These collabs are my new favorite videos. You guys are absolutely crushing it with these.
I think you both nailed it with the Topps wishlist. Specific relics and non-repeating photography. I also really hope they can get consistant on-card autos as well. My guess is they are going to put out at least 6 sets a year. They don’t wanna go too long without a new release. Like you said….they want to make money so they would want a new product at least every two months.
I completely agree about buying rookies a year later. It makes all the sense in the world for all the reasons you stated but it’s sooo hard to be that patient.
Lastly my votes for Trash, Sell, Hold….I’m trashing Jiri, selling Ronda, and holding the Izzy (That Izzy is beautiful).

Topps doing 6 releases a year would be pretty crazy, I don't know if UFC has the demand for that much product every year but we will see.

Another great collab convo guys, really enjoy these videos, keep it coming! Possible question for next vid: What makes for a modern day, elite fighter? What is the checklist? Would love to hear your thoughts guys.
What is important? What actually matters? The win/lose record, huge winning streaks, hype, title defenses, longevity in the sport, highlight finishes? The sport has never had so many fighters, period. So expectations now are extremely high and turnover is frequent, hence each year dozens of rookies that never make it. Some fighters get more attention because of their personality, flashiness or trash talk, others have amazing records but get no love.
We always guess and speculate 'who' we will be talking about in 10 years, but never why? Maybe we need some records to be broken, say someone who defends the Heavyweight strap 5 times? That would have probably been Francis Ngannou if he had of stayed.

It’s crazy how in Panini’s run with UFC the only set that does on cards isn’t highly sought after.
@@boxalarmtrading Much agreed. I do have much more faith in Topps than Panini but tbh wouldn't mind seeing Leaf or Upper Deck make a play either. Gonna be interesting.

For relic provenance, Panini had this in immac in a subset called fight night relics though it's not detailed. Obviously like you guys said previous Topps sets had this provenance for the mat relics (since only 1 mat per event, and easy to catalog it).
AFAIK the only detailed tracking for relics in any sports atm is via the MLB hologram/certification program. Topps does not really do this by themselves. I know you guys are simply throwing that idea out there, but I don't see Topps/ UFC doing that, as the cost to catalog/track/verify would be hectic. I do think Topps will see if they add debut patches as it's something they can control.
I also do hope they consolidate SKUs, but I think that'll come down to demand.
Like Damian said, we don't exactly know but the things I can think of that they are considering:
- decrease SKUs, increase # parallels/cards, keep price
- decrease SKUs, keep # parallels/cards, increase price
- increase SKUs, keep # parallels/cards, lower price
etc.
This is something the baseball collectors have been talking about for past 1-2 years post boom. Where the number of SKUs from Topps is way too many + the amount of parallels, however they've kept price somewhat not as exorbitant (Topps update hobby box w/ chance of pulling debut patch cards is only $140)
Hey mate thanks for the input. I didn't initially think of the cost associated with the verification of specific relics as you pointed out. But i do believe Fanatics/Topps want to show initiative and even though it might be expensive for them to create could you imagine in return the hype they could create in product releases with crazy specific relics that every person andf their pet would want to pull. That in itself would boost product sales and surely well cover the cost of the authentication process? I dunno we will see! You made some great points. Thanks mate
@@ufccardtalk Personally I hope they put out detail information for the relics, as just like you I'm a big fan of that. But I'm keeping the expectations low. Mainly since it's been some what proven that IF a set has a following/brand/legacy in the hobby, the majority of the card buyers do not care if the relic is associated or not (National Treasures in bball and football).

Great video! I hope that topps uses more multi colored canvas relics. It seems like all the cards in the 2021 and 2022 immaculate canvas sets are just grey sections.
Great suggestion, the single color patches are super boring. That would really spice it up a little bit.

Rookies? Most UFC rookies have been in MMA for 5 years
Hi NewMMACollector. A UFC Rookie Card is the first time a fighter is printed. It doesn’t denote their first year like other sports.
@@boxalarmtrading well aware. It should be UFC debut, not rookie. Isn't it a bit ridiculous that Michael Chandler fought professionally in Bellator 10+ years, won 3 titles, and is still has a rookie card at age 37?

Gilbert Burns being another funny example of a Vet that had tons of fights in the UFC and got a rookie card in 2021.
I think it’s just a mainstream designation so that everyone in the collecting world will know it’s their first year of cards if they’re tagged as RC.
