventing it.

    How much meters of sound deadening will I need for a E30 4 door? Also what thickness? 1.8mm is too thick?

    • @HatersGarage
      @HatersGarage  Před 7 měsíci +2

      1 year late, right on time. If you haven't done it yet I would just find some that's the best deal possible, if you have extra you can put it to use in the doors or roof.

  • @nchia
    @nchia Před 2 lety

    Not convinced this is the right stuff for the purpose. Better comparison would've been with deadening, and with carpet before deadening. Loved when the camera fell off tho, InstaLike!

    • @HatersGarage
      @HatersGarage  Před 2 lety +1

      Yeah, it's more of a heat shield than a deadener.

    Double the sound deadening material

      @HatersGarage  Před 3 lety

      True I could do that, but at that point it would make more sense to just get a more expensive material.
