    The Oris Aquis Upcycle is the reclaiming of garbage plastic discarded into our oceans and repurposing the trash for a new life inside of a fine swiss mechanical dive watch. Oris always likes to do good things for our planet, so this bold step is no surprise. A unique dial made from PET plastic but still a professional 300m diver! Screw down crown, sapphire crystal swiss diver.

    This looks like a perfect diver to wear in the summer time! Oris should have made this a closed case back (no need to see the red rotor movement on this one) with the recycled medallion to match the dial. Oris did this on the Clean Ocean variant and it looks amazing!

    Got finally rid of my old GMT, ready to never wear a sporty watch again. Then I saw the ORIS Upcycle and bought it immediately. It is very good luxury quality, (i dislike the phrase „entry luxury“. Either it it i luxury or not.) And it is a clear statement of sustainability. We have to protect our oceans and waters from microplastic. When other people see this watch on my wrist, it‘s a good opportunity to remind them that water is a precious good.

      True that. Also I like that people are wearing watches for 20+ years. Not like today, few watches per year.

    I have to confess to being an Aquis fan as I already have a cal 400 so I have zero issues with the case, bracelet but I have to say the bezel action whilst perfectly functional does sound and feel exactly that, compared to some you could say it's just a tad agricultural but works just fine. The dial on the upcycle being unique is tempting 'IF' I could find one that worked best for me so I'd have to take a look at one (or more) at the AD as I'm sure some will look better than others. I applaud Oris for supporting the ocean clean up and putting there money where the mouth is and producing this model. Price? Well for the design of the watch case, bracelet and the extra cost to produce that dial think it's OK as I have no issues with a service by anyone Sellita movement. A good fun video FT with the introduction. The other half says 'of course not' and you hear a yes.

    So if I was OCD, and I’m not saying I am, and let’s say I liked this watch, which I don’t. But what if you did
 would you need to see at least 15 or 20 of those dials to pick the one you liked the best ? Would you lay in bed at night wondering if you’d made the right choice ? Answer: Stick to your Clean Ocean.

    I like it. I kind of wish I could go to an AD and pick one out of a lineup. I don’t think it works like that though. Since they came out with the caliber 400 I really want one of these because now I feel like I am getting a deal. 😎 I still might like the lake Baikal a little more. I am not sure. I definitely feel like my watch collection is incomplete without an Oris. I complain about how many watch companies are like a re boot of the brand and not owned by the original people that made their great designs. Oris is as original as it gets. As watch enthusiasts we should be supporting them and hoping they always carry on their tradition. I like the colorful dial. No one can skip this watch because they already have 3 other divers that are the same color. 41.5 is the perfect size diver too.

      Regarding watch brands not being owned by the original people, Oris became part of the Swatch Group in the early 80s & then became independent again after a management buy out a few years later.

    • @Andrew.W75
      @Andrew.W75 Pƙed 2 lety +2

      @@LambentLizard I don't really know, I think it's because they don't have the brand 'prestige' or show off value they are looking for. Also they maybe viewed as too cheap, these people tend to be arrogant & if they've spent ÂŁ6k plus on a Rolex they don't like the idea of someone whose spent ÂŁ1,600 on an Oris Aquis being able to say they have a nice Swiss made watch!

    • @EscapementWatch
      @EscapementWatch  Pƙed 2 lety +3

      Probably started during the quartz crisis when Oris joined swatch group from 1970-1989. They stopped their in house movements in 81 and only used ETA. Once they became free from swatch and independent again it was a slow climb back and they finally have in house again with the 111 and now 400. Combine that with the fact that Oris doesn't hold its value too well lowers its snob/prestige appeal.
